Well, Yes: YES,

The 5th Annual July 4th Kickball game is here.

Patriotic and international optimisms (http://www.barackobama.com)
aside, this year will be another comforting and inspirational step
towards our collective progress as Americans.

How? Well, kickball, naturally and for starters. Not to mention a
bbq and whatever other homespun kitchen treats any and all choose to
bring to the fifth annual smorgasbord. But this year on Nellie's Lawn
in Prospect Park also features some big time treats for friends new
and old:

- kickBALL! no experience necessary, no experience preferred
- Bocce Ball halftime, and all-the-time for those who wish
- Deserving awards for those who are/are close to
- Take homes for all - surprise! what they'll be
- Fireworks - literal and/or figurative
- Extras! - don't assume that they'll be there - or that they won't be
there - so bring 'em, sure

We all hope you can join. Demi-Decades only really come twice every
ten years, tops. This'll be fun. The gameday details are thus:

Where: Nellie's Lawn, Prospect Park, Brooklyn
Directions: Q to 7th Avenue (enter park at Grand Army Plaza, turn
southleft, walk down the East Drive, follow the sound of Joy), F
train to 7th Ave. (walk up 9th Street, enter park, turn left, follow
the smell of Peace), or 2/3/4/5 to Grand Army Plaza (enter park at
Grand Army Plaza, turn downwest, walk down the East Drive, follow the
light of the Future).
When: Friday, July4th, 2008; "True Noon," 12:00pm
Stipulations: Rain or Shine.
Panic Number: 917.453.5842

Please forward this e-mail to everyone you'd like to celebrate with.

Many thanks!

Yours and ours,
Jeremy

Dear Patriots,

Yes.  It's that time again.

Time to break forth and celebrate at this year's 4th Annual
Independence Day Kickball-in-the-Park Extravapalooza.

All are welcome, bring friends, bring family, bring strangers.
Details are as follows:

Where: Nellie's Lawn, Prospect Park, Brooklyn
Directions: Q to 7 Avenue (enter park at Grand Army Plaza, turn
southleft, walk down the East Drive, follow the light of Democracy), F
train to 7th Ave. (walk up 9th Street, enter park, turn left, follow
the smell of Justice), or 2/3/4/5 to Grand Army Plaza (enter park at
Grand Army Plaza, turn downleft, walk down the East Drive, follow the
sound of enduring Freedom).
When: Wednesday, July 4th, 2007; "True Noon," 12:00pm
Stipulations: Rain or Shine.
Panic Number: 917.453.5842

We'll have some refreshments, and feel free to bring whatever
performance enhancers you may like.  Brett's in charge of testing for
juicers, so obviously regulations will be lax.

Hope you can join us!

And, for those who enjoy lengthy e-mails and random trivia, here are
some key moments in the history of independence:

221 BC, China - Reunited by the Qin Dynasty (and the impending fate of
our economic future was sealed)

843 AD, France, Germany – Treaty of Verdun grants France to Charles
the Bald and Germany to Ludwig the German (agree to disagree over
"wine & cheese" vs. "beer & schnitzel" debate)

1156, Austria - Raised from a Bavarian margravate to an independent
duchy under the Babenbergs in the Privilegium Minus (Babenbergs take
the opportunity to be the first to officially "pass the duchy on the
left-hand side," and celebrate the fact they no longer have to look up
the word "margravate")

1579, The Netherlands - From Spain after the Eighty Years War (Dutch
free to celebrate the value of a tulip, Spain freed up to spend more
time on the art of stabbing pre-stabbed bulls in public)

July 1, 1867, Canada - Granted Dominion Status by the UK (Canadians
finally given freedom to establish socialized medicine and deal with
nation-wide crisis of clogged arteries caused by excessive consumption
of their version of bacon)

December 6, 1921, Ireland - From the UK (Black & Tans becoming more
well-known among the happy hour bar set as refreshment, rather than
the strong-armed bane of the Sinn Fein and IRA)

February 11, 1929, Vatican City - From Italy (so the Pope could ensure
his personal papal swiss guard would always get to wear those darling
little uniforms)

April-December, 1991, Georgia, Estonia, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine,
Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan,
Armenia, Turkmenistan, Kazaghstan - All from the former Soviet Union
(eat it, bolsheviks - final score - U.S.A.: 1; U.S.S.R.: 0)

That's it for now.  I encourage you to wikipedia more fun dates and
share with your friends.

