Current mood: lonely
Simon & Garfunkel song red house painters did a cover of it. man i have been playing this song out.
A winter's day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window
To the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow
I am a rock
I am an island
I've built walls
A fortress deep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need for friendship
Friendship causes pain
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock
I am an island
Don't talk of love
Well, I've heard the word before
It's sleeping in my memory
I won't disturb the slumber
Of feelings that have died
If I'd never loved,
I never would have cried
I am a rock
I am an island
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room
Safe within my womb
I touch no-one and no-one touches me
I am a rock
I am an island
And the rock feels no pain
And an island never cries

Current mood: drunk
one of the most moving songs i have ever heard.
i was lucky to see this band live. i drove 12 hours to see them. shit! this was all most 10 years ago, bare with me, it's just hitting while i am typing. anyway, when they played this song live... all i can say is it brought me to tears. RIGHT there. just wanted to share the lyrics with all of you. BTW i am listening to the song know on headphones as i type. please give it a listen people tell me what you think.
I wander lonely streets
Behind where the old Thames does flow
And in every face I meet
Reminds me of what I have run from
In every man, in every hand
In every kiss, you understand
That living is for other men
I hope you two will understand
I've got to tell you my tale
Of how I loved and how I failed
I hope you understand
I've got to tell you my tale
Of how I loved and how I failed
I hope you understand
These feelings should not be in the man
In every child, in every eye
In every sky, above my head
I hope that I know
So come with me in bed
Because it's you and me, we're history
There ain't nothing left to say
When I will get you alone
Maybe we could find a room
Where we could see what we should do
Maybe you know it's true
Living with me is like keeping a fool<
In every man, in every hand
In every kiss, you understand
That living is for other men
I hope you know that I am me so come on
I'm thinking about history
And I'm living for history
And I think you know about me
Cause I am
And one and one is two
But three is company
When you're thinking about the things you do
And you're thinking about the things you do
I want to tell you my tale
How I fell in love and jumped out on my bail
I hope you understand there's more in a smile than in a hand
In every sky, in every kiss
There's something that I might have missed
Why am I going to
A place that now belongs to you
But you were weak and so was I
Let's pick it up, let's even try
To live today, so why not smile
Don't dream away your life 'Cause it is mine
Is that a crime this life is mine
The bed ain't made but it's filled full of hope
I've got a skin full of dope

Current mood: nostalgic
Four years ago PBS aired this documentary called the history of jazz by ken burns.
I watched it religiously (missed maybe two episodes). Anyway it’s on DVD and I have been dying to see it again. It’s a long documentary; it might be 10 DVD’s. But man it’s worth it.
So I’m asking all my myspace friends out there in myspace land, if anyone as it. And if so if you can lend it to me. I need a lil fire lit up under my ass and this would help. The first time I saw it. I was blown away. Don’t get me wrong I had my issues with the documentary. I felt they just scratched the surface with some artist. But still to make a documentary on a whole movement is not an easy thing. It is still moving and inspiring.
So , yeah if someone can lend me the DVDs that would be amazing. I will make you dinner.
Aside form that if you have not seen this documentary. Please go out and see it. “THIS IS AMERICAN MUSIC AT IT’S BEST”. this film is beautiful and will get you off that jaded kick. I recommend this to everyone.
Other recommendations:
Unforgivable Blackness - The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson (ken burns did this one to)
Instrument - Ten Years with the Band Fugazi
Bob Dylan - No Direction Home
