hey there sexy!
OMG, I have four exciting things to share with you!
first...
the next show will be NEXT FRIDAY 6/27/08 at Molly Malone's in LA!!! please please please try to make this show. we really need your support! and oh, bring your peeps!!! we love this venue, but we'll only be invited back if our friends and family show up. THIS MEANS YOU!!! can you dig it? you know I wouldn't ask you if it wasn't important. ;-) plus, we'll have our rockin' new vintage-y t-shirts for sale, free cds, AND we'll be filming a fun video that night. how much more excitement do you need on a friday night???!
FRIDAY 6/27/08 @ 9pm sharp! Molly Malone's 575 S. Fairfax Ave (just north of 6th st) Los Angeles, CA $6 cover ***neighborhood parking/try the 99 cent store lot after biz hours.
second...
I (charlie) am now an official full-time resident of Los Angeles. whoo-hoo!!! leaving nyc and the east coast is a little bittersweet for me but I am excited to be settled in one place for the first time in almost four years!!! so YEA!!! I expect to be partying and celebrating the rest of the month and ALL of next. I'm hoping you'll join me in some capacity!!! and of course, the first "party" will be next friday at Molly's!
third...
I got new ink!!! two new tattoos from the world famous LA INK (home of kat von d). I am such a dork!!! my page has all the details including some cool pics. but for now let's just say that I got a very spiritual and sacred word in sanskrit on the back of my neck. and the other tattoo...while intended as a nod to my zodiac sign of cancer, pretty much looks like "69" wrapped around my arm and has gotten me all sorts of crazy propositions!!
fourth...
speaking of propositions...I went to rehab this past weekend. REHAB IN VEGAS BABY!!! have you heard about it? big bachanal of a pool party at the hard rock on sundays. well, if you've been, you know that all the hype is TRUE. I went alone (everyone else chickened out - can you believe it!!??) but I made friends quickly - hahahaha - and had an absolute blast! I highly recommend it. one big, drunken, nightclub-y, lovefest w/a pool!!! whoo-hoo!!! I, of course, was sober and puritannical. but everyone else was a DIRTY DIRTY BIRD!!! righteous! I wish I could share the pics...
ok. so that's the news for now.
I really hope to see you on 6/27 in LA!!!
love, charlie (weeds, shirls, baby g, and gramps too!)

Current mood: adventurous
OMG!!! so really quick cuz I'm running out to do a photo shoot...
BUT my best girl, jeanine, is here in LA with me this week and let's just say my apartment has turned into party central!!! we are both on what we like to call a "freedom girl adventure" and this week in LA is just "training" for next week in VEGAS. whoo-hoo!!!
so let's see...last week I got a new piercing. ;-) my 2nd this month!!! and to be honest, I'm running out of parts to pierce!!! but the guy who does me in nyc is really cute so I keep finding excuses to go back.
OH AND TODAY jeanine and I are getting tattooed at LA INK after our photo shoot. I am getting the sanskrit symbol for freedom (mukti) on the back of my neck (among other things) and jeanine is getting the symbol for peace. OMG, we have gone absolutely nuts! can't wait to check in with you on all of this and share the pics!!!
MUKTI (freedom) - liberation, release, spiritual freedom...refers to being liberated from bondage and/or the fetters of material existence and attaining freedom and bliss. the spiritual truth and beauty of our attitude toward our surroundings, our conscious relationship with the Infinite, and the lasting power of the Eternal in the passing moments of our life. mukti grows in an atmosphere of service offered to all creatures...learning to feel the immense mystery of the soil and water and air.
THIS IS SOOOOO WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW. I can't wait to live into this fully!!! YEA!!!
love, c.

