Current mood:  grateful

I hope you all haven't given up on me! These last few months have been so
crazy. As you know, I finally met NKOTB in November. I'm still on Cloud
9 from that experience! December was recovering from the NK-flu (thanks
guys!) and the holidays, and in January I lost my grandfather who I was
very close to. February I found out my company is closing down and I
will be laid off in April. That's also when NKOTB started announcing
more tour dates... and not only are there no shows within 700 miles of
my home, but there is no way I can afford to travel this time.

I have been SOOOO freaking blessed in all areas of my life, and
especially NKOTB-wise. I have been trying not to be bummed to miss out
on this tour, but I find that I still am. I feel so selfish for not
being completely satisfied with seeing NKOTB once (well twice if you
count when I was 11). So many people are not lucky enough to even see
one show, let alone see a show, do a Meet & Greet, AND bump into
Jon at the Mall in a totally different country! But I guess that's what
the guys do to me... I just can't get enough!! I'm so proud of them and
their energy is infectious.

I thought that being here would make it feel worse, but it's really not.
I miss my friends!! I'm sorry to those of you I have been less of a
friend to... I hope you can understand and forgive me.

Thanks to everyone who has been patiently waiting for my story.  I haven't been this sick in ages!  I came down with it as soon as we got home and it's only now starting to go away.  My voice still craps out.. I haven't had my voice completely back since before the show!  We've figured out it's probably from Jordan or Donnie (probably D!) because my sister never got close to them and she's still healthy.  So is my mom.  NKOTB-itis!

NEW KIDS EVE

So it was the night before the show, New Kids Eve as I call it (had been looking forward to New Kids Day for months!).  My sister and I couldn't believe our luck, and just how full the day had already been.  We'd had two flights, flew to another country, navigated a new city, and ran into Jonathan Knight all in one day and it was only 6pm!  We were at the mall after meeting Jon and shopping in a daze for clothes for the concert.  It was almost like it didn't matter what I wore anymore... I just met Jon!!

We left the mall and found our way back to our hotel (thanks to Hertz for the nifty map!).  We were probably no more than a couple blocks from our hotel at the front of the line at a red light.  It was just barely sprinkling/snowing.  Suddenly I noticed a huge tour bus turning onto my street right in front of me.  I freaked!

"OMG!!!! THAT'S IT!  THAT'S THEIR BUS!!" I shrieked and began hitting my sister violently on the shoulder (poor thing, I did this a LOT over the trip).  I couldn't believe our luck!

The light turned green and I suddenly found myself in a car sitting behind the Knight Brother's tour bus!  I busted out my camera and took a couple pics, but left the flash off.  I remembered Jon's blog and didn't want to blind anyone, be rude or even really be seen.  There was room to swoop next to the bus at the light, but I really just wanted to stay incognito and see where they were headed.  We started blasting The Block for atmosphere.  LOL :)

After a few turns and running a red light (on my part, oopsie!) we found them parking in the middle of a small, deserted street... deserted except for about 5 other tour buses!  Woot! The motherload!  This wasn't their hotel though.  Hmmm!

We decided not to be too crazy and parked around the block where we could still see them from afar.  There I saw the door open and Jordan was getting out!  OMG!  I've been a Jordan girl for 20 years.  He has my heart!  My sister and I debated for a few minutes about what to do.  Do we leave them alone or try to talk to them?

Then we saw them getting back in the bus! No! Was it us?  Did they spot us?  The bus then pulled away.  Aww!  We decided to head back to our hotel.  At another red light I realized the hotel they were staying at was right in front of us!  (I found out where from some friends I was in contact with-woohoo!) We got out the camera for a few more pics and saw them getting out as we drove by.  Ahhhh!  What a gorgeous sight.

