New Meeting Room

EMO meetings will now be held in room 173 because there is a class scheduled during this time period in room 170.

The due date for member dues was originally set for September 15th. However, because the date of the first meeting had been moved, the date for club dues has also been moved to September 22, 2009. Just to remind everyone – the amount is $5/semester. If you have not paid, then you cannot participate in voting.

Nominations will close at 11:59 PM on September 22nd. At that time, all members who have paid their membership dues will be able to vote via e-mail. Another e-mail will be sent out that include the final list of nominees. At that time, any paid members who wish to vote may reply to the e-mail with

~ Their Name

~ Their ID Number

~ Their choices for all offices.

Voting will close at 11:59 on September 26, 2009 and all votes will be tallied. Another meeting will then be held to announce the new officers.

Social Meetings

As discussed during the last meeting, EMO is looking to have two meetings per month – one for business and one social in an attempt to build a greater sense of community within the organization and also to further build interest in EMO. Some suggestions were:

~ Art Expressions, which has open mic on Tuesdays.

~ Art Walk, which takes place on the first Friday of every month.

The Secretary will get details on both these events and report on them at the next meeting. If there are any other suggestions, feel free to contact EMO.

HESTEC

EMO will be participating in HESTEC again this year.

Date: September 27, 2009.

Suggested activities: balloon animals (1st choice), face painting (2nd choice), and food items (3rd choice)

If we do decide to sell balloon animals, then EMO will hold a balloon animal workshop for all members who wish to volunteer at HESTEC.

Carnival of the Great Pumpkin

EMO will also be participating in Carnival of the Great Pumpkin. Booth decorations and activities need to be discussed further once the details for HESTEC have been sorted out.

Other October activities that members may wish to participate in:

~ Murder Mystery Dinner on Oct. 23rd

~ Pumpkin Carving Contest on October 31st

Shirts

A logo needs to be decided on and organization t-shirts need to be made. If you have any suggestions, please contact us.

EMO Meeting @ Moonbeans, August 4 @ 7PM.

Present Members

~ Monica Mejia
~ Lucian Silcox
~ Ronnie Garza
~ Raye Dickenson
~ Christopher Yeshe
~ Christina Perez
~ Xozlitl Pena
~ Abby Lindholm

Meeting Times
Meeting times were discussed and set tentatively for Mondays at 7 PM.  The room will depend on what's available on that date.

Generating Interest in EMO
In an effort to generate more interest in EMO, it was suggested that we have social meeting as well as business meetings.  The business meetings will be held on campus, and the social meetings will be held off campus.

Ronnie suggested poetry night @ Art Expressions in McAllen.  On Tuesdays @ 8:30, there is open mic.  So, the meetings could be held prior to the open mic, starting between 5-7, followed by a chance to share and enjoy each other's work.

EMO Bench
Abby said that she and Arnie had come up with a simple design: Eng. Majors Organization on the back and Myspace/Email on the seat.

Raye volunteered herself and Yvette to come up with another design.  Plans include painting the bench by Monday.

New Secretary
Monica nominated Raye as the new secretary.  7 members agreed.

Dues
EMO dues are $5/semester per member.  The first meeting is set tentatively for September 1st.  The deadline for dues is two weeks from the first meeting, September 15th.

No treasury report was available.

EMO Costume Party (Halloween)
It was suggested that EMO could host a costume party for Halloween.  There would be a loose theme of dressing as a favorite author or character from a book.  One suggested location was the university ballroom.

Carnival of the Great Pumpkin
EMO's booth at the Carnival of the Great Pumpkin was discussed.  It was agreed that further information was needed, including the date of the carnival as well as the time.  Lucian volunteered various Halloween decorations.  It was also suggested that DDR worked really well last year, so that is something to keep in mind for this year's booth.

Just to let you EMO members know that we were assigned a bench (COAS East - 1).

We have until August the 15th to paint this bench and we WILL be having a meeting ASAP -hopefully next week (We will let you all know when and where in a future email).

Also,
OSD decided to make a contest for the best bench, table, and water tower painted.

Each one will be judged on its own category (e.g. bench, table, and water tower) based on creativity and originality.

If your organization wins, OSD will host a pizza party for your organization.
