WE HAVE A WINNER FOLKS!

Yes, at one minute till midnight the winner of the JIMMY THACKERY AND THE DRIVERS Give-Away was randomly selected using a cutting edge scientific process (I stuck my hand in a fish bowl and pulled out the name) and the big winner was alerted.

ANGELA HAYES < COME ON DOWWWNN! We appreciate all of the folks that signed up and while the rest of you didn"t win this time, we will be having other fun contests and give-aways in the near future so keep signing up and joining in on the fun.

We will be shipping Angela's prize winnins' today and hope all the friends who entered the contest have a great holiday.

I'm busy today going through the mixes from our live recording project from CALLAHAN'S in DETROIT.
Peter Jaye, our audio engineer has done a superb job of recording and we are on track time-wise for an early Spring release of the audio AND video of that extra special night.

Thanks to you folks out there, THE DRVERS and I agreed that this has been the best year yet for us and we thank you all for coming to the shows, buying our stu

Hi folks!,

We made it back home (briefly) from our giant circle around, across over and the through the big ol' USA! Quite the journey to say the least.

The boys and I want to say how much we appreciate seeing all of you attending our shows and signing up for our new E-mail list and contest give-away. We had so much fun traveling and playing for you all and the culmination of the trip resulted in a succesfull capturing of a live CD. and DVD recording in Motor City.

Big thank you's must go to Mike Moss at Callahans for enabling this rather ambitious endeavor, along with the wonderful camera crew (5 or 6, I lost count!) Crawdaddy Dave, Alan Grossman, and above all Peter Jaye our audio engineer extraordinare! Seems like a dream it went by so quickly.

We will now begin to take all the footage and audio info and put together the very best release we have ever done. To say that we are excited about this project would be a gross understatement. We are thrilled that we were able to capture what I believe to be one our best performances on the whole tour in front of the best crowd we have had since the last Detroit live recording 15 years ago.

Ah, but we aren't done yet. We will be doing one more short trip before the Christmas Holiday down through North Carolina where we will be doing another live radio recording on WNCW, then on to Louisville and into Ohio that will result in a show with Sean Carney and others for a benefiet for a cancer cure, followed by a masterclass with your's truly and then a commemerative recording.
Quite a year!

Wanna say hi to all the old friends we saw and thanks to all the new friends we made out there and we WILL keep you all updated on the progress of the new live project.

Keep signing up because, as the song goes, ya gotta play to win!

Oh yeah , Special thanks to our old pal, Thayrone for doing such a masterful job as M.C.

That's all for now, except HAPPY THANKSGIVING and pass the peace, please!

OK Folks! Big announcement time!

On November the 19th The Drivers and I will be recording a new live project at Callahan's Music Hall in Detroit. We will be also be taping a dvd simultaneously.

And just to be thorough, we will also be filming a documentary of sorts about the recording itself and all the behind the scenes stuff that goes into putting this kind of project together.

This will be a momentous occasion for us because 15 years ago ,we recorded our "Wild Night Out" C.D. at Sully"s in Dearborn almost to the day. Our M.C. will be our old friend, radio personality, and self proclaimed "Rodeo Clown with a Microphone" , the ever popular Thayrone!

We hope you all will enjoy this rather ambitious endeavor and we invite everyone to be part of the festivities. Please call Callahan's for ticket info and make your reservations now.Space is limited so sooner is better.

We will be making a commemorative T shirt and some other goodies so you all will be able to take home a cool souvenier of the event.

Here's hoping you can make the date and be part of the gig .

We are very excited to have a cool new place to play in THE MOTOR CITY and extremely proud that the folks at Callahans are helping us put this together.

Tell your friends ! See ya in Auburn Hills (Detroit) on the 19th of Nov.

We found ourseves in a bit of a conundrum over the last weekend ... We ran straight into the Nor'easter in New Jersey. We were slated to play on the outdoor stage on the beach in Somers Point which after torrential rains and 45 mph winds was under water!