WTF???
this is gonna be brief cuz I'm running to rehearsal...
so ya'll know my week started off bad enough as it was with a BS phone-in to the Stern Show. I got COMPLETELY HOSED by everyone but robin and artie. I got hosed on SFN and the wrap up show too! but whatever. I'm tough. I can take it. in fact, BRING IT ON MF'ers!!! Ms. Superfly is ready. ok, so that was monday...
wednesday, the first day of our EAST COAST TOUR, the band got into NYC from LA at 5am. none of us had slept. so everybody was already irritated and exhausted.
our first stop was to Chelsea U-Haul to pick up the trailer that would cart our gear from town to town. well, we were at that freakin U-Haul for 2 hours!!! apparently, they didn't have the trailer we had "reserved" and stuck us with this huge-assed thing that was like carting an 18 wheeler behind us. 2 hours of arguing and dickering and wanting to kick someone in the teeth. your girl, charlie, was pissed!
second stop was back to my nyc apartment to quickly (we were parked completely illegally - on the sidewalk!!!) to grab our suitcases and MY CLOTHES b/c I am moving out (more on that later). I don't think the band was happy that I enlisted their help to move my sh*t.
next stop was the equipment rental joint. WHY DID THEY GIVE US THE WRONG ADDRESS THREE TIMES IN A ROW??? I am not kidding you!!! these people gave us three different addresses for where we should go to pick up our gear. so there we were driving in circles all over long island city, ny (who the heck knows anything about LIC, NY???) tugging this big behemoth trailer behind us. and I, being the great driver I am, was taking out garbage cans, traffic cones, and the occasional pedestrian at every corner! OMG, when we finally found the place I was soooooo mad I could spit! and all our contact guy there could say was "oh yeah, my bad".
sooooooooo, then we drive an hour and a half out to new jersey to the house we're staying at. while shirley, gerry, and jevin took showers and ate lunch, weeds and I went to the asbury park uhaul facility to trade in our giant trailer for something more medium sized. after another hour at THAT uhaul, we finally got back to the house. I had 20 min to shower, dress, choke down fishsticks, and reload the car.
so it's 6:30pm and we're finally on our way to the venue. (we had to call earlier and cancel our 6 pm soundcheck - just wasn't gonna happen). so we're making decent time even though we have to drive slow as molasses b/c of that damn trailer (but at least this trailer isn't wider than the car and I'm not knocking over things with it!).
ok. we get to the holland tunnel in NYC thinking we're gonna be at the venue by 8 at the latest - show starts at 9p. we pay the toll and are immediately stopped by a police officer. I'm assuming they wanna check the inside of the trailer before we go in the tunnel (they had stopped us at another nyc tunnel earlier in the day)...would you believe they were like NO TRAILERS PERMITTED IN THE HOLLAND TUNNEL!!! HOW WOULD I KNOW THIS??? WHERE ARE THE SIGNS??? ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME??? I AM LATE TO MY SHOW!!!
so the lovely police officer lady tells us to take this little detour to get back out and on track to the lincoln tunnel which would accept our trailer.
ummmmmm, we got lost.
we had GPS and we still got lost. jeanine (did I mention she was joining us?) and I were in the front seat trying the work the GPS in the car...shirley and weeds were trying to use the GPS on shirley's phone...gerry kept reminding me of how stupid I was "um Charlie, if we don't know where we're going why don't you just pull over???"...and jevin, as usual, was silent.
we were lost for 1 hour.
we finally get to the venue, unload quickly, and I go to put the car and trailer in the parking garage next door. I get all the way down the long driveway of the underground garage when the staff starts screaming at me and shaking their heads. NO TRAILERS!!!
"PLEASE". I am begging. "I am supposed to be onstage in 15 minutes and I have nowhere to put this thing!!!!"
NO DICE.
but how the heck am I gonna get this trailer out of the garage? trailers are funky and I couldn't back it up in that tight garage to save my life. so I got it stuck in there!!! thankfully, weeds came down for moral support and to help guide me. but nothing really worked. people were honking and cursing me cuz I was blocking up the whole entrance/exit to the garage and I was really just plain STUCK. I was stuck for 45 minutes.
weeds solved the day by unhitching and spinning the LOADED TRAILER around (OMG, he is super strong) allowing me to turn the car around and rehitch. JEEZ! I thought I was gonna burst into tears at any moment.
so I find a parking space on the street. only to realize that the lock I had purchased for the trailer was too big! it wouldn't fit!!!! we had so much stuff still in the trailer. it wouldn't last for 5 minutes in NYC! thankfully, weeds' hot friend, rob, saved the day by volunteering to hang outside and watch our gear while we played.
we finally got inside the venue...the sound guy was mad...our booking agent wasn't happy...AND I HAD ON NO SHOES (and worst) NO MAKEUP!!!
but at 9:45pm, we went onstage and rocked. no sleep, little food, no makeup...but none of that mattered when the band started to play.
