... these birds are both amazing and annoying... A few years ago, I went to Rome during the Christmas break. As most people report after going to Rome, I too found it to be amazing. The food, wine, sights, sounds...all that. Even the filthy gypsies were quite interesting to watch. I've been listening to BBC World News online lately and they have been reporting the problems Rome is face with their influx of Starlings, these small birds. The amazing part about these birds is their flight patterns. The picture above and the movie below, does it a bit of justice, but it is mesmerizing to watch. The downside to having thousands of small swarming birds is the thousands of small droplets of bird shit raining down. During my weeks stay in Rome, I managed to see the Colosseum, all of the Vatican (including the Pope), a million of piazza's, a Italian soccer match, and a bunch of old buildings, all while dodging the onslaught of bird shit bombings. As I went to leave Rome at Ciampino airport, I got hit...shit on...right on my head. Fortunately, this air attack was small and confined to only one bird. The damage was minimized, but no less annoying. These birds are a pain in the ass, but their flight patterns look so cool. Have a look:

... Chemical Ali? Nah...I'm going with mustached-face prick... That guy "chemical ali" guy has been sentenced to death. He killed a bunch of people, chemical weapons, etc. etc. Great! (I guess). More importantly, was that his real nickname or did some westerner give him that moniker to make him more demon-like? It seems to be a very Bush-like nickname. I doubt his friends refer to him as "chemical ali" on a regular basis. It just sounds stupid. Maybe it's a translation thing. Who knows.

... the one, the only SNL... SNL has been great lately. The election stuff was amazing, but outside of the political hilarity, SNL has been producing some great stuff. The more random the sketch the better, in my opinion. One of my favorites of recently is the "Mark Wahlberg Talks To Animals" sketch, which is rediculous, but funny. Adding to the chuckles is Wahlberg's on-air response. Have a look:

... bye bye US auto industry... The American auto industry is in trouble. I would really like to thank the news media for pointing out the painfully obvious truth we have all known for the last ten years. While the rest of the world were imposing standards of quality, fuel efficiencies, and new technology, we worked to build our cars larger, less fuel efficient and with less quality control. It is humorous to me that the auto makers are now asking for a nine billion dollar bailout. It is nearly as humorous as the financial industry asking for bailout money. I somewhat understand the crisis we are in, but the automotive industry brought all of this on themselves. They have made bad cars for too long and have consistently failed to be internationally competitive. Tough luck, suckers! Even though Detroit is now looking for a sweet bailout, I hope they are denied. Our government will cave unfortunately, and hand over the billions they "need". What's another nine billion, eh? In this latest request for cash, they are driving to Washington, foregoing their private jets. One can only hope that in their drive to Washington D.C., they realize the poor standards of their automobiles. For those who don't understand the situation, here's a nice synopsis from SNL: ..

... human or dancer? who gives a shit... The Killers never really did much for me. People went mad for their pseudo-British sound. Mr. Brightside was a pretty good track, but overall, they are a band that just sucks. Their latest song "Human" is yet another example of the black hole of suckiness that is The Killers. The song asks "Are we human. Or are we Dancer", referring to a Hunter S. Thompson quote, questioning whether we are human beings or are we shallow, self-obsessed, pointless, fake and empty mass meant of be looked at (or some b/s like that). The internet debate rages over whether the lyric is "dancer", "dancers" or "denser" - and I couldn't care less. Seriously, it is The Killers. I would rather the song not exist altogether. Nothing could be sadder than arguing over such a crap lyric in a crap song, from such a crap band. For those fortunate enough to not have listened to modern rock radio, here's the crap song/band/etc in question:

