DU UY QUINTET bio:

The DU UY Quintet was formed with the aim of presenting new, interesting, and diverse original music. More a compositional ensemble than a genre-derived group, the DU UY Quintets identity is found within the stylistic interplay of the musicians rather than a pre-defined style of music. This allows the DU UY Quintet the compositional freedom to write and perform music of varying styles (funk, boleros, jazz, electronica, drum and bass, samba, rock, cha cha, bossa nova, and who knows what else) yet still retain a strong, identifiable group sound. The DU UY Quintets shows provide head-turning music for audience members just discovering the group, and new and evolving compositions for repeat listeners.

The DU UY Quintet is based out of
San Francisco, and can be found in some of the hippest venues in the bay area and beyond. Additionally, all the musicians have been and are currently performing with some of the most exciting groups in the area. Trumpeter- Danny Cao, saxophonist- Doug Thomas, and drummer- Alexis Razon have been performing nationwide with the instrumental groove band Vinyl for the past 10 years in many notable local and national venues. Guitarist- Jon Monahan is a long time member of local hip-hop luminaries Felonious. Bassist- Paul Eastburn performs regularly with the exciting, Brazilian-oriented Nobody From Ipanema and up and coming bay area band No Origin.

MANICATO bio:

Coming straight out of San Francisco's Mission district, Manicato can be heard bumping consistently out of "The Pink Palace" at Florida and Cesar Chavez. The Pink Palace is a haven for musicians, dancers and like minded people. The word Manicato (A bold, valiant person of a good heart) is derived from an indigenous tribe of Puerto Rico known as the Tainos. When this project started, the goals were clear: write music that moves people socially, politically, consciously, spiritually, and of course physically. First, Israel and Ramon teamed up with long time friend and conguero Enrique Padilla who knew the different styles and rhythms the two wanted to incorporate. Next, drummer Steve Salta hooked up with the trio and brought along a phenomenal Bass player from Philadelphia named Chris Jones. Not long after, a horn section was born...and they were triplets, Alan Williams (Trombone) , Henry Hung (Trumpet), and Danny Cao (Trumpet) creating this signature sound of the horn section. To top off the percussion section, the very versatile Mio 'Timbalero' Flores joined in on Timbales. Guitarist Ramon Parada-Rios's songwriting, musical ideas and arrangements make Manicato stand out when it comes to their original sound. Vocalist and songwriter Israel Matos teams up with his father Cris Matos in one of the only father and son vocal sections in the city. Manicatos' music will have you dancing Salsa, Reggae, Bomba, Plena, Rock, Cumbia, Hip-Hop, Funk and everything in between.
