This month, "Sanctus" made it all the way to the semifinals in the OurStage's electronic category. Each month, we select different songs for different categories to test the waters and see where we stand. Before this, "Dies Irae" was the best finisher falling somewhere in the 40's. But something happened this month and the tides turned in our favor. SEVENTH place sounds like a great start for us.
If you'd like to have some fun, judging up and coming music, check out www.ourstage.com. Maybe we'll see you there. Peace!

The Informati - Requiem Produced by Steve Catazone and the Informati | Mixed by Jeff Yurek and Mastered by Mark Donahue at Sound Mirror in Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA.
"Requiem is an impressive album - all of The Informati's songs here, save one, are in Latin. Yes, Latin, the dead language high schoolers hate. At first thought and listen Inman's vocals are reminiscent of Gregorian chants reminiscent of an Enya record, though the disc's production truly brings the ancient art form back into modern times. The Informati are a duo of by T.S Ryan on guitars and J. Mark Inman ..boards and vocals, and although they employ a few others to round out the bass (Ben Foley) and drums (Michael Thomas, Brad Caetano).
With electronic beats, spacey guitars and minor chords a plenty, Requiem has just enough cool to be tapped for a Lexus commercial. Although that might be short changing the Informati, the record finds and fits the electronic, Goth chill out niche; if there is one.
Songs like "Dies Irae," and "Sanctus" are about exploring a deep stone basement in a long forgotten castle, only to find Ryan and Inman conducting rituals within. It's nice and creepy.
Requiem is a nice slice of minor melodies for those out there that still listen to The Cocteau Twins, who also like a bit of darkness with their music. (Inman Records)"

This CD is difficult to summarize and describe...and it definitely took some time to sink in here at the babysue office suites. The Informati is the duo of TS Ryan (guitars) and J. Mark Inman (keyboards and vocals). Together, the two create slow, atmospheric compositions that lack commercial appeal but have a great deal of artistic merit. Requiem features ten tracks that are slow and methodical...somewhat eerie and angelic...and at some points sounding like Gregorian monk chats with subtle electronics flowing in the background. These guys' peculiar cerebral drone is an acquired taste to be certain...but ultimately inviting and soothing. In some ways these guys' music sounds like a very slow and determined Cocteau Twins playing inside a very large church. The more we spin this one...the better it sounds. Cool mentally absorbing cuts include "Introitus," "Rex Tremendae," "Sanctus," and "Lux Aeterna." (Rating: 5)

"Requiem doesn't claim to be a film soundtrack, but I'd bet money some of the music from this album will wind up in some psychological thriller in the near future. Using a combination of programmed electronic beats, pianos, guitars, and dubby basslines, the Cambridge, Massachusetts duo has crafted a gorgeously haunting, suspenseful album. An added bonus: these guys sing the entire thing in Latin, so there are moments when it's easy to imagine walking up and down the gigantic hallways of some baroque cathedral." - Jennifer Marston

Though we were hoping to get our Requiem to everyone this fall, we have now decided to push back the release until January 1st, 2008. Realizing the potential of this record, we thought it only eloquent to be one of the first records released in the new year.
In the meantime, we'll be preparing for our proposed winter tour and working on new arrangements. There's talk of bringing back Mark's orinigal, 70 bpm Introitus and Tim is reworking their "Lux Aeterna" against Gorecki's 3rd Symphony. We've also found a local DJ crazy enough to work with us, so I'm sure there'll be more to post soon.
Peace.
