Sadly, these two white girls are likely to breed soon and often, and their spawn are likely to be even less intelligent than they are.

..

How fortunate Sarasvati is to come from a culture that prizes education. And clearly her parents raised her with respect, or she'd have either laughed out loud or punched these two ignorant christards in their pieholes.

Laurie Higgins of the Illinois Family Institute Sends an Open Letter to the Friendly Atheist - Repost of my comment on Hemant's blog:

This makes my blood boil. Who the hell does this woman think she is? Christian busybodies injecting their views into educational settings BY COMPLAINING about things their small minds find “offensive” is a reprehensible tactic that’s proven effective more often than not.

The reason the so-called “New Atheist” movement is an absolute necessity (like yesterday), is because these fundamentalist crybabies like Laurie Higgins have enjoyed 30 years of empire-building in the media, accomodation, appeasement and outright, illegal government endorsement allowing them to manipulate public policy in their favor. They insist on their First Amendment rights while seeking to restrain everyone else’s. They’re out of control and it’s long past time to remind them of their place. In church and homeschooling, if they’re so determined to raise generations of Jesus-bots devoid of intellectual curiosity.

With the sorry state of affairs in American education – in large part due to the dumbing down of our curriculum in order to not piss off Christians – I’m thrilled to have good teachers out there, and what they say or do outside the classroom is none of my concern.

These bullshit “Family” organizations are an obstacle to our kids’ education and a threat to the First Amendment liberties of every citizen. I consider this attack upon the Friendly Atheist (a teacher, no less!) yet another call to arms for all the rest of us, from closeted to militant. Ladies and gentlemen get those arms in (ergonomically correct typing) position and fire at will. No quarter given.

"Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must approve the homage of reason rather than of blind-folded fear. Do not be frightened from this inquiry by any fear of its consequences.... If it end in a belief that there is no god, you will find incitements to virtue in the comfort and pleasantness you feel in its exercise and in the love of others it will procure for you."

Tell me again how indoctrinating children doesn't work! Considering the fact that it's been 35 years since I last attended CCD (and I wasn't all that studious all along), this is pretty goddamned amazing. My older bro, Tom would be very pleased his atheist sister is still so Catholic! LOL

Oh my GOD!!! Heidi's become "enlightened" - she's found both Jesus AND Alex Jones!

With each day that passes, I have less and less tolerance for the intellectually challenged. Some people are just too fucking stupid to live!

A far more eloquent explanation than my rants, of the need for MORE participation in this so-called "Culture War" by people of reason AND faith. Extremists are the problem, and it's long past time we stopped pretending we have none of our own. Read some history if nothing else!

(Repost of my comment on AASHOM's blog, "The God Strategy: The Religious Right in America". Check out the videos of the interview with David Domke.)

Great interview... I must get this book!

This "Strategy" is precisely my beef, because I've watched it happen while most people I know have remained blissfully ignorant and worse still, fell right in line with the increasing god-talk in politics and the media.

Looky here - an ad from 1981:

(The full-size should be legible)

That ad was in a magazine I helped put out when I was 19.

When I was 29, I worked as an assistant to a stockbroker who had James Dobson & FOF as a client. Jim was kind enough to put Skippy the Broker on his mailing list, so the heathen w/IBD and First Amendment activist leanings became intimately acquainted with Focus on the Family's mission during many and extended shithouse visits. And saw how very profitable it was to sell salvation to Americans in the 1990s. Burnt-out yuppies in need of a replacement for their drug habits, a "new life in Christ" that allowed them to act as though their previous "sinful life" had never even happened. Allows them to claim a superiority and righteousness they hardly deserve, but they feel their due since being washed in the blood of Jesus. Poor white trash flocking to a church amongst their own "kind," not one full of immigrant papists, where they're told that if they pray hard enough and tithe enough, they too can share in the glory of the Lord in the form of earthly abundance and wealth. It disgusted me.

I'm 47 now, and here we are. It's worse than it's ever been, even though anyone with half a brain and one eye can see how religion has been used to manipulate and dumb down the populace. So fuck YES, it's time for people to stand up and tell these religious people to get the fuck out of our political process, and the government to stay the fuck out of the business of religion. There is no "happy medium" outside of clear separation and absolute neutrality. That was my position as a Christian in 1981, a pagan in 1991 and it remains my position as an atheist now.

My moral and philosophical issues with what the American Evangelical movement has done to define Christianity are an entirely separate argument, but one I'm equally as passionate about. My views have cost me more than one relationship over the years, but in the end it's worth it if at some time, somehow, someone learned even ONE thing from me that helped them make their life better in some way. Knowledge is power.