Fortunately, Carmen, our promoter had the cool idea to move us to the American Legion hall where we played for a capacity crowd (although somewhat smaller than the 900 folks that would have been outside)

Thanks to all our friends who ferretted out the info and showed up at the alternate location, and to the fine folks at the Legion hall who made us feel right at home!

And thank you, Carmen!

Then it was up early the next morning for the 500 mile drive to Niagara Falls for the second annual Niagara Blues Fest. Wow! What a crowd! Try as I might, I couldn't see where the crowd ended it was such a great turnout.

Last year it poured down rain and it was STILL a good group, it was just hard to see their faces because the all had trash bags on their heads.

This year, the weather was perfect and the folks were out in force. Our benevelant host, Toby had formally renamed the Drivers ,"THE DEVASTATORS" and put it on all the posters and shirts. What a hoot!

Shared the bill with THE NIGHTHAWKS and they were as good as ever and we had a great time hanging out again.

Good to see all of you and keep checkin' this site because we have a big announcement coming in a little while that we will need your help with!

Just have to get a few more ducks in a ro

Every now and then, ya just find yourself in that perfect situation where the venue is extraordinary, the weather is perfect, the crowd is with you, and the planets just line up right. Our show in Lancaster, PA was one of those "just right" experiences.

The Long's Park Summer Music series was one of those gigs we dream about . The production was excellent, lighting perfect, and the promoters couldn't have been nicer!
It's part of what makes us keep on keepin' on.

The night before, we had another good time in Bethlehem PA. The review (see below) speaks for itself.

Here's hoping the folks in the Lehigh Valley area keep supporting the place because it was one of the best new venues we have had the pleasure of playing.

Rock on everyone and we hope to see you in Somers Point and Niagara Falls!

JIMMY THACKERY electrifies at 2nd Story Blues

By Dave Howell Special to The Morning Call

Thank God the lights came back on!

It looked like a power outage in Southside Bethlehem might cancel the Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers concert at 2nd Story Blues. Luckily the electricity came back on, and the band instantly began its 3-hour show.
If the band could have been hooked up to the power supply, it could have provided enough energy to light up the whole city.
2nd Story blues is noisy, as blues clubs tend to be. But when Thackery played, there was little movement or talking. His effortless guitar work mesmerized the audience of about 150 with nearly every style of American music.
Thackery is known as a bluesman, but blues was only a small part of his varied show. He included country, surf, swing, rock and roll, jazz, Tex-Mex, rock, and even a piece that could have been the theme to a spaghetti Western film.
There is no doubt these guys enjoy themselves. Mark "Bumpy Rhodes" Bumgarner was constantly in motion on bass, pointing to the sky or otherwise reacting to the music. Russ Wilson took more vocals than Thackery, standing out with his soaring take on the ballad "Please Accept My Love". The pleasantly hammy Wilson took a long drum solo in the second set, leaving his seat to play the front of the bass drum and the mike stand, and then moved into the crowd to rapidly tap on glasses, tables, and anything else with reach, even standing on a chair to use the steel rafters for percussion.
The first set was largely dedicated to a wide variety of lengthy instrumentals. Thackery took time to make these tunes dramatic with a variety of understated guitar effects, and changing the dynamics and speed of his fretwork. There was just a bit of singing on "It's My Own Fault," which featured his lightning blues riffs.
The second set had more vocals, featuring songs Thackery wrote from his latest CD, "Inside Tracks". There were also Chuck Berry songs and a tribute to Jimi Hendrix with "The Star Spangled Banner" and "Red House" that even included a bit of feedback.

Thackery has been in the Lehigh Valley often, but this was the first time in many years. Hopefully he'll be back soon.

Dear folks,
We're back from the last run and we all agreed that it was one of our most enjoyable tours in a long time. Starting in D.C. at The Birchmere with xtra drummer/percussionist George Sheppard along with L'il Ed and the guys, quite the extravaganza! Check out the 'tubes' on this one. Really brought back some memories for me concerning Ed's uncle, J.B. Hutto, the first bluesman I ever played with back about 1970. Uncanny!

Then up to The Turning Point in New York and a fun show. Bill Murry showed up just as the last piece of gear was loaded into the truck and asked "IS IT OVER?" ... Yep! So we talked about Mexican food for a minute and off he went.

