Well, after a thoroughly enjoyable show in Los Angeles and a profound journey through the west coast of America, up to the tranquil and spiritual terrain of Oregon, I am back in New York and it's a magnificent day here in Brooklyn! I was enjoying some of my favorite music while changing my environment around and this classic sketch sprung to mind. I dialed it up and nearly fell off my chair laughing, so I thought I would just share it.

It often dawns on me that laughter is one of the many wonderful aspects of life to be cherished and protected in such ominous times and sometimes a joke explains the crux of our complications so very well.

Here's a classic from Monty Python;

Fionn O lochlainn's satirically titled debut 'Spawn of the Beast' was reviewed by Time Out New York last week. Major kudos to Time Out:

We've heard few recent debuts as bold and provocative as Fionn Ó Lochlainn's Spawn of the Beast. Not only does he demonstrate a knack for observant songwriting, but he's an impressive guitarist and musters a vocal range that stretches from dry witticisms to power-crooning worthy of Jeff Buckley. The biggest surprises come in a drone-based cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" (complete with rustic uilleann pipes) and two transformed Frank Zappa tunes, "I Am the Slime" and "Dumb All Over." Elsewhere, Ó Lochlainn cuts to the bone with the stark "Blues for America." (Time Out New York)

Current mood:  busy
UK songwriter Fionn O Lochlainn has been invited to perform and participate in panel discussion with progressive Historian Howard Zinn at Cooper Union on February 20th. The event will be hosted by the non-profit and nonpolitical humanitarian organization Emergency USA, established to provide care to civilian victims of war.

Zinn, author of "A People's History of the United States" and " You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train: A Personal History of Our Times" will speak on the subject of 'just' war and take part in a panel discussion with Fionn O Lochlainn immediately following the main event.

Spawn of the Beast' - O Lochlainn's debut album - will be released to online shops during Fionn's showcase at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, TX, in March.

FO: "I am honored to be supporting Howard Zinn at an event of this nature. Howard is not afraid to speak out honestly with an optimism that generates tangible solutions. His independent perspective provides an inspiring alternative to the insidious drone of the mainstream media."

Fionn's music has been coined by Jon Sobel of Blogcritics as "a big rock-influenced sound and an equally substantial artistic statement using only traditional, acoustic intruments and keening crystalline vocals."

Mark Sutton, NPR Producer writes: "When Fionn played "Waterside" live in the studio for our radio show, he left everyone in the room breathless. His voice is incredibly pure and always soulful. An amazing performer, songwriter and recording artist."

The event on February 20 will be held in the historic Great Hall of the Cooper Union (East 7th St. at 3rd Ave., Manhattan). Musician Fionn O Lochlainn will open with a musical performance to be followed by a poetry reading by Michael Lally from his book, March 18, 2003: A Poem for Peace. The brilliant and powerful photographic images taken by Moises Saman will be on display throughout the evening. Howard Zinn will deliver the keynote address on the subject of a "just" war. Following Zinn's presentation, the speakers will join in a panel discussion followed by a conversation with the audience. Dr. Richard Keeling, a member of the Board of Directors of Emergency USA whose work links health and education, will serve as moderator for the event. A book signing will conclude the evening. CHARTA, an international publishing company that has become a growing voice of humanitarian concern, is co-sponsor of the event.
