Dmytro Kurovskiy proudly presents his 9 mixed media works at the first issue of british Silver Lion online magazine. Check it here:

Silver Lion is a new online, eclectic, irregular, not for profit, arts and culture magazine. We are based in Leeds in the North of England but our focus is worldwide.
We have no house style and we believe in a non-hierachical, non-elitist view of art where all mediums are equal and all interesting work deserves coverage whether it is "trendy" or not.

Silver Lion is here to provide a platform for the multitude of talented artists, writers, photographers, poets, illustrators and musicians that are out there ... many of whom don't get the exposure they deserve.
Our editorial policy is to seek out people who we believe are doing interesting work then give them the space and freedom to produce whatever they want and to present it however they want.

"The visual works of Dmytro Kurovskiy are lush, full of color and have this special melancholic psychedelia flavor. His paintings and art are quite expressive and this can often be heard in his music as well. Being a constant headliner of ukrainian underground band "Foa Hoka" within a couple of decades, Kyrovskiy had supplied us not only with the open-minded music but with a decent amount of paintings, collages and visuals which really worth looking at!"

Maxim Shubskyi aka Ceckj 17 Dec 2007

The First time I met Dmytro Kurovsky was at the so called "Brandshof Festival" in Hamburg some Years ago. He played there with his Band Foa Hoka. I was quite impressed to see such excentiric and psychodelic music coming from the Ukraine. Actually because it was the first time i listened to underground music from the Ukraine at all. Later on i got more and more music from the Foa Hoka people and friends and from thier new founded label SKP records. Then i recogniced that there is a lot of Music and Subculture going on there. Already in Hamburg Dmytro showed me his paintings. And for me his paintings seem to be very similair to his music: They are colourfull, excentric, psychodelic, but on the other side they always show small scences and impressions of his all day live. In 2005 finally we did a tour through the Ukraine together with the Foa Hoka guys. We played in Kiev, Odessa and Cernowitz mostly by Bus. And on this trip i found a lot of dmytros colours, i just had to open my eyes. That?s why i always start to remember those week in the Ukraine, when i watch dmytros pictures.

It's very funny to see invented rock stars' portraits made by Kurovskiy in the beginning of the 80's. I was engaged in similar activity at that time, but it's impossible to restore my gallery now. Kurovskiy has kept his dreams in a paper, besides he hasn't stopped. Mainly, it's quite reliable and cheap means to conserve own childhood. I think, everybody painted in the beginning of life, but preservation for the decades of initial style is complete conception. It's truth that these bright pictures have been made by child, regardless of the making time. In my opinion, the strange living beings' representation is the most important part of this activity. I see their tempers and I suppose there are Kurovskiy's inner life bits on a paper. Moreover, real people's portraits are very truthful and realistic. I'd like to see my portrait made by Kurovskiy one day.

Kurovskiy - pure positive psychedelic artist. at a glance one can see kinda childish primitivism, but to me his works are overfilled with sparkling reality of a vigorous character. and I do like to get into these pictures-doors-windows and explore this cosy fantastic world full of surprising gimmicks and wows. still on the wall of my workshop one can find a small pencil graffiti "evil's gone - sunshine's come. happiness" - a simple verse from Foa Hoka's song. nothing to say. just. happiness.

Dmytro! i wrote down my thoughts to some of your drawings. great work. very impressive collages. : " king tubby a.k.a. Osbourne Ruddock - the inventor of dubbing and remix, shot and killed in 1989. chosen by jah to get the people dancing. that is true royalty. a contemplative hero looks at me - in silence, with a deep dubrythm playing in the back. why did he get killed. very felicitous and impressive composition." : "I see the face of a man with a strong face. the title seems to be the name of that man. so i checked wiki (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toshiro_Mifune) for that name. uhu, he was an actor of Kurosawa movies, described as "originating the "roving warrior" archetype". i look at the drawing again. two different eyes. the right eye could be a fiery glass eye. the yellow face and the hair style might be a reminiscence of eastern asia. - or does that just play with my prejudices of eastern asia? the phallus-nose, the beart, the sharp conture of the cheek and the contrast to the dark background gives it the masculine strength. the fine lineament breaks with the bad character of a warrior. so he seems to be the good and righteous warrior - an idealist. a symbol for righteousness in an unjustly world." : "outside is a wild forest. an animal is looking from the outside through the window. the window is of a bunker. inside the bunker, inside of me too, are so many colors, which frame the window. the look outside is a tunnel view. but for the animal too. is it a tiger, hiding in the bushes? waiting for me? kill or be killed. hide and hope not to be found. but the animal found me already. it can smell me. it invites me to come out. a phantasmic temptation or the invitation to communicate? " the exhibition in chernihiv looks like a success, wasn't it? all my best to you and those who are with you.

I met Foa-Hoka in Kyiv at the studio of my artist friend Kyrylo Protsenko. I got there quite late, but the scene was more reminiscent of the morning – people I didn't know were coming down after the party. The conversation wasn't happening and the atmosphere was becoming uncomfortably somber until I asked if anyone knew anything about an "interesting band from Chernihiv" named Foa-Hoka. It turned out that the people WERE the band… Foa-Hoka was introduced to me by my friend Oleg Chorny. It took me a while to get into it as it makes for rather "uneasy" listening. But once you do, it stays with you. I think the reason for it is its honesty. You get absorbed by its melancholia and funky layers of sound archeology. Like his music, Kurovsky's art is a collage of layers of his imagination, which seems to be bottomless. I'd like to see on my wall his little old, dirty cracked basement window framed with psychedelic doodles, which remind me of Ukrainian embroidery.