(See the tour bus pulling out onto the street? ;) )

New Kids Eve ended with me txting friends who were inside the hotel and had eaten near Jordan and Jon (OMG I was dying to be there!!) and gotten a few pics.  I was so happy with my own experience, I could not ask for anymore.  Besides, the next night was the SHOW!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NEW KIDS DAY!!
I woke up on New Kids Day around 8 in the morning.  It was chilly in Edmonton (about 0 degrees Celsius the whole time).  Since the hotel NKOTB was staying at was only about 6 blocks away from ours, my mom and I decided to take a walk down there and check it out.  It's a beautiful building.  After taking a few pics and ducking in and out of the lobby briefly (no sitings this time!) we went back to our hotel.  I was smart enough to schedule us a massage so I could have a chance to relax before the mayhem began!
We then had lunch, then it was time to get ready!  I felt the butterflies coming.  It was really happening!  We took a couple hours to get ready and my friends were txting me from the stadium.  Jordan just came out!  Joe's bus had arrived!  There wasn't a moment to lose.  Time to go!
We met our friends (love you Lisa!) at Rexall Place and all got acquainted.  I managed to get a couple far away shots of the guys going to and from their buses.  Soon we lined up for the Meet & Greet.  It was freezing!  But so worth it.
(A far away view of Joe walking from his bus into Rexall Place.  I didn't have time to get a better pic!)
We finally got inside, got our merchandise, tickets (7th row!!!!!), and assigned my group.  I got group E! 5th group, OMG!  The excitement was building. We grabbed a table and a drink. We saw Zach (Robo was not there) who told us the rules. At our table, we talked about how we'd all share and not "hog" any of the guys to ourselves.  We were equal opportunity huggers!  Plus, we knew time was SHORT and we'd have to be quick.
Not long after that I heard "OK GROUPS D AND E, LINE UP!"  I totally forgot to check my hair or anything, we just went running!  Can't miss this now!  I remember holding hands and linking arms with my sister and new friends as we approached the curtained off area.  We heard the other giggling group inside and we all suddenly forgot our names or what we were going to say.  All we knew was this was it!  NKOTB was on the other side of that curtain.
The girls started spilling out of the other side, meaning it was our turn!  I remember someone opened the curtain and said "Ok ladies, don't be shy!"  OMG OMG OMG!
I was in the back of my group, and we all approached the guys at the same time.  I remember letting the other "Jordan Girl" in my group go in front of me.  She was so sweet and I didn't want to trample on the poor girl (also 7mos preg).  I guess she hugged Jordan while I waited.  My sister said she looked over then and Jordan was alone so she had to nudge me closer to him!
"I came all the way from Oregon to tell you that I think you have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard!"
I wish I had said something more original, but it just came out.  I remember that he bent down closer to me to hear me better.  I can only assume he said something like "Thanks" and hugged me, because I wouldn't have left his side without a hug!  But I honestly don't remember it.  It must have just been pure shock.
I don't know how the convo ended but I remember looking over and seeing my sister talking to Joey.  Yay!  I walked over and she was telling him about our Oregon to Edmonton adventure after they canceled the Portland show (stopping briefly to introduce me).  Joe looked so interested!  I remember him most clearly for some reason.  I just remember him looking at us so intently and saying "oh I'm sorry!"  We told him we understood and it was cool.  My sister made him blush by telling me "you're right, he really DOES have gorgeous eyes!"  :)
I turned around and there was Jon.  I hugged him and said "Hey Jon!  I met you at the mall yesterday."
"Oh yeah!  You know that mall was so huge and I didn't even buy anything!"  Or something to that effect.
That's when I heard "Picture Time!!"  S**t!! Time was running out!  I spun around to look for Jordan.  We'd all picked our places beforehand.  This is when I get a little embarrassed.  I'm usually not like this AT ALL, but I guess Jordan brings out the aggressive woman in me!! LOL  I noticed the other Jordan Girl on his left, and my friend Lisa on his right.  My brain clicked "she's a Donnie girl so maybe she won't care!"  I went for it.  I slithered myself in between her and Jordan.  I recall her saying it was no problem (or do I?  LOL)  Jordan goes "well we can get the first with her and the next with you" to Lisa.  I can't believe my mouth, out came "it's okay.  She know's I'm a Jordan Girl."  OMG!!!