On to Detroit and my fav new place, "Callahans" where I recieved a lifetime achievement award from the Detroit Blues Society and saw ALMOST all my old friends and had a great jam with JIM McCarty. We also had a "Band Outing" to The Henry Ford Museum which really helped us remember what made our country great. And a trip to Wayne Road Beach for a spectacular party with old friends.

On to Colorado where we camped for a few days at THE BOULDER OUTLOOK HOTEL and I had the honor of sitting in with Zack Harmen et al. A stone groove to be sure.

Next was the first MILE HIGH BLUES Fest which was a big success for all involved. Very well attended and well run by John and Gina.

Then to our favorite gig of all, the annual THACKERY THANG in Clark, Co. Man, we wait ALL YEAR for this one! It has been more or less a private affair in the past, but they let in the public this time and, WOW! What a great day. The weather was what good childhoods were made of, perfect!

John Alex Mason opened the festivities with some major delta rythms and notes I've never heard on his cigar box guitar, then we asked him to sit in for a few tunes. Man! He's right, we gotta record some of this stuff. Thanks to ALL the Larrys and RoseLynn and Jeff for the hospitality.

Then on to The Natural State Of Arkansas and a gig with my best bud and FAVORITE guitar slinger, EARL CATE. Man, it just don't get no better than this, folks.

Finally, the end of the tour party was held at the grand opening of THE ROCKIN' PIG right here in good ol' Eureka Springs,Ar ... Great turn out and good chow! Even my exterminator and his wife rode the bikes to this one and we really threw down for all my neighbors.

Thanks to Bumpy Rhodes and KING ROLLO GIGANTE for makin' this one a tour to remember and thanks to the friends and fans for coming out and supporting live music. Can't do it without you ,folks!

Oh! yeah, a special thanks to Thayrone for havin' me on his talk radio show, you can hear a clip from it on this site.

I invite you all to check out photos and clips here, and submit your own cool stuff too!
Thanks, one and all and look out Pennsylvania, we are booked and bound to go ...
Pray to the PURPLE NOTE!

Greetings everyone!

We just returned from the last tour and what a tour it was! The Drivers motored up to Providence, dropped the Tour-sled at the airport and flew to Kalamazoo for a fantastic show at the festival there. Our biggest treat was gettin' to play alongside the ever-mesmerizing Reba Russell and her fine band. She did a beautiful job singing some backups with Rollo and just made the whole night magic!

Then it was cuttin' it close flying back to Rhode Island for a huge time at CHAN'S in Woonsocket. We love that place - and the folks that come out to see us there.

Then off to Rockland, Maine for The North Atlantic Blues Festival. Been aspiring to play that great event for some time on the recomendation of Tab Benoit and finally had the pleasure. It was all he proclaimed and more. I ran into my old friend "Jingles" there who I had not seen in 39 years! Great to see ya. Let's do a show in Provincetown sometime for old times sake.

Then it was off to Mont Tremblant, Qubec for the International Blues Fest. Wow! ,what a cool place and a great event. We had the great fortune to jam a bit on the set with my old friend Joe Louis Walker and pushed the sky up about another mile. The space shuttle will have a little further to travel now. Caught some of Watermellon Slim's show and some of Mavis Staples. Talk about inspiring! You can find some photos taken by our friend Ted Bibbo on my new website: www.jimmythackery.com

Now its off to my old home town of D.C. at the Birchmere and a rip-snorter with L'il Ed and a special treat in the appearence of George Sheppard on drums and percussion. (Don't worry, Rollo's gonna play drums too! Call it, "Drum and Drummerer".

Then off to New York at the Turning Point, Detroit , Colorado for the first Mile High Blues Festival in Denver; Our favorite gig of the year in Clark, CO then back east to Arkansas for a show in Fayetteville with my favorite guitar man, Earl Cate and a rare appearence in Eureka Springs.

Thanks to all the friends and fans who came out and made this tour xtra special for us and let's get our boogie shoes on for this trip coming up.
AWWRIGHT!
