Even compared to other brawlers, which don't exactly exercise your brain noodle to begin with, The Combatribes is as shallow as a half-deflated kiddie pool. But there aren't too many other games out there where you can headbutt groups of creepy killer clowns, and who wouldn't want to do that?

Roy Cheung is pretty much ubiquitous with Triad movies, having appeared in dozens of them, and after seeing his work here, you can see why. Simply put, Cheung turns Long from your standard "dai lo" into one of the coolest bastards you're ever gonna see in a gangster movie. It's on the strength of his performance, and the film's strong finish, that makes Mongkok Story something more than the usual Triad movie.

The original Inspector Wears Skirts wasn't a great movie by any stretch of the imagination. Hell, it barely qualifies as an average entry in the girls-with-guns genre. But at least it delivered a small bit of decent action, which its' sequel can't do, instead fully assaulting the viewer with awful attempts at comedy that will have you wondering why you even started the DVD in the first place.

One of the most critically-lauded releases to come out of Hong Kong in the past couple of years, and the recipient of two Hong Kong Film Awards, director Dante Lam's Beast Stalker is indeed a good cop suspense/drama mixed with a bit of action. But looking upon the movie about a year after its' initial release, it appears that this film may have been a bit over-hyped by fans and critics hungry for quality Hong Kong pictures, which are unfortunately becoming an endangered species in this day and age.

Rushed out to premiere in Hong Kong cinemas in time for the 1997 handover to China, 97 Aces Go Places (which is a sequel to the previous Aces Go Places movies in name only) suffers from many of the problems you would expect from a slap-dash production, ending up in a very uneven product. It's enjoyable enough (at least in a dopey way) at times, but many segments will have you reaching for the Excedrin or a cold beer to help dull the pain.

Despite having two of the most experienced veterans in the cop drama genre with Danny Lee and Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Blue Lightning fails to become anything more than an average release. Perhaps it is because the stars are so familiar with this type of material that the movie comes off as a bit limp, because most everyone involved looks more than a little bored with the proceedings -- and the viewer sitting through this film will probably be as well.

An exclusive downloadable game on the Playstation Network, Revenge of the Wounded Dragons was originally promoted as a straight-forward beat-em-up, which to this reviewer, is not a bad thing at all. With the addition of platforming and puzzle elements, the final product is a bit of a surprise. Thankfully, it ends up being a pleasant one.

Chai Lai subscribes to the old tried-and-true formula of having hot babes kicking ass. But, of course, since this is a Thai release, there's more than a dash of wackiness thrown into the mix. Let's put it this way: how many other action movies can you think of that feature a scuffle between a transvestite and a midget, and another scene featuring a little girl wasting a platoon of bad guys with a grenade launcher and M-60?

During the 1990's, Wong Jing and Stephen Chow teamed together in a series of hits, such as God of Gamblers II and Royal Tramp. Their last collaboration came in 1999 with The Tricky Master. While it took in a respectable amount of money at the box office and it's not a bad film per se, it is easy to see by the on-screen results that the partnership ended at just the right time for everyone involved.

Producer, writer, and director Wong Jing mashes up Fight Club with a high school comedy and a dash of video game beat-em-ups in My School Mate, the Barbarian, a film that manages to be entertaining (albeit in a very brainless way) despite a lack of originality and more than a bit of laziness in the script department.
