SLO AND DYSFUNCTIONAL IS FIVE YEARS OLD IN 2008 AND WE NEED BANDS TO FILL THE DISC.

If you are a LOCAL BAND (one or more members of your band live on the Central Coast within the New Rock 1073 broadcast area) and want to get your stuff on our disc and even possibly on the radio here's what you need to do.

Other than that we'll take it anyway you can get it here including carrier pigeon or messenger fox.

    Okay, I have a MySpace pet peeve to share with you guys. Ever since we've been given the ability to show "moods" here on MySpizzle I have enjoyed being drunk, excited, working, and bored. And I really have to applaud the myriad of emotions I am constrained to (quasi-oxymoron intended), but there is one emotion I believe is being abused:

    quixotic [kwik-sot-ik]
    –adjective
    1. (sometimes initial capital letter ) resembling or befitting Don Quixote.
    2. Extravagantly chivalrous or romantic; visionary, impractical, or impracticable.
    3. Impulsive and often rashly unpredictable.

    Now, I have always loved this word, probably portending from my love of The Ingenious Hidalgo himself, and I see people putting this up as their mood for almost no related reason to its definition, because it is a goofy looking word. I can see, at times, that you all are using it for the word's 3rd definition; what you don't realize is that the impulsive/unpredictable definition is to be taken in the context of the nomenclature.

    So unless you are a knight errant, your temporary (or even fixed) aberration takes the form of a descent into fantastical insanity born of chivalrous novels where your either literal or metaphorical journey finds you stealing a barber's basin that obviously is the mythic Mambrino's helmet, battling men for the shear reason that you perceived them to be "insulting" your fictitious girlfriend, or you are experiencing a melancholy return to sanity following a complete disillusionment in everything you believe in please please PLEASE do not use this word delinquent.

    It is one of the great beauties of our silly language that we have words as whimsically useless and specific as quixotic. I would hope we could all do what we can to foster this absurdity; there are literally TENS of neologists out there that rely on dorks like me to make sure that inutile words are kept that way to put food on the table.

-That being said, I believe my monitor has turned into a venomous duck.

Your chance to open for Godsmack!
New Rock 107.3 is giving your band the exclusive, once in a lifetime opprtunity to open for... Godsmack!

Here's how to enter your band:

Submitting press kits or bios and CD/DVDs are mandatory as part of your registration.  These materials will be used for media advertising purposes, marketing purposes and to place qualifiers' videos on newrock1073.com.  Materials will NOT be returned.  Preferrably 2 songs, not longer then 10 minutes in length,

RULES:
The 'Your Chance To Open For Godsmack' contest will take place online.  The winning band will perform Sunday, July 29th at the California Mid State Fair with headliner Godsmack.  Some of the key points are:

- Bands playing original songs are eligible, but no solo artists or cover bands
- All bands need  to supply New Rock 107.3 with a bio, mp3, and DVD or Windows Media File of their performance.
- All band members must be available to perform on July 29th - no substitutes!
- Unsigned bands ONLY

This compeition has been created to give local bands an opportunity to break into the music scene and in some cases advance further in the music world.  This event also gives bands the opportunity to perform in front of a very large crowd at the Mid State Fair Grandstand on a professional stage.

Judges retain right to accept or reject bands for the competition.  Qualifiers will be selected from all entries and voting will begin on July 18th.  The top finalists will be posted on newrock1073.com and voted on by listeners.  On or around Monday, July 23th voting will end.  The winner will be announced on or around July 24th, 2007.

Bands must supply band name, style of music, contact person with address, phone number, e-mail address and web address (if available) as well as an alternate contact person with address, phone number, and e-mail address.

Judging:
The judging panel will consist of radio station programing management.  They will be judging on the following criteria:
- performance
- musical ability
- quality of music (song submission)
- audience response via online voting
- originality

The winning band gets:
To Perform a 20-minute opening set
Ten (10) tickets to the show for the band's friends and family

New Rock 107.3 is searching for local rock. If you're in a band and live on the Central Coast, this could be the big break you've been waiting for.

It's time for Volume 4 of SLO & Dysfunctional... the CD that exposes some of the best local rock muisc on the Central Coast.
