MAXIMUM VENUS: In a celestial coincidence of eye-catching proportions, Venus (the "morning star") reaches maximum brightness on Sept. 23rd, the autumnal equinox. In short, northern fall is beginning with a bright light in the dawn sky. Venus is actually bright enough to see in broad daylight, but easier to find just before sunrise. Wake up early any morning in the week ahead and look east for the brilliant light of Venus.

Bonus: Like the Moon, Venus has phases, and at the moment the planet has assumed the form of a slender crescent. If you have a backyard telescope, take a look!

AURORA SEASON BEGINS: For reasons not fully understood, the weeks around the autumnal equinox produce, on average, more geomagnetic storms than any other time of year. Even the mildest solar wind stream brushing against Earth can ignite auroras. Earth is inside a high-speed solar wind stream this weekend and another is due on Sept. 27th or 28th. High latitude sky watchers should be alert for Northern Lights. (Tip: Local midnight is often the best time to watch.)

Say "NO" to "Drive-Thru Mastectomies" !!!

Hi all my friends

Please, please take the time to sign this petition. Not only will it help the women it affects physically and emotionally but also their families who are often in just as much, though different trauma. Let's take back our health care………and not let insurance companies continue to practice medicine with out a license. Please follow the link and sign the petition.

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast.

I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in
the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies.
So there I sat with my patients, giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn't grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet "Thank You" they muttered.

A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to
remove cancerous breast cells/tissue.
If you know anyone who has had a Mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards.
Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an
outpatient procedure.
Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important .. Please take the time and do it really quick!

If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require Insurance Companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the 'drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on.

Watch this NOW ....Perseid Meteor Shower.... Nature’s Fireworks !!!!

Hi all........been a while since I posted but this is a dandy that just had to get out there...........

There's hardly a moon this year (gratis the new moon) !!! so this fabulous annual summer meteor spectacular could be a real beaut because of the extra dark night ......... so don't waste another moment.......all you skygazers go check it out now!!

The Perseid Meteor Shower will be dazzling if you get out there and catch it streaking across the sky........you can spy it from late Sunday to the wee hours of Monday morning, peaking just around sunrise.

The estimate from those in the know is that at it's peak you could see as many as 60 meteors per hour .Provided you're lucky enough to be far from city lights.......but even if you are close to the artificial glow on the horizon......you've got nothing to loose except a little time..........grab a lounge chair, your favorite friend (or not) and enjoy the night air and sky!
I'll be seeing you ............you can see it from any direction in the sky but don't forget to check out Mars in the northeastern sky.........you may get a gander of that too if you'r lucky !!

Ancient Celts : Druids, the priestly/professional/diplomatic corps in Celtic countries, celebrated Alban Heruin ("Light of the Shore"). It was midway between the spring Equinox (Alban Eiler; "Light of the Earth") and the fall Equinox (Alban Elfed; "Light of the Water"). "This midsummer festival celebrates the apex of Light, sometimes symbolized in the crowning of the Oak King, God of the waxing year. At his crowning, the Oak King falls to his darker aspect, the Holly King, God of the waning year..." 13 The days following Alban Heruin form the waning part of the year because the days become shorter. The winter solstice, observed on December 21, was the shortest day of the year. The name 'Arthuan' is interesting in relation to Arthurian legend, as King Arthur was believed to have been born on the Winter Solstice in Castle Tintagel in Cornwall. Alban Arthuan ("The Light of Arthur"), also was referred to as Yule, Mabon, Jul, Saturnalia, or Christmas. This feast took place on December 21 and marked the longest, darkest night of the year. Alban Arthuan was a festival of peace and a celebration of waxing solar light. Many honored the forthcoming Sun child by burning an oaken Yule log, and honored the Goddess in her many Mother aspects. The Father God was also honored in various forms: as Santa Claus, the Old Sky God, Father Time, and the Holly King.