It's my duty as an American to participate in the governing of my country, and I've chosen to throw in my lot with those who know that the First Amendment is what makes us truly free and fight to defend it against all enemies. Those who use God to divide "one nation indivisible" violate the principles of Liberty and we have a duty to shine a bright light on their misdeeds.

[Well shit, now I may as well copy this over to my own blog, too!]

Some people think I've spent 30 years "overreacting" to the fundification of my beloved country by those who'd see us become a theocracy. The video in this article makes it VERY clear why I'll never stop opposing having these kind of "Christians" in positions of political power. BE VERY AFRAID!!!

Politics, Pagans, and "Christian Martyrs" (read the article, which includes this video)

...I could probably quit working!

Unapologetically (pun intended) swiped from the comments on That Damn Atheist!'s blog, "Most Christians on the R&P Boards Are An Insult to Intelligence":

Please use this list to point out the complete lack of originality, or the predictability of Christians in conversations and debates.

The Pathos or "I pity you, Fool!" group

These statements basically say that the Christian is a superior person who must have pity on all of the poor, lowly unbelievers.

[1] "I'll pray for you."
[2] "Jesus Loves You"
[3] "God Loves You"
[4] "I feel sorry for you."
[5] "Atheists suffer from a mental illness that makes them unable to detect God/Spiritual things."
[6] "Jesus still loves you!"

The "atheism = religion/faith" group

These all boil down to saying that not believing in a religion is the same as believing in one.

[7] "You have to believe in SOMETHING!"
[8] "Everyone worships SOMETHING!"
[9] "It takes a lot more faith to believe in Evolution than it does to believe in God."
[10] "It takes a lot more faith to ignore the evidence of God than it does to believe in him."
[11] "I only wish that my faith in God was as strong as your faith in Atheism/Evolution."
[12] "You may think your happy, but you can only know TRUE HAPPINESS through Jesus Christ."

The "You're stupid, I'm smart, so stop wasting my time..." group

In these clichés, the Christian tells you that you're either blind, stupid, ignorant, or willingly deceiving yourself, despite how much better your argument is than theirs.

[13] "You have already made up your mind, and it's a waste of time to try to convince you."
[14] "You have chosen to be blind to the TRUTH!"
[15] "You have closed your heart off to the TRUTH!"
[16] "You have obviously been deceived by the devil."
[17] "I found Jesus. Why can't you?"
[18] "The fool sayeth in his heart that there is no God!"
[19] "You're obviously running away from God!"
[20] "You're obviously hiding from the truth!"
[21] "Though you say you don't believe, deep down inside, you know there is a God!"

The "God's obvious to me, What's your problem?" group

This group assumes that all nonbelievers have a mental block, or cannot see what it obvious to the believer.

[22] "If there is no God, how do you explain the world we live in?"
[23] "What happened in your life that made you hate God?"
[24] "Of course the Bible sounds like foolishness! Without faith in God, you cannot understand his wisdom!"
[25] "Even though you don't believe it, Jesus/God Loves you!"
[26] "Even though you don't believe it, Jesus/God is REAL!"

The "Your life has no meaning" group

These statements tell the nonbeliever that their life is worthless, pointless, meaningless, or otherwise not worth anything, unless they accept JESUS

[27] "Well, those people were not TRUE Christians..."
[28] "A universe without God is a universe without Hope!"
[29] "Without a God, life is meaningless."
[30] "Christianity is not just the best answer. It is the only answer."
[31] "You have devoted your life to something NEGATIVE (non-Christianity), rather than something POSITIVE (Christianity, of course)."

The "Just you wait..." group

These all basically say that you'll eventually be a believer, when you're old enough, smart enough, have a revelation, etc., etc., etc...

[32] "One day, you will know what THE TRUTH is!
[33] "Some day, God will call you."
[34] "One day you will call to God for help."
[35] "If you simply have faith in him, you will see that God is real."
[36] "I was once like you, a foolish, young, unbeliever..."

The "Threats of Hellfire" group

These are all empty, pointless threats that even if you can win the debate, you're going to go to hell, so fuck you.

[37] "The day will come when you realize the lord is your only salvation."
[38] "It's too bad that you're going to Hell."
[39] "One day you will have to answer to Jesus Christ Himself, and then it wont be so funny when he throws your unrepentant soul into HELL."
[40] "You had better get right with God now before it's too late."
[41] "Hope you have an asbestos suit, cause you're going to HELL."
[42] "Hope you enjoy your special place in HELL."
[43] "One day, when you're burning in Hell, you'll remember this conversation, and that I warned you!"

