Well, this is the technical explanation:

...the Brompton narcotic mixture — a well-known British oral narcotic preparation of diamorphine, cocaine, gin, sugar syrup and chlorpromazine syrup — is an effective method for the control of severe pain. The mixture is used when milder narcotic and non-narcotic preparations prove ineffective; yet in spite of its potent analgesic effects, it is still useful when a longer survival period is anticipated. With careful monitoring of the patient's needs and adjustment of dosage, the mixture may be used for many months and even several years without dose escalation. In a study of the effects of the Brompton mixture ... the cheerful and friendly environment of a palliative-care unit apparently harmonized with the pain-killing effects of the narcotic medication to provide optimal pain relief.

In other words, it's an addictive, highly potent mixture that keeps you and everyone around you happy until you die. This is what the band, Brompton's Cocktail, was going for: Music That Keeps You Happy Until You Die.

Members of Brompton's Cocktail went on to play in The Monster Project, a rock septet that performs Godzilla and other monster movie music themes, and The Invincible Doctor Psyclops Invasion, a cinematic spy-rock outfit. You should totally check them out.

Our condolences on your loss.