OMG, it can only get better from here, right?
this is no way to treat a rockstar!!! I'm gonna file an official complaint. ;-)
hope to see you all soon!
love, charlie

What’s happenin’ my Superfly Friends?!?
I hope you all are well and feeling superfabulous this March! To all of you who read my letters regularly, thank you for being a part of my life. And to all newcomers, welcome!
We just wrapped our super successful residency at The Good Hurt in West LA last month. Thanks so much to everyone who came out to support the band. We made so many new fans and friends. Quite a bit of that is documented in the photo and video sections of our myspace page. Check it out when you get a chance. www.myspace.com/charliesuperfly
NEWS
There is so much to tell you this month! First, the BIGGEST NEWS is that the band will be doing an EAST COAST TOUR this May!!! YEA! YEA!! YEA!!! We are BEYOND excited about this opportunity to get on the road and visit our fans around the country. Only a few of our dates are firm right now (see below in MARK YOUR CALENDARS). But if you are anywhere near NYC, Boston, Philly, DC or Dewey Beach, DE we are expecting to see you!!!
Speaking of Dewey Beach…I practically grew up in this town that we used to call "DO ME BEACH" (it was the best after-college, summer hook-up spot EVER). I just love Dewey! And the band has been selected to play CHICKFEST there!!! Chickfest is a huge music festival of…you guessed it…bands fronted by chicks! HAHAHA. We are thrilled about this gig (especially Jon, Gerry, and Jev)! And I cannot wait to get back to my old stomping grounds…the Crusty Crudder (actually, it was the Rusty Rudder, but who cares!?), The Cork (AKA The Bottle and Cork), and the Starboard (which, btw, has the BEST Bloody Mary’s on the East Coast). Whoo-hoo!!! So yeah, if you’re within 200 miles of Dewey Beach the weekend of May 10th, get your butt over there! Make a weekend of it! There will be lots of great bands. The weather should be killer. AND it’s still pre-season so hotel rooms should be CHEAP!!!
In other news, UCLA’s Bruin Radio has been spinning our track, "Everybody’s Sexy" every Sunday night during the "I’m In a Band" show. Indie artists can get radio play based on how many requests their songs get during the show. And can I tell you? "Everybody’s Sexy" has been the most requested tune for like three weeks running now! YEA! Please help support the band by calling or IM’ing your request every Sunday. I know it sounds like a pain but we really need your support. And it literally takes 30 seconds to do.
WHO: YOU! WHAT: Request "Everybody’s Sexy" by Charlie Superfly on Bruin Radio. WHERE: You can listen online at www.uclaradio.com (but you don’t have to listen to vote) WHEN: Sundays 8-8:30pm PDT/11-11:30 pm EDT HOW: Call 310.825.9999 (they always answer within 5 rings) or AIM your request to BruinRadio (if you don’t know what AIM is you might wanna stick to the phone ;-))
So, last month we got an "accidental" review by Brooke Mason of Bitchin’ Entertainment. And what I mean by "accidental" is that Brooke was at the club to see and review another band but decided to write about us instead!!! HAHAHAHAHA. Anyway, she makes us sound like TOTAL ROCKSTARS!!! Check it out at http://www.bitchinentertainment.com/cdreviews/brooke_reviews6.html
Hey, so this is news… we have a new song up on iTunes!!! It’s called "Neurotic" (how apropos) and I wrote it with my friends Leo Mellace and Steve Catizone of Sanctum Sound. You can find it by searching under "Charlie Superfly". I really love this tune and I’m hoping to add it to the band’s set list very soon.
OOOOOOH, and before I forget…our bass player, Shirley, is gonna be on DEAL OR NO DEAL very soon!!! A friend of hers was actually "playing" the game, but Shirley was on-air as like her "support person" (or whatever they call it). Anyway, I wish we had an exact date to give you but she just taped the episode yesterday. Keep your eyes out for her! GO SHIRLEY GO!!! Oh, and p.s. she’s under contract not to give us any details of the outcome. We can hardly wait to see!!!