The first day of spring, or the spring (Vernal) equinox was celebrated March 21. Alban Eiler, which means, "Light of the Earth," was the day that night and day stood equal. Crops were typically sown at this time. The equinoxes and solstices were seen, to the Celts, as a time of transition. This rare balance in nature made these days a powerful time for magic to the ancient Druids. Alban Elued (also 'Alban Elved' or 'Alban Elfed'), "The Light of the Water," the first day of Autumn, was also called Harvesthome. Observed on September 21, the Autumnal Equinox was the day when the sun again began to wane, as the dark half of the year drew near. The summer solstice, or Alban Heruin, was the longest day of the year. Observed on the 21st of June, it was the time when the Sun reached its zenith and cast three rays to light the world. Alban Heruin, or "The Light of the Shore," is also referred to as Litha or Midsummer's Day. It was traditionally celebrated out in the forest with picnics, games, and a large bonfire.

Ancient Gaul: The Midsummer celebration was called Feast of Epona, named after a mare goddess who personified fertility, sovereignty and agriculture. She was portrayed as a woman riding a mare.

Ancient Germanic, Slav and Celtic tribes in Europe: Ancient Pagans celebrated Midsummer with bonfires. ''It was the night of fire festivals and of love magic, of love oracles and divination. It had to do with lovers and predictions, when pairs of lovers would jump through the luck-bringing flames...'' It was believed that the crops would grow as high as the couples were able to jump. Ancient Sweden: A Midsummer tree was set up and decorated in each town. The villagers danced around it. Women and girls would customarily bathe in the local river. This was a magical ritual, intended to bring rain for the crops.

Christian countries: After the conversion of Europe to Christianity, the feast day of St. John the Baptist was set as JUN-24. It "is one of the oldest feasts, if not the oldest feast, introduced into both the Greek and Latin liturgies to honour a saint." 16 Curiously, the feast is held on the alleged date of his birth. Other Christian saints' days are observed on the anniversary of their death. Neopaganism: This is a group of religions which are attempted re-constructions of ancient Pagan religions. Of these, Wicca is the most common; it is loosely based partly on ancient Celtic beliefs and practices. Wiccans recognize eight seasonal days of celebration. Four are minor sabbats and occur at the two solstices and the two equinoxes. The other are major sabbats which happen approximately halfway between an equinox and solstice. The summer solstice sabbat is often called Midsummer or Litha. Prehistoric Europe: Many remains of ancient stone structures can be found throughout Europe. Some date back many millennia BCE. Many appear to have religious/astronomical purposes; others are burial tombs. These structures were built before writing was developed. One can only speculate on the significance of the summer solstice to the builders. Perhaps the most famous of these structures is Stonehenge, a megalith monument on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. It was built in three stages, between circa 3000 and 1500 BCE. "The circular bank and ditch, double circle of 'bluestones' (spotted dolerite), and circle of sarsen stones (some with white lintels), are concentric, and the main axis is aligned on the midsummer sunrise--an orientation that was probably for ritual rather than scientific purposes.4 Four "station stones" within the monument form a rectangle whose shorter side also points in the direction of the midsummer sunrise.

Guiding the Guidance

The Natural Solutions Foundation was so distressed by the abusive and dangerous "FDA Guidance on CAM Regulation " that we urged people to voice their strong objection to it directly to the FDA. And 185,522 folks did just that! Of course, 445,235 people tried to submit their comments but, because of constant interference with our links and our site, could not get their comments in to the FDA. To help those who had difficulty with the links, I hired 3 fill time people to submit their comments for them since our link continued to work (most of the time) so we were able to submit a huge number of comments that way (which we called "Plan B").

"Abuse of Power"

You may recall that the Natural Solutions Foundation applied for an extension of the Public Comment period for this skewed and alternative-medicine-hostile FDA "statement of the law" which is, in reality, what Congressman Ron Paul, MD describes as "an abuse of FDA power".

Well, we got our extension, but very, very grudgingly! Although the Public Comment period was closed on April 30, because of our request for an extension, it was reopened for a meager few days!

We have until May 29, 2007 to get it through to the FDA that their "Guidance on CAM Regulation" is, in fact, a serious misstatement of the law. Our legal analysts believe that it is an apparent preparation for "enforcement" of that misstatement of the law against all natural procedures and products. This is not acceptable to the American public. We need to tell the FDA that in no uncertain terms.