Be seeing you,

Jeremy Der Kickballer

My Fellow New Yorkers,

I hope you are as happy to receive this e-mail as I am to send it.  I
am proud to announce and invite you to 3J4: The 3rd Annual
Independence Day Kickball-in-the-Park Extravaganza.

This is the perfect chance to act out in Civil Misobedience for our
"Government," exercise all the great new kicking moves you've been
studying during the World Cup, and gather in Olmstead's preferred
Prospect Park with friends old, new and borrowed.

For you veterans and rookies to the day, here are some highlights:

Year 1 Highlight: Local youth Crawford joining our game in an act of
unbridled courage - to be rewarded by a swift ball to the privates
delivered by yours truly.  I still maintain it was an accident, and
while my victory jig to first base seemed a little heartless, I did
bring him an icepack while he was being attended to by many attractive
young women, including one Dr. Parekh.

Year 2 Highlight: The sound produced when Captain Aaron Volkman's
in-the-park home run was thwarted by rival Captain Brett "Stone Wall"
Tieman's perfectly-legal plate block, creating a palpable "slap" felt
by onlookers across the Long Meadow.  Aaron rocked that black eye for,
like, two weeks.  Awesome.  [Please See Attached image, labeled
"Impact"]

Year 3 Projected Highlights:  Awards Ceremony/Prizes/The Raffa Clan

The Schematics for the Day:
Where: Nellie's Lawn, Prospect Park, Brooklyn
Directions: Q to 7 Avenue (enter park at Grand Army Plaza, turn
southleft, walk down the East Drive, follow the sound of Freedom), F
train to 7th Ave. (walk up 9th Street, enter park, turn left, follow
the smell of Justice), or 2/3/4/5 to Grand Army Plaza (enter park at
Grand Army Plaza, turn downwest, walk down the East Drive, follow the
light of Democracy).
When: Tuesday, July 4th, 2006; "True Noon," 12:00pm
Stipulations: Rain or Shine.

Bring whomsoever/whatever you'd like.  Any expeditious and responsible
parties are welcome to bring blankets, especially.  Count on there
being some refreshments to enhance the day.

Please forward this invite to anyone you'd like or think I have
missed, unless you know I missed them intentionally.

Can't wait to see you!

Your Fellow American,

Jeremy

                 **2ND ANNUAL**
                    **JULY 4TH**
        **KICKBALL IN THE PARK**
**"BIGGER! BETTER!! DRUNKER!!!"**

Somehow, a whole year has gone by, we're still at war, we still have a
botarded chimp for a president, but, god-help-it-all, I still feel a
powerful urge to show the love of my country by drinking barley sodas
and kicking a little red ball with every ounce of patriotic ire in me.

Here's what's what:

*Date: Monday, July 4th
*Time: 1:00pm
*Location: Prospect Park [The green Southleft of the Grand Army Plaza
entrance to the park], Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A., The World
*Stipulations: Rain or Shine
*Fuel: Bring anything you want - we'll have some food and lots of discrete beer

Directions:  Q to 7 Avenue (enter park at Grand Army Plaza, turn
southleft), F train to 7th Ave. (walk up 9th Street, enter park, turn
left, follow the sound of a kickball), 2/3/4/5 to Grand Army Plaza
(enter park, turn southleft, follow the smell of a kickball).

For Love of Country, for your friends, for yourself, for beer, for Kickball.