More lying for Jesus as anti-choicers plan to protest at Planned Parenthood clinics this Saturday, to tell everyone how "the Pill kills." Maybe so... but not nearly as many people as religion kills, nor in as violent a manner with such certainty of righteousness and God's okie-doke.

A crazy right-wing fundamentalist took it upon himself to mete out God's Justice and murdered Dr. George Tiller for providing LEGAL medical services to women. You cannot convince me that the rise of public religiosity, increasingly aggressive proselytization and political influence of fundagelicals has nothing to do with it.

People give me shit for painting all Christians as being whackjobs. I know they're not. There are more Reverend Nicks out there than James Dobsons, but if they're unwilling to speak out against their most insane brethren in as public and aggressive a manner as the extremists, they're a big part of the problem. What would Jesus do? The story says He took the fundamentalists of His day to task for their false piety. He called them "whitewashed sepulchres" and denounced them! Time for the sane ones to act.

Here's a good article that makes the point better than I can

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/6/2/726327/-Christian-Responsibility

Snippets:

If you are a practicing Christian, it is your responsibility to confront what passes for Fundamentalist belief in America in the past few decades and call out the un-Christian beliefs and actions of this brutal, repressive, sexist and murderous segment of the church.

Let's be honest about it: 'good' Christians, liberal Christians, kind hearted Christians are afraid to confront the ugly, hate filled churches that have taken over this nation.  However, fear of these churches, their leaders and their congregations does not absolve 'authentic' Christians from their responsibility to stand up.

As a former Christian, I do not have the spiritual authority to speak to other Christians and talk them down from their aggression.  This is the responsibility of fellow Christians, no matter what their denomination.

Get real.  I have talked to wonderful pastor who felt that this hateful strain of 'christianist' ideology had ruined the church in America, but he was clearly frightened of confronting it directly. I know that fear has driven good people into silence.

I am not advocating religious war.  I am advocating standing up in the public sphere, in the media, in politics and addressing the hatred.  At the very least: stand up and define your Christianity in a public way.  At the very least: go on talk shows and decry the intrusion of fundamentalist religion in the political sphere. Do this in an organized way.  Anything less is unethical.  Anything less is un-Christian.  Christ put himself between the moralists and stoned woman, so should enlightened Christians put themselves between christianists and the rest of us. Only enlightened Christians can do this. Stop worrying about attacks from atheists and agnostics, here and elsewhere, and start worrying and addressing the christianists.  It is your responsibility.  No one else has the moral authority to do so.

(emphasis in original)

Please, Christians... rise up against those who would define God for everyone by force of law. You rally against peaceful Muslims who fail to disavow the fundamentalist sects of Islam who justify violence and terrorism using the tenets of Islam, yet you stand silently by while another generation of Jesus' Jihadists are conscripted into God's Army with every intention of bringing about Armageddon because they see evil in human progress.

Catalyst posted an excellent blog, The Tower of Babel, with a list of links helpful in learning about the differences between various Christian denominations.

There are approximately 38,000 Christian denominations in the world.
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (2006)

Every one of them thinks theirs is the "one true religion," but at least 37,999 and possibly ALL of them are the wrong one. The only way to know is to keep digging, right?

New Jersey [May 20, 2009 11:36:45 AM]

Governor Sarah Palin must beat Barack Obama in 2012 because of her superior conservative right wing philosophy in that she is pro God and Christianity, pro life, pro marriage; pro guns-second amendment, pro low taxes, pro low government spending; pro small government, pro unintrusive government, pro traditional and Judeo Christian values; pro Bible reading and prayer in our public schools, pro Christians schools and private education , pro private and free enterprise; pro military spending, anti arms agreements with Russia, pro creation; pro nuclear, pro conservative supreme court judges, pro American sovereignty; pro capitalism, anti communist, anti socialist; conservative on immigration, and pro constitution. Barack Obama are of the inferior liberal and left wing ideology in that he is against every thing that Governor Sarah Palin is for and he is for every thing that Governor Sarah Palin is against. From 01/20/13 to 01/20/21 Governor Sarah Palin will be the greatest President we will have ever had Thank You, John Warren

On any of the blogs/boards I normally haunt, I'd swear this was a "Poe" - but it's NOT. It's on FoxNews.com for fuck's sake! Those people are serious. Wow. Just Wow.
