So, there is another contest. Round 1 (judges picked top 20 from all entries) is completed and we've moved into Round 2 (a voting round).

Here is the jist of it all...

In Charlotte, NC there is a regular summer concert known as Speed Street. This contest will determine a band to open for a major headlining act. Not, I don't know the specifics of this particular contest yet...if it is just one single vote per person or one vote daily per person. We'll be passing along that info when we get it.

But, what we do know, is that beginning at 5pm on March 11, you can go to www.1065.com and use the keyword: Miller. That will take you to a contest page. Right now the direct link is http://1065.com/pages/eventsales.html. But, that could end up changing. We'll keep you posted.

We also don't know how long this goes on for. I'm guessing only a couple weeks at most, since Round 3 is a series of shows, Battle of the Bands, if you will. And, since those shows begin in April, that makes me think they won't have this voting round going for too long. ;-)

Anyway, if you want to help out this go around, swing by www.1065.com tonight at 5pm and enter the keyword: Miller. We should be listed, along with 19 other bands, with the song Hero there for your vote.

Thanks everyone!
Lee and the TFers.

yes!  we're gonna do that SADD benefit thing in kannapolis on sat, feb 28!  we were there last year and it was a king-sized show!  if you're gonna be in the area, c'mon out and see us and our good friends the stellas!  it'll be an outing to remember.  plus, we promise we'll be nice and not take those sexy pictures in your shower anymore.  unless, of course, you want us to.  so whatever.

on the recording front, we spent a great deal of time on both sat and sun laying down the substrate material for the last three songs we'll be doing for the new record (which is going to be 7 songs total, so it'll be an EP).  perkins got his drums down and i (jdub) put the boom-boom on those rockers.  wait - that sounds gross.  i actually just played the bass.  we've got the final arrangements of the new tunes down (thanks, joe!) so it's just a hop, skip and a jump to lay everything else down.  speaking of arrangements, we've got this slow jam, memory, and joe really spiced it up on the outro section.  not to give everything away, but we're rocking it up a bit - a la cream - and it's gonna sound just fine.

what's really cool about this process is that it's a lot more of a team effort.  on the last jam, perkins and i left all the executive mix-decisions to joe and lee to figure out.  on this one, we're all putting in our $.02 and it's prolly gonna make the effort that much better.  at least, we hope so.  only time will tell.

anywho, as chief of staff i can give you every reassurance that we've done everything in our power to secure the white house.

first off, a serious thank you to all the fine folks that came out to the double door on weds to see us toss off a few songs.  we've done the crowntown showdown twice, now, and that was probably the better of the two performances.  thanks are definitely in order, as well, for the organizers - e.s. guthrie, zack mcbee, etc - for running the festivities.

right now we're settling down to making the new record.  we've got 4 songs tracked already, and we think the tunes are the mutt's nuts...we can't wait to get 'em finished so we can let you folks hear how far we've come.  i think 'pleasant surprise' might be an adequate representation of how folks will feel upon listening.  we're all definitely psyched.  but as zappa said, tho, "writing about music is like dancing about architecture."  just wait (out in june?).  it'll be worth it.  also - we're not gonna stop doing shows during the recording process - so c'mon out and give a live listen to the new stuff!

esoterica:  we've added angelina cuneo on keyboards, and she'll be represented on the new record, as well.  she's the girl.

So, here we go, entering a note into the Blogosphere (I have to admit....I don't even know what that means.....an atmosphere full of blogs? Does the forecast call for a 30 percent chance of Blog? Do airports close when the Blog gets too thick?)

Okay....I got so sidetracked there I forgot what I was saying. Oh....that's right....keyboards.

Well, we've added the guitar player piece to the puzzle in the form of Neil Hunter. Come on out to a show and meet the new chap....he really is one of the nicest guys you could possibly meet.....and wicked good with that guitar thing.

But what we need now....to complete this whole Transmission Fields thing....is a keyboard player. Someone who can tap out some melodies on the synth....play some organ.....a little piano.....all while adding some vocal harmonies to the mix.

Is this you? Know someone who plays and is looking to find a gig and play some shows?

Toss us an email.

(Why do I feel like I should now say "And for only 19.95, we'll toss in a free t-shirt and a midget to bring you your beer!")

Tah Tah, and viddy well, my brothers, my sisters!

So....we made a run at the Lollapalooza thing. It was some exciting stuff and a ton of people came along to give us a hand. And now...we have another contest that we just entered. This time it is for playing at Austin City Limits with Foo Fighters.

I know the other one just ended less than 2 weeks ago...but we could really use some more help trying to move along in this one as well.

The contest is set up exactly the same. Round 1 will go until August 22 and will weed out the top 100 bands. You can vote everyday just like that time. The top 100 will move onto Round 2 where another group of celebrities/experts will pick the top 20.

Here is the link you can bookmark and head to each day:

Transmission Fields-Words, Numbers and Phonetic Sounds. This Charlotte, NC band has an engaging sound that comes in somewhere between indie pop and power pop, and the opening track "While I Sleep" is a perfect example of the best of both styles - just try getting that "I belieeeeve it all" chorus out of your head. Other standouts include the kinetic "Hero", which suggests a more conventional Guided by Voices with a longer attention span; the languid "Days of Waiting", and the near-Americana of "Run". A promising debut and with 8 tracks, a bargain at $5.

Contest Details

The first stage of the contest is underway...which is a voting phase. We are trying to round up as many votes as we can get before June 22 11:59pm. You can head over to TransmissionFields.com and it will take you to our voting page. You can vote once a day from any emails that you might have. Transmission Fields
Words, Numbers, and Phonetic Sounds
4 out of 4 stars

The debut 8-song album by Charlotte foursome Transmission Fields aptly introduces itself with a memorable melody and strikingly poetic lyrics. It remains consistent throughout. Balancing whimsy and aching, the group's hummable pop-rock hooks recall classic R.E.M. or '90s alternative pop such as Matthew Sweet. "Hero," on the other hand, veers towards Superchunk-style indie-rock. "Days of Waiting" builds a beachy-bluesy intro into a melancholy rock chorus reminiscent of Verses.

Neitzel's voice glides easily into his upper register while flanked by nicely understated harmonies. The band maintains its own sound throughout, yet "Words" is laced with shades of Americana due to Neitzel's slightly twangy phrasing (especially on "Run") and the warmth of dreamy shoegazer pop.

Transmission Fields plays 8pm Friday at the Milestone Club with Hi Ho, Shooter! and Ben Henry.
