Hi Friends - -

Due to popular demand, I have finally finally finally posted my ode to young love:
Vicker Switch.

If you haven’t heard it you’ll love it. It’s about how the power of love can bend space and time. It features Bob "The Boy Genius" Hoffnar on the pedal steel & is off my new album, "The Color Red & Other Songs About the Power of Love."

and also it has an amazingly appropriate little picture. you’ll have to see it to believe it.

you could also watch me playing it at the bluebird cafe here:

hope all is well!

more updates coming soon!

Coming off a whirlwind week as I settle down here for the night in Knoxville Tennessee - - I somehow managed to play 9 shows in the short span of the last week. Needless to say it’s nice to have my first night off in quite a while - -

I started the week off lucky, in an enormously low speed car accident on the mean streets of Washington DC. Lucky, that is, at how undisastrous said accident was, and how the grinning gold-toothed non-English speaking gentleman in the other vehicle waved me along with nary a 2nd thought about the causes & effects of the accident. The West Virginia dirt and mud initially hid the damage to my car - although i’m not sure if this indicates the low amount of damage done in the fender bender or the enormously severe amount of mud on my car. but the dent is there. anyway, one more knick in my little road warrior.

After wiping my brow in relief - all drivers okay & all cars almost okay - onwards I was to Fredericksburg VA, where i had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Teresa Storch, Chuck E Costa (No relation to Chuck D) & Erik Balkey at the Fredericksburg Songwriter’s Showcase. The crowd got a little rowdy but fortunately we were able to fend them off with deft lyrics & melodies. whew. that was a close one.

The next day I zipped down to Charlottesville, VA via Richmond. Played a private party in the afternoon before meeting up with Andy Friedman and the other failures in Charlottesville. Good Gawd. The music was raucous and the brews flowed freely: i’m convinced that the crowd was constantly on the verge of a fight because of the down and dirrrrrty southern sounds of The Other Failures: Andy flatteringly suggested that the crowd was simply angry they didn’t hear enough of my songs. I hardly heard him, of course, because by that point in the night I was in the middle of some sort of barroom brawl. Nice work Andy Friedman what with the fighting music.

more on VA & NC shows to come - - - meanwhile i’ll be sleeping sound & long - - -

Here in Washington D.C., recouping & recovering a bit from the first leg of The Color Red & Other Songs About the Power of Love Tour. It has, unsurprisingly perhaps, featured a lot of snow.

Here in DC the roads are clear and the locals practically drool when i mention the 14 inches of Wild, Wonderful West Virginia snow i drove through to get here - they’ve hardly seen jack frost’s hand here by the potomac and wish they had. but take one look in my car - covered in mud, salt, pitted with gravel (in West Virginia the roads are not salted or sanded - but graveled. they are SERIOUS about snow - ) with huge chunks of ice still somehow hanging onto the trunk and wheel wells and you know that you did not want to drive the drive i drove. it’s ugly.

had great shows in philly with jf & ian thomas - in boston with justin shorey - and special thanks to jake & jed for setting up my shows at brown and wesleyan.

played to a full house last night here in DC with Justin Jones & Andy Zipf - great show. don’t miss them if you ever have the chance - - -

Next up - fredericksburg, charlottesville, roanoke, richmond, blacksburg, radford, & boone...

New Songs are up off the soon to be new album "The Lost Year." There are many to thank for helping get this off the ground, but special props go out to M. Danger in particular.