... i just don't understand... Overall, chain stores are just not my thing and to be honest, I think I am getting tired of sandwiches. I would much rather grab a decent meal with vegetables and take my time eating, rather than stuffing my face with a crap sandwich.
I went to an event where they served Firehouse Subs. I had heard about this place, but really was uninterested in trying this place out on my own, for one shallow reason - their tag line is stupid. "Firehouse Subs: Founded by Fireman"...what the hell? Is the "fact" that it was founded by fireman want to make me wear my American flag t-shirt and run down to Firehouse to grab a sandwich? I just don't understand their selling point. To be honest, the sandwich was nothing special.
What is really confusing me is the lack of association between firemen and sandwiches. Yes, the stereotype of fat firemen sitting around stuffing their faces with sandwiches may be true, but that does not really make me want to go out and eat a sandwich. My particular sandwich did not even have tons of meat on it. Nor were the cookies over sized. It was rather disappointing.
Jimmy Johns (gross) has their tag line that reinforces how quick they are about making / delivering your food. McAllister's has something I guess. Subway has that fat guy toting how healthy the sandwiches are. But, Firehouse Subs states it was founded by fireman. Lame.

MTV has ruined music. They jump on some bandwagon and run it into the ground. First MTV revolutionized music videos. So Kudos for that, but at the same time Kudos for ruining music videos. Out of the 2,300,400,090 videos from an equally large number of quality bands, they seem to pick three videos and put them on repeat for days on end. For a company that prides themselves on being on the cutting edge of entertainment, they seem to only show three videos a day and every teeny reality show garbage. Even more confusing is that they not only show crap shows, they repeat them 80 times a week. It's the same on MTV, MTV2, and MTVTres (the Spanish speaking one). So frustrating. In actually having my roommates TV on the other day, MTV2 was playing a marathon of Bam Margera's TV show (whatever it's called). Between the commercial breaks they played THE SAME TWO GOD DAMNED RACONTEURS 30-SECOND CLIP. In two hours of television, they played the two clips eight times. What a load of crap!

... sexism, double standards, bla bla bla... I make no effort to hide my distaste for Sarah Palin. Kudos to Tina Fey for not holding back in her true impresonation. This woman is crazy if she honestly thinks she is any way / shape / form ready to even be Vice President. She is a lunatic. I personally do not want another war-monger, religious psycho-path in the whitehouse. The video below was shocking. I heard nothing but excuses, whining and complaining. Palin seriously wants to talk double standards? She questions the media critique of not being able to perform the job of Vice President, but in the same breath she criticizes Obama for his lack of experience. Strange. She wants to talk about how the media questions what mediocre qualifications she has? She wants to complain about how she has been treated by the "gotcha media", but yet she has never ONCE answered a question directly, always dodging the issue? Honestly? This woman is WAY out of her league. In the video below, Palin states "I never saw a final bill", referring to the alleged $150,000 that was spent on her and her families outfits at the RNC...now there ya go Sarah, always trying to twist and turn the truth. I know what I am about to say is is sexist, but she is a woman and she damn well knows how much her outfit costs. Also, it seems very convenient of her to refer to her expensive clothes as "tools". I know I am super liberal, but I think I can see through this woman's bullshit. If she would just admit that she is nothing more than republican eye candy, I might would respect her. Regardless, here's the video:

... classic... Shawshank is one of those all-time classic Sunday afternoon movies that no matter what you are doing, you find yourself sitting and watching the whole damn thing. It is a stellar movie. For those who haven't seen it or need a recap, the guys from Jib Jab have done the entire movie in a few minutes. Oh, and it's done to the rap music. Enjoy:

... it's a hotel, honest... A friend of mine, Keely, sent me a "Stumble Upon" thing highlighting this site called " Unusual Hotels of the World", which basically enables my A-D-D for hours, whilst I am supposed to be working. But well worth it. There's all sorts of weird and wonderful places to stay around the world. Think before you book your next holiday in some boring Marriott or dirty hostel. There's some underwater, themed, train, church and other strange hotel types. There's even former prison / hotel conversion you can book. Very strange, but pretty cool. Enjoy - http://www.unusualhotelsoftheworld.com/