Jordan looked at Donnie and told him the girl on Donnie's arm is the girl he told him about from last night (one of my friends that met them at their hotel).
"See dawg?!" CLICK! I was screaming in my head OMG look forward Jordan! LOL
(I'm the one in red)
CLICK!  The 2nd picture was taken.  I have no idea if I said anything else to Jordan.  I just knew I needed two more hugs.  I marched right over to Donnie where a girl was on each arm and I said "I came all the way from Oregon for my Donnie Hug" (I was supposed to say Face Time!  But it worked).  I wrapped my arms around his waist and he wrapped his around my neck for a Donnie hug that I wish I could remember more.  Shock again I guess!
On the way out, Danny was holding open the curtain.  Score!  I told him how far we'd come and how much we loved them.  He said sorry too, and probably thanks or I love you too or something.  It was sweet.  And with that, it was over.  We all walked out with a dazed but totally content look on our faces.
We hung out at the pre-party for a bit longer.  They had finger foods and drinks for us.  Soon we heard screaming from the other end of the room.  We ran over there and Donnie and Joe were in a roped off area signing autographs.  My sister and I grabbed our VIP passes from around our necks and got over near Donnie.  He was signing furiously and answering fans.  I think Joe took off before I could see him.  I reached my pass over toward Donnie and he signed it.  Yay!  I turned around and there was my sister.  I grabbed hers and reached over about 3 rows of fans back toward Donnie. Suddenly I blurted out "Donnie I got my passport for you!!"  At that moment, Donnie looked up at us, winked and said "I know you did baby."  SWOOOOOON!!!!  He signed it and I about fainted.
Much of my Meet & Greet story had to be re-confirmed to me later on.  Thank God my sister was there!  It's amazing, no matter how many months I'd spent planning and telling myself to try to remember everything, I just couldn't handle it.  I'm proud of myself for holding it together as far as nerves go.  I didn't cry or freeze up at all like I was afraid I'd do.
The guys are so easy going, it's great!
Category: Life
I landed at Edmonton International Airport at about 11am local time.  One hour ahead of west coast time.  My mom and sister and I had started our morning at 3:30am in Portland, Oregon.  I live a few hours away on the coast (literally next to the ocean) so we got a room next to the Portland Airport because our flight took off bright and early at 6am.  Or should I say dark and early!
We found our baggage, got our rental car and off we were with a map of Edmonton and dreams of the NKOTB concert the next day.  We giggled as I drove 100 down the freeway on a slightly icy road.  100 kilometers per hour, not miles per hour!  ;)
We checked into our hotel, then hungrily drove around the city looking for a restaurant that caught our attention. After learning to navigate around pedestrians and one way streets, we found an awesome Italian cafe downtown.
After one of the best lunches I've ever had in my life, we asked the waitress where the mall was.  We still needed to grab a shirt and a few accessories for show.  She suggested the West Edmonton Mall, which is the 4th largest mall in the world and the biggest in North America.  After dropping my mom off back at the hotel to rest, my sister and I found it easily.  This mall was amazing.  It stretches something like 8 city blocks and has an amusement park, water park, full size pirate ship, and about a billion shops.  There were people everywhere.  You could tell who were tourists, they were taking pictures of everything (like us!)!
We finally located a bathroom (washroom in canada, eh!) and started looking in a few shops.  We found a small one called American Apparel started looking around.  I noticed a small group of people posing for a picture, but I just thought more tourists.  Suddenly my sister whips around and whispers to me with her eyes wide "IS THAT WHO I THINK IT IS????"
I was about ready to prove my sometimes over dramatic (love you Toddie!) sister wrong when she stepped aside and revealed one of the most amazing sights I'd ever seen.  There looking through a clothing rack was none other than Jonathan Knight himself.  I froze and then walked straight out of the store and to the nearby bench.  My sister followed, slightly annoyed.  I didn't want to bother him but I had to meet him!  How could I let this opportunity pass by after traveling all the way from Oregon to Canada just to meet them?