RANDOM MUSINGS
So, I thought I could dance.
Any of you who have ever watched my videos or seen the band live know that I looooove to bounce around onstage. I mean, I do this little step-touch move and a hip gyration or two and I swear I’m dancing! And lately, in rehearsals, I’ve been challenging the band to move more. "DANCE", I said. "DANCE!!!" And then one day, I had an epiphany! I said to myself, "I’m gonna take some dance classes and learn some new moves to teach the band!" This seemed like a great idea especially since most of my dance moves are from Club MTV circa 1992. So I decided to sign up for some beginner hip-hop classes at the local professional studio. Whoo-hoo!!!
I took this decision quite seriously. I asked around to dancer friends…got studio recommendations…printed out several class schedules…researched instructors…AND I even bought a brand new outfit that was sure to make the whole class green with envy as I busted out my smooth moves! (I see now that investing this much time in finding ONE, hour-long, commitment-free, $10, beginner’s class is probably like waaaaay anal rententive.)
So, can I just tell you??? First of all, I was about 10 minutes late to class. I got lost (even though I re-read the 2 miles worth of directions about a thousand times before I left my apartment)!!! Apparently, despite the presence of printed mapquest directions, unique landmarks and HUGE street signs, I can’t tell the difference between Santa Monica Blvd and Sunset Blvd. But THAT is another story altogether.
So I get to class. It is hot, sweaty, and the funk of 40,000 years seems to be resting here in this dark, crowded, mirrored room. I find a spot in the back and join the already-in-progress "warm-up". Well, by God, this should’ve have been my first clue!!! We were just doing some gentle, rhythmic stretching but I couldn’t seem to catch on. I couldn’t see the teacher. I couldn’t hear the teacher. And I couldn’t find the beat ANYWHERE.
The next tell-tale sign? I looked around the class and found that I was BY FAR the oldest person in the room. There didn’t seem to be anyone in that class over the age of 18 and I suddenly felt ancient! Oh, and I should mention here that the "outfit" I had sooooo carefully picked out made me look like a complete asshole. It was wrong, wrong, wrong. In white sweatpants scrunched under my knees (I thought they made my butt look cute), a white athletic top, and a navy baseball cap, I looked like a big, gangly Q-tip!!! And butt? What butt??? There was absolutely NOTHING cute about me that afternoon. However, everyone else was fabulously cute in their fatigues and various incarnations of Flashdance and Madonna (in her "Like a Virgin" phase) costumes. And as if I already didn’t feel out of place enough in this sweaty, funky, stank-assed, dark, crowded, mirrored room – the "combination" began.
For those of you (smart folks) who’ve never taken a dance class in your life - "combination" is just the term for a series of steps that make up the dance routine. The combination itself wasn’t long - maybe 45 seconds or 24 counts of 8. But let me tell you…I was lost from the GET-GO!!! And I mean LOST!!! Like the very first move? I couldn’t do it. The second move? I couldn’t do. The third move? I could almost do. Who the hell said this was a beginner’s class? I felt like Grandma Moses (in a Q-tip costume)! I mean, I literally "got" like every 10th move. And it didn’t help that the sassy-mouthed, show-off, eight-year-old girl in front of me was gliding through all the moves with video-ho accuracy and precision! WTF?
And things only got worse from there. I mean, the teacher kept coming over to my side of the room and saying "Let’s try one more time at half-speed." "Is everyone getting this?" "Are there any questions?" "Just feel the music." "Loosen up a little." All of this, while LOOKING DIRECTLY AT ME! And don’t you know…like every dance class I took through childhood…there was a "recital" at the end. No joke! After everyone (except me) had "learned" the routine, they split the class into small groups to PERFORM in front of everyone else. I wanted to sit out soooooo badly. I wanted to run out the door screaming. But I did it. I performed. I "performed" six different times - and let me tell you - time 6 was no better than time 1.
