If there are any of you who aren’t familiar with For The Wait, just give them some more time because they are coming for you! The band barely finished releasing their debut album “Separation” and is once again recording a new EP titled “On The Cutting Room Floor”. Guitarist Michael Fitzmorris sat down with me to give our readers some insight on the band’s new album among many other exciting happenings for the band.

Would you please introduce yourself and tell everyone why we should listen to For The Wait.

Michael Fitzmorris: My name is Michael Fitzmorris and I play guitar in the New Orleans based progressive, rock band For The Wait. Were a new band that takes a different and creative approach to song writing. When you buy a For The Wait record, youre buying into a full musical experience that revolves around abstract thought that doesnt adhere or conform to modern genres of music.

How has the band been doing since the release of “Separation”? Any big changes or crazed fan stories lol?

Michael Fitzmorris: The band has evolved and progressed rather quickly in the past year on many levels, especially live. After the release of "Separation", our focus was to bring the record to life. We didnt want to just "play the songs in a set." We wanted people to connect to the songs with us. Thats why our concept is such a strong backbone. Our passion and belief in our subject matter carries over into our live performance. Musically, weve discovered our sound. People arent going to believe were the same band when they hear our follow up to "Separation."

No crazed fan stories but we have made incredible friends that gave us a place to sleep and food to eat. We are especially grateful to the fans in Madison and Green Bay Wisconsin. Thank you!

It looks like you have been steadily gaining new fans every week based on the increase in plays on your Myspace page alone. How have you continued to spread the word about For The Wait?

Michael Fitzmorris: We believe in a grass roots approach. We connect with fans on the stage and off the stage. Weve become personal friends with a lot of fans. Thats special for us and its why we call our fans The FTW Family. Also, I think our music grabs you a little bit at a time. Theres a "big picture" with us and you can only piece it together over a period of time. So fans get more and more interested in us every time they hear us. They anticipate the next step with us.

The band recently got done recording some new music in Cleveland, what can we expect to hear from the band in terms of new music? When can we hear some new music?

Michael Fitzmorris: "Separation," wasnt a stepping stone for us, but rather a focus in a different direction. "On The Cutting Room Floor," is the real sound of For The Wait. Its intensely melodic and mathematical yet showcases a strong ambient side as well. Another big change for the listeners will be the guitar solos.

Rome did an amazing job and really took the record to another level. This is also the first of many concept records we will be doing. The music revolves around a short story created by our lyricists/vocalist Richard White. So this record is full circle for us. Its everything we want to be. We wish we could release today! Thats how excited we are about it, but most likely it wont be released until the beginning of next year.

It seems pretty early to be recording new music so soon after the release of “Separation”. What made you guys get back into action so soon?

Michael Fitzmorris: "Progression is not the result of spontaneous combustion. You must first set yourself on fire". We are a very focused group that loves to create music together so writing is a big part of our everyday routine. Plus, we like to capture certain moments and intuitions. That relates to what I stated earlier about connecting our passion for this band through the music to the audience. Once we started writing around the concept for the story we didnt want to stop.

I would like to know how the band signed with HM/Live Marketing. Were you looking at other options or was this something that just seemed to fit well with the band?

Michael Fitzmorris: It was just the perfect fit. We met them through Don Debiase(our producer) while recording the new record at Chin Studios. They understand us as artists and businessmen and we connected right away. We are very excited about working with them.

New things just seem to keep happening with the band. Can you elaborate on some things that we should be on the lookout from For The Wait in the near future?

Michael Fitzmorris: You can expect music that matters and progression from record to record. I think bands are playing number games with record labels right now just so they can possibly get a deal. Once the Myspace formula doesnt work anymore, who will be left standing? In my opinion, only the bands that strive to make important music that will have an affect on the listeners life.

I am definitely looking forward to the new EP “On The Cutting Room Floor” that will hopefully come out sooner than later. Do you have any final words for our readers?

Michael Fitzmorris: The first ten people that email us through our Myspace page and say that they read this article will get a free copy of "Separation" personally mailed to them. Thanks to everyone who supports independent music.

Our new Road Ready custom cabinet cases are in, and we couldn't be more impressed. Our live-in cases for our Mills Acoustics Afterburners are made to with stand the rigors of the road and also made to cut our loading times in half. We had a string of dates in Wisconsin recently, with temperatures in the negatives. We couldn't have made it without our cases! The weather had no affect on our gear at all. Along with being made tough, nothing says professional like showing up to the venue with these cabinet cases. You have to look serious in order to be serious. Also, the custom shop was there with us every step of the way. The customer service is the best in the business. From the day we ordered them until we received them, we were treated as artists not like clients. There's not many companies that will develop a working relationship with you, but Road Ready is an exception. We recommend Road Ready cases, whether it's for rack gear, equipment trunks, or custom cabinet cases to any serious musician looking to make an impact with their carreer.