This is the guidance that says ...

For example, the guidance says that if the intention in using (or giving to yourself or another person) a food, juice or "CAM Product" [there is no such category but it would seem to refer to supplements, herbs, wheat grass juice, etc., etc.], that item then becomes an untested drug through your intent alone. Untested drugs are illegal in the US and abroad.

The guidance defines "CAM" as "Complementary and Alternative Medicine", not "Modalities" or "Medicines" so that any CAM modality of any sort (energy, nutrition, massage, acupuncture, homeopathy, etc.) could become a "Physicians only" activity.

Licensed physicians who carried out these treatments instead of following "practice algorithms" (that means drugs) could face disciplinary action including the loss of their licenses and FDA raids by armed marshals and dogs on their offices.

By the way, there has been a lot of internet discussion about whether or not the CAM Guidance is really a threat. Frankly, after reading what has been circulating on this question, those who do not believe that it is a real threat either do not get it or do not want to get it.

The threat could not be more real.

The FDA Office of Policy and Planning has taken the time and effort to mis-state, extend and distort the law setting up the most draconian interpretation of how to restrict CAM -- read pharmaceutical free -- treatments and therapies.

What do 2/3 of Americans do? They use CAM treatments and therapies. What do the drug companies want to do about that? Smash, totally eliminate, literally kill the most powerful competitor for treatment dollars this side of clean, unadulterated food!

The FDA acknowledged that they got a LOT of comments from us (if you remember, comments through our website were the only ones getting to the FDA according to the Office of the Receiver of Dockets). Submit your comments now if you have not already done so. I just received a phone call from Philip J. Chao, FDA author of the CAM
Guidance to let me know that FDA just published an announcement that the
comment period has been extended through May 29, 2007.

The announcement is at:

indicates, "Public concern based on misinterpretations of the draft guidance
has generated a large volume of comments to the docket."

I take strong exception to this characterization of public demands to protect
our alternative practices. The FDA still doesn't get it. Upon whose authority
has the public concern been determined to be based upon "misinterpretations?"
The FDA makes the Guidance and then judges the opponents as "misinterpreters"
- this is the hallmark of bureaucratic hubris. The Agency can't be wrong, so
the public must be. Even when, as Congressman Ron Paul put it, the Guidance is
"an abuse of FDA power..."?

There is a clear disconnect between the Agency, Congress and the public --
with Congress supporting the public! For example, when the Senate earlier this
month wrote DSHEA protective language into S.1082, the FDA empowerment law now
before the House. It is therefore more important than ever that the House act
to enhance the Senate language by exempting all compounded, nutraceutical,
bioidentical and functional foods.

3,000 Bees Force Evacuation of Fundraiser.....Publicity ?...Priceless!!

What a hoot of a story.........what visuals......and what a great way to have the public learn a little more about our sweet, sweet honey bees, our hard working girls...........particularly with all the talk of Colony Collapse in the news......... public awareness ....for all involved...........the fundraiser and the bees.......what a fabulous stroke of luck!!!

You know, bees are so gentle for the most part particularly this time of year.....they usually just mind their own business and most people never get to see a swarm in real life........let alone watch someone capture it. Now all we need is Jerry Sienfield in his "bee suit".....it seems like the "Year of the Bee" doesn't it?

This just seemed like a fun way to start the week.......stay tune for more Bee Adventures!

• Beekeeper used smoke to calm the insects and coax them into beehive
LIGONIER, Indiana (AP) -- A swarm of honeybees temporarily disrupted a charity fundraising event, but no one reported being stung.

Authorities evacuated the area Saturday after the swarm of about 3,000 bees emerged from the woods around the West Noble High School football field, where 700 people were participating in a fundraising walk for the American Cancer Society.

The bees landed on a large umbrella shading the campsite of one of the more than 60 teams taking part in the 24-hour event in the town, 40 miles northwest of Fort Wayne.

A local beekeeper, Matt Green, used a smoke machine to calm the bees and coax them into a beehive he brought to the field. The event was delayed about 45 minutes.
