How fucking cool is this?! It's August 15th. It's Free. It's going to be AMAZING. I'm REALLY psyched.
all the love, m
Composer Rhys Chatham and section leaders John King, Ned Sublette, David Daniell, and Seth Olinsky (Akron/Family) lead an oversized orchestra* of 200 volunteer electric guitarists and bassists in the world premiere of A Crimson Grail for 200 Electric Guitars (Outdoor Version), performed not on the bandshell stage but along the sides of the audience at Damrosch Park, to heighten the work's polyphonic effect. The work, originally composed for Paris' famed Sacré-Coeur, has been extensively revised to suit the dynamics of the park's outdoor acoustic.
*Includes members, alumni, and collaborators of: The Modern Lovers, Reagan Youth, Akron/Family, Pussy Galore, Oneida, Parts and Labor, Glenn Branca's Hallucination City and Symphony 13 for 100 Guitars, Band of Susans, Damo Suzuki, Thurston Moore, Taj Mahal, Love as Laughter, Ex Models, The Depreciation Guild, Maxi Geil & Playcolt, Merzbow, Panthers, Cloudland Canyon, Shock Cinema, The Hidden Cameras, Vietnam, Indian Jewelry, usaisamonster, Saxon Shore, Face the Music, Daughters, San Agustin, Magik Markers, and The Natural History, as well as the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Berklee College of Music, Northwestern University Classical Guitar Ensemble, NY Symphonic Arts Ensemble, and the P.S. 180 Guitar Group.

Hey!
So...we're bummed to report that our very own madcap drummer, Palmyra Delran, is no longer playing with Santa Marias. I know right? What the eff? Uggh!
But...PDR's got a lot of stuff happening solo-wise and she's got to do her own thing (check out www.myspace.com/palmyradelran).
What does this mean for Santa Marias? A lot! Betsy & Mitzi (that's us!) will continue on and we'll start searching for a new drummer. Could that be you? Or a friend of yours? Or your neighbor? Or your friend's neighbor?
Let's go!
Love,
Betsy & Mitzi SANTA MARIAS
