So, we're about half way through a month of shows and still kickin. The first week we were out with Okkerville River and had a lot of fun with those guys. Thanks to Okkerville Will, we've had Bob Dylan as our navigator throughout Spain. They turned us on to hours of his Theme Time Radio Hour, and we listen to at least one everyday on the road. Bob on Joni Mitchel "I've been in a car with Joni. She's a good a driver. I felt safe..." These are things that keep you sane on 12 hour drives across Europe! Ray and Josh are slowly coining their own vernacular. Word of the day "soft-bagging: haning close" Last night we played a great show in Madrid, opening up for the amazing Elvis Perkins in Dearland. What a great band, harmoniums! marching band drums! trombones! We even coerced Wyndham ,Brigham & Nick from Dearland to join us in a raucus version of Picture Show in Alicante, Spain. Our friend Bernie DeChant has been on tour with us for this past week, taking pictures and filming us doing crazy things. Yesterday we did a promo for Spanish TV where we actually got to stand in the middle of Madrid's biggest bull fighting arena... Placa de Torros de las Ventas and sang a stripped-down version of Sweetheart of the Rodeo. It was stunning... a 15,000 seat arena! They were preparing for an American Rodeo that night, so we were surrounded by cowboys, painted horses, and yes, Actual Bulls. Standing in the middle of that empty arena, Josh Kaufman played a lick on the gospel guitar and it resonated forever! Ray was playin harmonica and we were all singing our hearts out. Riding back in the cab from that experience none of us could believe what just happened. Gotta get back in the van....we're heading to Belgium today. Lets see what Bob has to say about that. Here are some snapshots from Bernie DeChant he'll be posting more photos on his site once he's recovered from the whirlwind.

Andrew Bird

Nada Surf

and DeVotchKa are among the eight artists to contribute to Songs From The Point!, a new compilation reinventing the music from
Harry Nilsson's

cult-classic cartoon musical. After its 1971 debut as a made-for-TV movie on ABC,The Point! amassed an adoring following for the sweet soundtrack composed by Nilsson, a songwriter who had previously released a handful of his own albums and written songs for the likes of
The Monkees

 and
Three Dog Night

Songs From The Point!, set for an Oct. 27 release, harnesses each musician's unique sound to revive Nilsson's original soundtrack. Bird plucks his violin and chimes bells in a reimagined "Think About Your Troubles" that could be right a home on Noble Beast; Landes' "Life Line" is characteristically smooth and dreamy; Nathaniel Rateliff'sgentle croon brings a new softness to the lullabye "Are You Sleeping?" The interpretations capture the sentiment of loneliness and adventure that characterize Nilsson's Oblio, the only boy with a round head to be born into The Pointed Village.

The project benefits 826NYC, a educational non-profit located inside Park Slope's Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. All proceeds from Songs From The Point! will go to this tutoring center for young writers, which relies on professional writers to provide after-school tutoring, workshops, field trips and in-class help for local students. 826NYC is a chapter of 826 National, a network of non-profits that launched whenDave Eggers opened a tutoring center in the pirate supply shop/headquarters of McSweeney's publishing house at 826 Valencia Street in San Francisco.
