Velkommen til politistaten Danmark

Some very frightening news, so the word needs to be spread.

Current mood:  sad

Dear friends and fans,

This is probably the saddest announcement I would have to make in a long time, but there is no other way to put it than saying it as straightforward as it is: Everpure is no more. I finally decided to put a full stop on a story that went on for about 15 years now. It’s been amazing times – creative, inspiring, and I learned a lot about making music, myself and not least the environment that I’d interact with all the time.

However, in the recent past, it became less fun, and more difficult to achieve well-working agreements with the rest of the band; both regarding commitments and artistic issues. And all that to a level that I don’t bother taking any further.

I really had wonderful days with all these incarnations of Everpure – the acoustic duo with Mole, the luxury artist trio including HaWe, my solo times during the Surgery By Numbers period (thank you, Peter, for that great title!), and of course playing with Beritt and Jonas at Copenhagen’s very own and most cool venue Lille Vega, being the most recent highlight. It has been a wonderful journey through so many musical styles and genres – all from singer/songwriter through indie rock to trip-hop inspired electronica – that this band might cover a quite extraordinary back catalog. And I will keep that in my heart forever.

But right now, my heart stopped beating for Everpure, and the book has to be closed to give space for a new book to be opened. I’m sure, all of us will find a new musical home eventually – just like Mole did with her band The Newts. So, stay tuned with Beritt, Jonas and myself at the various places on the web. And enjoy the past by listening to those songs and watching those videos that will remain on the never-forgetting internet.

Thank you very much to all of you.

I just purchased a wonderful – beautiful – new instrument. This time it’s nothing about computers or electronic devices at all. Instead, I found something on eBay that I had on my wishlist ever since I thought about guitars: A Fender Japan ‘66 Reissue Jazzmaster Left Hand.

Actually, it’s only Fender Japan, who build those classic models in left hand editions. Fender USA does not seem to think it’s necessary to serve those musicians – unless you’re Kurt Cobain or so… Anyway, here she is – and I can already confirm that she sounds great too!

Isn’t she beautiful?

Finally, here is our first live video, recorded at our second concert this year. We played Lille Vega in Copenhagen at the Emergenza Festival semi finals, where we made a fourth place (out of eight), which was good, but not good enough to go further in the contest.
Anyway, here is the full 5 songs concert for you, so please enjoy!

So, this is maybe the first "official" Everpure video. Actually, I would rather consider it being a first attempt in home movie production. Or so. Anyway, the footage has been done with a small digital compact camera on a wonderful late summer day in Gribskov, a beautiful forest in the north of Copenhagen, and the end scene shows the coast line at Nivå beach.

Enjoy!

Troels Abrahamsen, whose tremendous album WHT I have praised elsewhere on my blog, has recently submitted the vocal track of the song End Scene from that album for free download and encouraged people to remix him. The article in his blog is here.
This is not only very kind and generous, especially when considering the fact that he has released that track under a Creative Commons license, but also a great opportunity, because the song itself is a great tune. You can listen to the original version here.
I found myself thinking over Troels’ sound and style quite a couple of times when making my own music, and here is my chance to contribute with a new angle to his work. That is amazing! So, I did a remix. Sort of. It’s probably rather what you’d call bastard pop. I had this idea last night – right before I fell asleep, and tried it earlier this evening, and it seemed to work quite well. I took one of my own songs (Untitled 6, which I wrote in March/April 2008, being inspired by Portishead’s concert in KB Hallen), and put it together with Troels’ vocals. And this is what it turned out to be:

I just stumbled over this great video today. It's an "old" song, Underworld's Jumbo from 1999 from the album Beaucoup Fish. It's probably one of the best techno songs ever. Focus on: song. Enjoy it here: Underworld - Jumbo

Dear friends,

this headline is a German idiom that matches so perfectly that I had to use it. It means "May month renews everything" - or so. I guess, you get the point.

You haven't heard much from us since we played two wonderful concerts in February and March here in Copenhagen. We did not go further in the Emergenza band contest, but that doesn't really matter any more. Of course, we felt somewhat disappointed, but we still learned a lot from the last couple of months' work.

It was wonderful to play with Karen, Mads and Jonas, hear their feedback and opinions, rock that container that was our rehearsal room, and get out on some of Copenhagen's finest and not least coolest stages and play our songs!

Now, we had a few weeks of laying back, taking a deep breath and thinking about what to do and how to do it. Beritt and I had some talks about where to go, and fortunately, we did not argue about one thing: We're going to play live again! And we even agree that we want to do so as soon as possible. However, we need to do something else next time. And that will take some time to figure out.

Until then, enjoy the pictures from our live shows at Stengade 30 and Lille Vega. For those who have been there, it may raise some memories. For those who couldn't make it there: That's why we told you to buy tickets in good time! There is some video footage on the way too, but I need a bit more time to cut it all together..

Next good news (and an important change too): Jonas is now not only our live drummer, but he agreed to become an "official", full member of the band. A very warm welcome, Jonas! We're so much looking forward to playing with you live, creating more tunes, and making our songs shine even brighter with your input to them. This is going to be really exciting!

We're going to use some time on technical stuff, figuring out how we want to play live and present our songs to you. But we're also working on new tunes, and I'm sure you'll get to hear some of those quite soon. In the meantime, listen to ten songs in our player. If you like, turn the music up and play it loud!

All the best, and have a wonderful spring!

Henry

Dear friends,
It has been a great pleasure to play live at Stengade 30 and Lille Vega, receiving your applause and getting your support and wonderful feedback. However, we have not been voted to continue in the Emergenza contest this time, so we'll save those precious memories in our minds, and may learn one or another lesson from those fantastic shows.
We had a lot of fun while rehearsing and I hope, you had the same fun when seeing us on stage and hearing us playing that music. We will of course go on, and I'm sure there will be more concerts soon. So, stay tuned with us to hear more music, and see some pictures and movie clips from those concerts, which we will upload during the next days.
Once again, thank you very much - we really appreciate your support!
All the best, Henry
