What’s good!
This week has been an interesting and star-studded one. Apart from
being on my grind and knocking a few new tracks out in the studio
together with Ears and Babak, Thursday through Saturday consisted of
shows. On Thursday Adam, DJ Rooftop, Babak and I drove down to Lund,
Sweden to open up for Dead Prez. I’ve been feeling their music for a
good minute, but Adam has been a diehard fan for years so I could only
imagine the anticipation building up inside him (no homo).
Stick.man and M-1 were both really humble, down to earth type of
people that took their time to talk to us both at sound check as well
as after the show back at the hotel. It really struck me as amazing and
admirable, given the fact that they have been around for a very long
time but didn’t seem to have lost even an ounce of humbleness. The
highlight of the event for me was when Adam introduced me to M-1 at
sound check and one of the dudes behind songs such as Hip Hop and
Animal in Man tells me; “oh you’re Eboi you killed that dope boy track
man”. if that isn’t recognition, I don’t know what is. We got some good
footage from our show as well as kicking it at the hotel with the
humble cats and I would imagine there will be some of it posted on www.mybestfriendismygrind.com shortly.
In the early hours of Friday morning, without getting any rest, we
began our 6 hour drive back up to Arlanda Airport to catch our flight
to Jyväskylä, Finland. The venue was incredibly fresh and the design of
the place was really high scale and up-to-date. We were opening up for
Brick & Lace. There was another opening act, his name is ***’** who
was a Cuban born reggaeton /hip hop artist living in Finland. We all
really got along well and just like we did, he killed his show. Finnish
people seem to let go of their inhibitions when they attend concerts
and they are really not afraid to put their hands up, sing along and
shake their asses off to our up-tempo shows.
Next day we got in a van and drove a few ours east to Joensuu,
Finland, where the same setup as the night before was in effect.
Different from the night before, however, was the fact that we had
already performed at the venue and knew the place well. We pulled off a
successful show there in October and we were really looking forward to
raise the bar once again. The club was packed (I want to say beyond
capacity but that would be a form of snitching so when I think about it
all I know is that it must’ve been sold out) and once again, the
Finnish people showed us what they are all about.
This weekend’s touring and performance has taken its toll on me, but
Monday morning the game just rewinds! And oh, I have to get a new
computer! I missed out on some valuable hours traveling because my
battery is blocking my grind. I will have to dig into the oven to see
how many loafs of bread I have at my disposal.
Until next time, stay up and on
