FAST AND FURIOUS!

That's the only way I can describe my life in the fast lane at the moment, so fast I never get the opportunity to reflect and that can put anyone on a downer. Don't get me wrong I would not swap my life for anyone else's but shit its passing far too quickly for my liking!

The reason I'm harping on about this shit is because I've recently been involved in a few amazing situations which I feel needed documenting straight away but because I'm always on the move time just goes. Firstly last Saturday's Retro at Trees, after all the shite that has happened there, the massive effort by everyone concerned in getting the place back open, the stress in dealing with the operational side (thanks Adam and co), the huge amount of wasted time and cost ... and then BANG! along came Saturday, one of the best yet, it was very real, pure and simply outstanding and an absolute pleasure to be part of. I had a chance to record something on this site after my Pacha Classics gig the following night, absolutely knackered I had to mention the FAMILY feeling on a Retro Chat post just before slipping into a deep sleep and I fell asleep with a warm feeling and a smile on my face - bit emotional? Damned right, what a night.

As I mentioned in that post, there is a sad side to this situation, sometime in the very near future it WILL come top an end and yet to be confirmed I believe we have SIX Retro's at Trees left including NYE so hey lets make the fucking most of those remaining nights and lets leave with the best memories of our lives eh.

I can't wait for my next visit for my birthday bash on Sat 9th August, the hairs on my arms stand up every time I think of it, counting the days people.

Then when I fly to Ibiza and play at Pacha Classics every two weeks its absolutely rammed and Im talking main room going right off - just amazing. But nothing compared to the Thursday night just gone, out of the blue, Sanchez banging it out in the main room at Pacha and then BOSH! one of the best Retro nights EVER in the Global Room, rammed full with familiar faces from all Retro UK events alongside many new faces from different nationalities all going ape to the Retro sound ... It just aint getting any better, or is it? I'm loving it, you guys are lovin it, shit we're all lovin it and thank you all so much for doin that thing, it's really indescribable.

Thats about it for now except to say sorry about Digital this friday even though it really was NOT our fault, I know how many had made big plans for this event but it was really out of our hands by as late as last Thursday, an apology by Digital would be nice under the circumstances even if it was a genuine mistake on both parts.

Can you please try and support the Retro team at LIQUID in OLDHAM this Saturday, its our launch date there and Ricky, our Ben and the fabulous Toe Knee Walker would just love it if you came along. Good luck guys.

Guess what, ME ... I'm taking a well earned Weekend off, putting my tired old drub ends up and looking forward to doin fuck all for a few days - BLISS! Looking forward tho to seeing you all at Pacha on Monday night and LOVEFUNKY next Friday (July 25th) at the sumptuous Empire in Middlesbrough.

Finally, we are all working hard to resolve the messy situation regarding the big question on everybody's lips in Magaluf - where the fook is Retro on Tuesdays over there? Answers very soon - we hope.

Remember though - MUSIC IS THE ANSWER TO YOUR PROBLEMS

TOO RIGHT!!

Just got back from playing at Pacha in the beautiful city of Barcelona and what a mint time I had, everyone was so friendly and bang into their music. I hope to go back there soon !

Loads of you been contacting us at Retro HQ regarding the Retro night at Trees, quite a few saying it was one of the best ones ever ! Very few whinges so thanks for keeping in touch. We are working on some new ideas for the chat forum to return and we will update you on that as soon as we can. We also have coming a new site for the Retro Shop due to its success so again watch this space.

We have decided to unfortunately CANCEL all future events at Pure in Manchester, it was by mutual consent but basically we all felt the venue was not a proper Retro vibe gaff so its brussel sprout to that. Stay tuned though, there is going to be some exciting new locations for us soon.

Our first ever venture into the land of Warrington happens this coming Bank holiday Sunday at the all new SYNERGY with its big sound system and fresh interior. Expect a very busy venue with myself, Dylan Jeffers and Ricardo Isted ( local boy ) alongside a live performance by Loveland's Rachel McFarlane and loads of eye opening special effects and you should be in for a spectacular RETRO EXPERIENCE!

See you all there. . .. Dancin, movin and shakin.

Well it's all go @ Retro Towers.

Firstly let me thank the peops that turned out to see us at the wonderful Pure in Manchester last Friday and what a turnout! I've got a good feeling about this venue and after the summer we are gonna smash it in there!

As always the Trees was magnificent on the Saturday and even in the quieter summer months the atmosphere is still up there!

Bradford on Friday was a little quieter than normal but nevertheless you guys were still dancin till the end. Terminal One was busy again, great. Dylan,Ben and Ricky can do the Retro thing spot on and are flying the Retro flag!

It's certainly not gone unnoticed how many people are traveling from the North East to Mallorca and Ibiza. I can't thank you guys enough for your support alongside our fellow Retro heads from Yorkshire & Lancashire. What i have also noticed there are more and more southerners discovering the love of Retro on the Balearic islands and indeed the local Spanish are becoming hooked on ' our' sound.

It's another mad week coming up. At the weekend i am well up for Lovefunky at The Empire on Friday then the double header @ Wakey & Burnley on Saturday where the huge vocal talent of Steve Edwards who is singing live will be the highlight for me.

......Then its a quick shower then i'm back on a flight back to Ibiza for Pacha Classics on Sunday night.