"Should we wait till he comes out?" I asked my sister.
"No, that might take too long!  Let's just go in and just politely ask.  I'll do it!"
I was so glad she said that!  She is always down to do the scary things for me.
We walked back into the store and stood next to Jon who was talking to someone or looking at some clothes or something.  The salesgirls were giggling at us, but I didn't care.  This was Jon Knight!!  I've loved NKOTB for 20 years and have never met any of them before.  What were the chances I'd see any of them just randomly in the mall?
"Jonathan?" my sister asked behind him.  He didn't hear her.  She tapped him on the shoulder and asked again, quietly but determined.
Jon spun around and there he was.  OMG!
"Can we get a picture with you?" she asked him.
"Sure," he replies and looks around for someone to take it.  The girl he was with volunteered and we put our arms around his waist.   I remained quiet and calm on the outside and smiled for the picture but on the inside I was dying!  OMG JON KNIGHT HAS HIS ARM WRAPPED AROUND ME AND I HAVE MINE AROUND HIM! OMG! OMG OMG OMG! He smelled like the green spearmint gum he was chewing.  He looked so cute with his scarf and his 5 o'clock shadow.  I wondered if he would have it for the show the next night.
The girl taking the picture said the first one came out blurry and wanted to take another one.  FINE BY ME!  Ahhh, a few more stolen moments in his embrace.  :)
(below left to right: me, Jon, my sister)
After that, my sister told Jon that we came from Oregon to see the show tomorrow.  I can't remember word for word, but I think he said something like wow,thanks.  We thanked him for the picture and said we'd see him tomorrow.  Then we left the store and I just about started hyperventilating!
We accidentally came across him twice more during that shopping trip, in fact my sister and Jon almost tripped over each other when she was coming out of a store.  Shopping was almost impossible after that.  I couldn't concentrate!
What an experience!! It's so amazing that after having my Portland show canceled and getting tickets last minute to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, I randomly ran into Jon in the biggest mall in North America!
It was a beyond amazing trip and this was just the beginning.  More blogs to come!! I still have so much more to tell you!  Including the Meet & Greet, getting Donnie's autograph, and the show.  Stay tuned!
New Kids on the Block to reunite
Band will perform first live concert since 1994 on the TODAY Show plaza
By Mike Celezic
TODAY
They’re no longer kids, and the block they’ll be on is actually Rockefeller Plaza. But for the first time in 14 years, The New Kids On The Block will be reunited Friday on TODAY.
The band will return to TODAY on May 16 to perform their first live concert since 1994 as part of TODAY’s summer concert series on the Plaza.
The reunion comes 22 years after the band was formed in Boston and 20 years after the debut of their breakthrough album, "Hanging Tough," rocketed Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood and Jordan and Jonathan Knight to stardom. Over the next six years, they sold more than 70 million albums and made hundreds of millions of dollars.
Wahlberg said he was persuaded to get back together with his former bandmates — Joey McIntyre, brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood — when they decided to record new music. Wahlberg said he wrote 80 percent of the new material with McIntyre and Jordan Knight.
"I had no interest going out on a nostalgia tour and singing the same material," said Wahlberg, 38.
But he added: "We absolutely will do the old songs for sure."
Producer Maurice Starr formed the group in Boston in the 1980s, hoping to recreate the success he had with another teen group from Boston, New Edition.
At the height of their popularity, New Kids sold out world tours, marketed millions of dollars in merchandise and spawned a Saturday morning cartoon.
No longer boys and with their music fallen out of favor, the group disbanded in 1994 and its members scattered off to separate careers. Jonathan Knight went into real estate, his brother Jordan continued a solo singing career and had a platinum single, "Give It to You."
McIntyre also went solo and got into acting, landing a regular role on "Boston Public" and taking a turn on "Dancing with the Stars."
Wood went back to Boston, started a record label, and continued to sing. Wahlberg became an actor, a career path that had been blazed by his brother Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg.