I could go into more embarrassing detail here about all the cues I missed…how I often tripped over my own feet…how I almost got knocked out by the whipping hair of the pre-pubescent, brace-faced chick in front of me…and how everyone else seemed to be singing along to this song that I had never heard before in my life. But need I say more? I already feel humiliated enough just remembering the horror of that day. Sunday March 9th, 2008 was the day I learned that I’m not really all that young anymore nor am I all that cute. That was the day I learned that my sense of fashion might be permanently askew. I learned that I am completely out of touch with today’s popular culture. And worst of all, that was the day I learned that I really can’t dance.
But whatever. I’ll keep doing my 1992 shimmy shake and dancing to the beat of my own drum for as long as there’s someone who wants to watch – even if that someone is just me in my own mirror.
KEEPIN’ IT FUNKY So that’s it for this month. If you’re on the east coast, we’ll be looking for you in May! If you’re on the west coast, we’ll be looking for you on Tax Day! And if you’re in none of the places…well…well…we’ll look for you online!
And if you get a chance this month, check out my newly published iMix on iTunes. YEA!!! I am so excited about it. I put together a collection of some of my absolute favorite songs and I’ve named it "Charlie Superfly’s Funktastic Fantasy"!!! Check it out! You can listen to snippets of all the songs and you can even buy the ones you like safely through iTunes!!! http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewIMix?id=273933218
Much love, Charlie

RANDOM MUSINGS Sooooooo I happen to be writing to you today from the lovely Tahitian island of Taha'a. It is absolutely beautiful here…although it has pretty much poured buckets every day since I got here. But today, by chance, is sunny and glorious...just like every postcard you've ever seen of the South Pacific! So yeah, the rain…it's hurricane style (they call them cyclones here). Yesterday we were having lunch at our resort when yet another storm (the third of the day) started to roll in. At first the sky got crazy dark, then the wind started whipping, the sea got angry and then the heavens opened up! Luckily, the café had these shades that they could lower via remote control to protect everyone from the elements. UNLUCKILY, the controllers decided to go haywire at that particular moment and the shades just started going up and down willy-nilly!!! Needless to say, I was sandblasted, windblown and soaked within minutes. Most folks just hunkered down and tried to get through it. Some even found the "adventure" amusing. But I, being the consummate New Yorker, was like "'F' this. I am not gonna eat out here in the cold and rain!" I literally needed goggles to see the food on my plate! So I ran over to the manager and politely but firmly told him that I was very uncomfortable and that I wanted him to have my food sent to my room. He agreed just as the worst of the storm hit…torrents of water…40-50 mph winds…and coconuts falling off trees left and right! But I figured, I'm either gonna get wet here in the café and eat my chicken with a side of sand. OR I can make a run for it, get soaked, but dry off and eat my chicken (sans sand) in the comfort of my little room while enjoying a nice bottle of wine (btw, my wine glass blew off the table at the restaurant). So I started running!!! But stupid me, I forgot how slippery 70s style flip-flops can be on a wet wood deck! I had not made it 20 feet before my feet slid out from under me, my world went topsy-turvy and I landed flat on my ass (and elbow) in front of EVERYONE!!! OMG, I was in such pain, but what could I do??? The manager came running out in the rain to help me. But once again, my NYC self said "'F' this. I WILL get to my room and eat in peace if it kills me!" So I hobbled up, removed my zories, and limped/ran the remaining 500 yards to my hut – soaking, bleeding, hurting, BUT TRIUMPHANT!!!! HA!!! And I have to tell you; chicken has never tasted soooooo good. Come to find out it goes great with a little slice of humble pie. ;-)
Hmmmm. So prior to the ass-bashing incident, I met the most AMAZING man here in French Polynesia. We were on the island of Bora Bora and had signed up for this very difficult hike to the top of the second highest point, Mt. Pahia (apparently, the highest point, Mt. Otemanu, is all volcanic rock and too soft to climb). Anyway, the "hike" got cancelled because all the rain had made the trek "impossible". So our hiking guide offered us a "moderate" hike instead. P-U!!! Miss Charlie was not happy. Our guide's name was Tama and the whole way to our first stop I kept telling him that I wanted a good strong hike that would get my heart rate up and that I could handle a little slip and slide and blah blah blah. Tama assured me I would enjoy the hours we were about to spend together but I immediately started rolling my eyes when I found that…A) our "hike" was through the freakin' JUNGLE…B) it was "the rainy season" in said jungle and we were all going to be instantly covered in mosquitoes the moment we set foot inside…and C) that the "hike" wasn't about exercise AT ALL but a damn history lesson!!! Tama was not an aerobics teacher...he was an ARCHEOLIGIST!!! Well, I was pissed! AND I was wearing little gym shorts and a tank top! Can you picture it??? We literally had to use a MACHETE to get through this fucking place! It was a jungle!!! A REAL JUNGLE!!! Now what self-respecting New Yorker do you know hangs out in an f'ing jungle that's not concrete??? WTF???
