The sixth annual International Quirkyalone Day is approaching. . .
please put this party on your list!

International Quirkyalone Day Party
Thursday, February 14, 7 pm
Red Hill Books
401 Cortland Avenue
Bernal Heights, San Francisco

The after-party will continue next door at the Stray Bar (309
Cortland) at 9pm with continued mingling and quirky cocktails.

It's also a To-Do List Mixer! Bring a to-do list to see if it's
compatible with someone else's.

Miranda Culp of The Mirandaband will be lighting up torch songs.

About IQD:
IQD has now been celebrated in forty cities around the globe.

What is it? International Quirkyalone Day is a do-it-yourself
celebration of romance, friendship, and independent spirit. It's a
celebration of all kinds of love: romantic, platonic, familial, and
yes, self-love.

International Quirkyalone Day is not anti-Valentine's Day. It's NOT a
pity party for single people. It's an alternative--a feel-good
alternative to the marketing barrage of Valentine's Day and an
antidote to the silicone version of love presented in shows such as
The Bachelor.

Don't live in the Bay Area but want to celebrate? The quirkyalone
movement is a grassroots movement. Don't ask when IQD is coming to
your town—bring it there yourself.

If you're thinking about hosting your own Quirkyalone Day gathering,
check out these party tips and supplies such as nametags and handouts:

Post news about your event on the online community on quirkyalone.net:
http://quirkyalone.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=3&sid=066c2888161fb50dad7c01ba3399a872

Let me know if you want to throw your own IQD! I can help spread the
word by posting about it on the main page of quirkyalone.net!

Happy party planning,
Sasha Cagen

TO-DO LIST LAUNCH PARTY AND LIST SLAM IN SF
Saturday, November 10
8pm
Cafe Royale
800 Post at Leavenworth
San Francisco (a close walk from Powell BART)

Come meet your fellow quirkyalones and listmakers. Bring a list to read at the List Slam (think poetry slam but instead of poetry we'll read lists) or tack up a list on the List Shrine. Books Inc. will sell signed copies of the book.

To-Do List is a collection of 100 handwritten lists and the stories behind them. They're from everyone from a Florida schoolteacher who wants to lose 92 pounds to a young Mormon looking for his ideal mate. The book is full color, which means you get to see the lists in all their crossed-out, tactile glory. Really, they're more than just to-do lists, they're an inside view into who we are and what we want, from the meaningful to the mundane. They're the bullet-point version of a diary, a way of peeking into each other's minds. The book also includes original survey data on the habits of our growing list-making nation and musings from me on the roles lists play in our lives.

" Come mingle with your fellow listmakers Friday, November 16, at Mrs. Dalloway's in Berkeley (close to campus). Hey, it will be a Friday night, what better to-do than share your to-do list with your fellow listmakers. Bring a list to read or share.

TO-DO LIST AT GOOGLE IN MOUNTAIN VIEW

Tuesday, December 4, noon
Google Campus, Mountainview

If you or someone you know works at Google in Mountain View (and is lucky enough to get all those free massages) tell them to come see me talk about To-Do List Tuesday Dec. 4 as part of the authors@google series. I'll talk about some of my favorite lists and give you tips on how to analyze your own and those of your friends. Google is kind enough to post videos of their author talks on YouTube, so I'll be sure to link to it when it's posted.

Hope to see you at one of these events!

I have an essay called "How I Dodged a Reality Show Bullet" (about the absurd process of auditioning for the WORST dating reality show ever, How to Get the Guy) in a new Seal Press anthology Single State of the Union: Single Women Speak Out on Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Happiness. It's a great new collection of voices on the single-female experience. Check it out!

Hey all, and especially all who live in the vicinity of Boulder, Colorado,

During the week of April 9 to the 13, I'm going to participate in the Conference of World Affairs at the University of Colorado, Boulder. It's a highly eclectic weeklong conference where approximately 100 writers, academics, and others are invited to join in a panel discussions on every political and personal topic under the sun. Past attendees are Arianna Huffington and Molly Ivins (RIP) and Roger Ebert. I'm psyched to participate and hope to meet some QAs there! Maybe you . . .