Just gotta tell you how massive myself and me ol mucker mate Mark Hadfield feel about our ' little booty' of Red Hot Chilli Peppers 'OTHERSIDE'. There are only 20 copies on CD out there and people like Roger Sanchez and David Guetta are playing it- we really have created a great track. I don't have a scooby whats going to happen to it but if i get some promo copies out there i'll let you know.

Check out the myspaces if you want to hear it!

Ok MORE BIG NEWS........

For those who don't already know it's RETRO MEETS GATECRASHER on SUNDAY 26TH AUGUST @ TALL TREES. This is going to be a massive event. Retro will be in club M. There's me, Ricky Isted and Jane Angel. We've got live percussionist PAV, he's wicked on those bongos. Nikki Belle will be singing live for us, Whelan & Di Scala Sunset to Sunrise, i canny wait. In addition to this we've got the works with the special effects including an LED dancefloor.

Then the Alexander suite is going to be transformed for the massive Gatecrasher room with Ferry Corsten, Ron Van Gelderen, Marcel Woods and Riley & Durrant. There will be massive sound, lights lasers it'll look wicked.

Then we've got Glitz in the Library bar with Suzee X, Mikey Dalton from Big Brother and more.......

For all the info and to purchase tickets check our www.retromeetscrasher.co.uk or ticketweb.co.uk.

FINALLY....

Retro 7 is complete, its mint and will be with us in about 3 weeks!!!!

Bye for Now

Hey my fellow Retro heads sorry i haven't been on my shout section for a while my work schedule has been absolutely manic!

Everywhere the Retro Metro visits these days is just amazing particularly in Pacha Ibiza; in both the global room on Thursday and the main room on Sundays- you really must try and get over there-it's rocking as is club XES/ Bora Bora in Magalluf.

There is a HUGE demand for that remake of The Red Hot Chilli Peppers Tune ' Otherside' version that me and Rox have done - the big names in Ibiza have been dropping it and it's exploding on most Pacha nights. There are no plans to release this beauty but you can hear it on both my My Space and the Retro My Space pages.

Big and heavy this week- me and Ben are off to Magalluf on Tuesday- over to Ibiza @ Pacha on Thursday, Pure in Manchester on Friday, Tall Trees on Saturday and i'm back in Pacha for the huge Pacha classics / fetish event on Sunday.

Also dont forget to come and meet me at Ibiza pre parties for Retro @ Savannah on Thursday just after sundown, and at Mambo on Sunday. They are just so cool!

Phew- i need a jet- anyone got one to lend me ?????????????

It's you guys that get me through this hectic schedule that i've taken on- the passion that you have for Retro and Lovefunky sound gives me the energy and love to keep movin on.

Please keep it coming,

Luv ya's all.

Thursday, April 19, 2007

I was born in Aberdeen Scotland on 5 August 1957, flitted to Burnley Lancashire when I was thirteen.

I am a fully qualified Graphic designer, hence the letters following my name Paul Taylor ASTD MSIAD.

My love for dance music came from the joys of Northern soul, the town of Wigan the centre of the world for that sound and it brought ' the soul out in me' and I thank the DJ's of that era for that. It was Northern Soul and the Tamla Motown sound that taught me how to love dance and enjoy life and it was at that time I realised I was born to play.

My DJ career started in 1974 and my first gig was at a new venue in Burnley called Angels', it all started on a Wednesday night during the summer. I knew a DJ there at that time and our love of the new wave of the jazz funk sound brought us together to kick start a midweek gig and it turned into a huge success. We were attracting people from all parts of the UK there was an underground dance scene developing and people were willing to travel for it- even during the week!!

Paul Taylor the DJ was born and I never looked back…….. The next 20 years I found myself juggling my DJ career with my graphic design profession but deep down I knew that music was always going to be the winner for me.

Angel's became my life; I became the resident DJ and had to play a vast array of dance music working five nights a week this taught me to have an open mind about all forms of music. In the late 80's I was given the opportunity to own Angels and launched myself into the stressful world of club ownership, there were more up's than down's and I'm proud to be apart of the history surrounding that legendary venue.

Angel's became a home for the big name DJ's of their day- they all played there Pete Tong, Cox, Oakenfold Sasha and the rest. I remained the resident and the promoter until the council pulled down the scared venue to build a shopping centre in 1996.

By this time the sacred sound of Angels had transformed into a celebration of house music and we re-named it 'Retro' we were packing them in other venues in the North West of England and the ' Retro' sound then created its own story.

During my DJ career I have had the privilege of working alongside some great artists and music labels as a dream to create music as well as play it.

Here's my discography; Artist and productions:

The vision masters feat Kylie Minogue                Keep on pumping it up  1991

Hi Givers                                                              Love and Money  1991

And finally...

My up most respect goes out to Pete Waterman, Mark Hadfield (the late) Paul Waterman, Colin Thorpe and the beautiful voice that is Rachel McFarlane for the Loveland sound. Today as I approach my 50th birthday I am still as passionate about dance music as I was back in the early 70's.

So much so that I live and breath it every day of my life I now travel around the world djing holding down my brand names ' Retro' and ' Lovefunky' and I'm still finding time to create music in the studio.

My only fear in my life is that one day I may have to stop doing this but I really don't want to think about that right now.

FOR THE LOVE OF HOUSE