A Moroccan from France, Tama was fascinated by the island of Bora Bora at a young age and studied archeology, botany, history, Tahitian languages, and a bunch of other stuff before coming to the island about 2 years ago. He told us of the rich culture of the Tahitian and the Bora Boran people that dates back thousands and thousands of years. And it's a history that 99% of the native population doesn't even know because it was completely wiped out by the missionaries who came to "convert" them hundreds of years ago. Tama took our group deep into the mountain/jungle where the natives still believe it is taboo (the missionaries told them this) to go. All around there were signs warning us not to enter the jungle. But Tama led the way and we macheteed our way through. OMG, it was literally like being on "Survivor". Tama taught us how to make bowls from leaves, and rope from tree bark. I also learned which trees the ancients made their canoes from. I ate fresh mango, passion fruit, coconut, grapefruit, bananas and star fruit right off the muddy jungle floor. I have NEVER tasted anything so wonderful and fresh in my life. And since the native people won't go into the jungle to harvest the fruit, it's just like freakin' Whole Foods up in there with ripe fresh fruit everywhere you step. I picked ginger flowers and learned how the ancients used them for shampoo. I ate raw ginger root still covered in jungle mud. I chopped down - well, actually Tama chopped down - palm leaves and we ate hearts of palm right there. I learned to identify the "snake vine" and how to get water from it (it just pours right out!!! - yummy). I can identify sugar cane and coffee that was planted in the jungle by the ancient Bora Borans. And I can "read" the vegetation and the topography of the land to locate ancient and undiscovered settlements/villages. OMG, I can't even begin to tell you all the stuff I learned that day. I know enough now to actually survive in that jungle for weeks at a time!!! WTF??? Who knew that your girl, Charlie, was NATURE GIRL??? And you know what??? I loved it! I also saw ancient burial grounds, temples, the Queen of Bora Bora's birthing rock and bathing pool. I fell completely in love with the beautiful (but lost) culture of my Tahitian brothers and sisters. Oh and btw, the "hike" kicked my ass. Six hours through the jungle with a machete…grass and weeds as high as my eye, swarms of mosquitoes on the constant attack (one guy was bitten so badly that he was oozing blood), trudging through streams and swamps with water up to my knees! And I can't wait to go back and do it all again. Apparently, Tama is starting his own village in the jungle where folks can come and camp for days at a time. I'm gonna be the first to sign up!!!
NA-NAs So if you didn't know, "Na-Na" is Tahitian for "goodbye". It's been fun chatting with you but I'm gonna go back to my sipping my pina coloda on my chaise lounge overlooking the great blue sea. This may be the last sunny day I get here in Paradise. See you all in February!!! (brrrrrrrr)
Much love, Charlie

Hello my friends!
I say this every time but…I HAVE SO MUCH TO TELL YOU!!!
First, if you don't already have your signed copy of my cd, "Everybody's Sexy" log on to www.charliesuperfly.com and hook yourself up! Couldn't you use a little SEXY under the tree this year? I know I could baby. BRING IT! Order yours by 12/20/07 and get it in time for the holidays!!!
Second, our last show of 2007 is gonna be this Friday in LA. If you're around, come on down! The band is super tight and SUPERFLY. And we've been rehearsing our little hearts out just for you!!!
