I was born in Aberdeen Scotland on 5 August 1957, flitted to Burnley Lancashire when I was thirteen.
I am a fully qualified Graphic designer, hence the letters following my name Paul Taylor ASTD MSIAD.
My love for dance music came from the joys of Northern soul, the town of Wigan the centre of the world for that sound and it brought ' the soul out in me' and I thank the DJ's of that era for that. It was Northern Soul and the Tamla Motown sound that taught me how to love dance and enjoy life and it was at that time I realised I was born to play.
My DJ career started in 1974 and my first gig was at a new venue in Burnley called Angels', it all started on a Wednesday night during the summer. I knew a DJ there at that time and our love of the new wave of the jazz funk sound brought us together to kick start a midweek gig and it turned into a huge success. We were attracting people from all parts of the UK there was an underground dance scene developing and people were willing to travel for it- even during the week!!
Paul Taylor the DJ was born and I never looked back…….. The next 20 years I found myself juggling my DJ career with my graphic design profession but deep down I knew that music was always going to be the winner for me.
Angel's became my life; I became the resident DJ and had to play a vast array of dance music working five nights a week this taught me to have an open mind about all forms of music. In the late 80's I was given the opportunity to own Angels and launched myself into the stressful world of club ownership, there were more up's than down's and I'm proud to be apart of the history surrounding that legendary venue.
Angel's became a home for the big name DJ's of their day- they all played there Pete Tong, Cox, Oakenfold Sasha and the rest. I remained the resident and the promoter until the council pulled down the scared venue to build a shopping centre in 1996.
By this time the sacred sound of Angels had transformed into a celebration of house music and we re-named it 'Retro' we were packing them in other venues in the North West of England and the ' Retro' sound then created its own story.
During my DJ career I have had the privilege of working alongside some great artists and music labels as a dream to create music as well as play it.

And finally...
My up most respect goes out to Pete Waterman, Mark Hadfield (the late) Paul Waterman, Colin Thorpe and the beautiful voice that is Rachel McFarlane for the Loveland sound. Today as I approach my 50th birthday I am still as passionate about dance music as I was back in the early 70's.
So much so that I live and breath it every day of my life I now travel around the world djing holding down my brand names ' Retro' and ' Lovefunky' and I'm still finding time to create music in the studio.
My only fear in my life is that one day I may have to stop doing this but I really don't want to think about that right now.
FOR THE LOVE OF HOUSE
