Our new CD, "Saratoga Romance" is now available! You can purchase the album on our website here through PayPal or you can wait until it is available through CD Baby, I-Tunes, Amazon & other stores. We will let you know when it is available through these other outlets. The track list includes Brian Boru's March II, Silkie, The Fountain (an original by member Jeff Belding), Bonny Portmore, Skippin' Kiersten (an original by member Jim Lestrange), Saratoga Romance (an original waltz by member Jeff Belding), Wind in the Willows (a song by contemporary UK folk singer/songwriter, Alan Bell), Far Away (an instrumental by Peter Jung of Hudson, NY), Silver Dagger, Miss Noble (a Turlough O'Carolan instrumental), The Water is Wide, LaRue's Lament (written by members' Jim Lestrange and Lise Winne) and Living to Eternity (written by members Jeff Belding and Lise Winne). Half of the album is made up of Celtic tunes and instrumentals, thus the cover design with Celtic knots in the border. The rest are traditional pieces, 2 covers and songs written by band members. 2 of the songs were written about Saratoga: The Fountain (inspired by the fountains from Saratoga Springs, NY where there are a lot of ornate fountains throughout the city and beyond... many of the fountains were created during the Victorian era... the native Americans and the Victorians believed the water of Saratoga had healing powers as it came deep within the earth and each had its own taste) and Saratoga Romance (a waltz inspired by Saratoga and the Dance Flurry Festival where we first formed the band). The recording was done simply, without protools, performer or auto-tune or other cutting edge studio "tricks". We hope you enjoy the new tracks on the site. They are from the album.

Yippie! Our new CD is slated to be out by September 28!
The primary focus is on Celtic music performed with Lise's beautiful vocals and hammered dulcimer, violins, viola, guitars and basses with an occassional Irish whistle thrown in. We hope to have some of the songs posted here in early September and a link for purchase.
We will let you know more details when the CD is released.

Bairbre's book, "The Keeper of the Crock of Gold" was presented to Barack Obama today (St. Patty's Day). She is very thrilled, of course! And so are we. Full story here! As some of you know, Saratoga Faire member Frank performs with Bairbre & member Jim manages Bairbre's website. And we all move about in the Celtic circle. Good going, Bairbre! As for us & our CD, yes, we are almost finished.

This blog has nothing to do with us; it has to do with a local author who made use of some of our local musicians:
Author, James Howard Kunstler, recently wrote a book called World Made By Hand. It is about a carpenter/fiddler who is living in a post oil age world. The lights have gone out & there is no more motorized transporation & no available rubber for bicycle tires, so transporation is by horse. Almost everyone grows food, even if just minimally in their backyards. It is a novel set in the future. Anyway, Ed Lowman, a real life carpenter & fiddler from the Saratoga Springs area "stars" in the trailer. To see it go to: http://www.worldmadebyhand.com/.
The music on some of the tracks on the website also features Ed Lowman with John Kirk & Trish Miller, some of our friends (real life & MYSPACE if you care to check them out: http://www.myspace.com/kirkfiddle).
Anyway, we thought it was definitely cool to see Ed in the trailer!

Yes, 3 of us belong to The Spirites Consort. We now use the hammered dulcimer in that band too.