FRIDAY DEC 14th @ 9:15pm CLUB GOOD HURT 12249 Venice Blvd West LA, CA 90046 310.390.1076
So I gotta tell you, our last gig was at The Gig in Hollywood AND THIS MAY BE TOTALLY LAME and cheesy but…they put my name on the marquis outside of the club and when I drove by and saw it my heart skipped a beat! I saw it the day before the show – big as day – CHARLIE SUPERFLY!!! Whoo-hoo! I was like "OMG, my name is in lights!" Well, not quite…but close.
And speaking of good feelings…a few weeks ago I got to walk the red carpet at the ArcLight theatre in Hollywood because two of my songs were being featured in the film, "The Mirror", that was premiering there. (I think I mentioned this to you in my last newsletter). Well anyway, my strut down the carpet was fantastic AND I got to meet Kelly LeBroc (star of the film and my teenage idol) in the ladies room! HAHAHAHA!!! She was absolutely gorgeous in person. Yea Kelly! So can I just tell you??? My girl, Lisa D., and I were sitting there watching the film and when my songs came on I almost jumped out of my f'ing seat from excitement!!! Poor Lisa D.. I was squeezing her hand so hard I nearly broke it off! But here's the funny thing: each time one of my songs played, I didn't recognize it at first. I just sat there like a dummy thinking, "Hmmm. That song sounds familiar." AND THEN WHEN I HEARD MY VOICE I was like "OMG! OMG! OMG! That's meeeeeeeeeee!!!" And at the end of the film, when the credits were rolling, my name came up - larger than life - across the screen. The theatre was silent and then Lisa D. started clapping. AND THEN A BUNCH OF PEOPLE STARTED CLAPPING!!!! And I think I actually shed a tear.
Hmmmmm. What's next? Oh, I was nominated for an LA Music Award this year in the category of "best vocal" for my single, "Everybody's Sexy". Whoo-hoo!!! I didn't win. But then again, "it's an honor just to be nominated", right? – HA!
Oh and here's something super exciting…the other week in LA I had a meeting with David Banner – a huge rap producer/artist/actor guy. Sadly, I know nothing about rap and hip/hop. So you can imagine how embarrassed I was to admit to this HUGE SUPERSTAR that I had absolutely no idea who he was! I wanted to die. But I had to be honest. Your girl, Charlie, is no faker! I had, however, checked out some of his tunes on MySpace right before I went into the meeting. And when I told him that I liked the song he did with Akon called "9 MM", he promptly told me that he could give an "F" if anyone liked his music or not! HAHAHAHA!!! Hysterical. Anyway, DB was one cool and righteous cat. I learned a lot in our brief time together like…
1 – how men are punks cuz "they are raised by bitches" 2 – and how Oprah and Al Sharpton are phonies 3 – and how it's all about hundred dollar bills ya'll!
So yeah, it's funny cuz I was COMPLETELY out of my element with this man but I actually adored him. I also felt like a lot of the stuff he said sounded kinda true although the way he said it mighta been kinda harsh. He left me with a lot to think about (and the hope that one day we might work together). I told him my goal was to spread peace, love, and laughter throughout the world. I think he thought I was nuts. Check him out when you get a chance!
Oh so a few weeks ago I went to the Howard Stern "Killers of Comedy" shows in LA and San Diego. And I had the best time! Lucky me, I got to hang out and watch the show from backstage AND I got to meet all the talented comics on the tour like STSB, Shuli, The Rev. Bob Levy, and Jim Florentine. It was also a blast to meet and hang with all the Stern show fans that came out! I can't wait to do it again.
That reminds me…tonight is Lisa G's "Annual Cookie Party" (if you're not a Stern fan, suffice it to say that Lisa G. is part of the show) and I am going. I'm excited to see Lisa. I'm even baking cookies - 100% organic, whole wheat, white chocolate, cranberry and walnut!!! Does that sound edible??? I'm not really a cook. In fact, I've already burned 2 batches – but I still have an hour or two to get it right! HAHAHAHA! Meanwhile, I am a little nervous about the party (which will be broadcast LIVE on Sirius channel 101) because every time my name comes up in relation to the Stern show there is ALWAYS DRAMA. WTF???
I think that's it from me – your resident drama mama!!! I hope you all have a wonderful, happy, and healthy holiday season!!!
Much love, C$ (my new, David Banner inspired moniker)
