SOMETIMES.YOU.HAVE.TO.KEEP.IT.SHORT -Absolute Noise 17 november -09
They say "Swedish music" and they picture a clean pop sound. Wrong. Erase. Rewind. Watch out. Poppets does not mean pop. More punk. Dirty. Punchy. Energizing. It's been weeks (months actually!) since I have wanted to mention them. Here they are. More Moldy Peaches style than ever. I could go on. And on. About them. A duo. Lina. Magnus. But with a band like that you have to keep it short. Right? Yeah. Let's keep it short. Just like their music. Get back. 1'26. Dirty. Punchy. Energizing. Am I repeating myself? Lo-fi too. A goddamn obvious hit. Simple. All in all. One of the most fun band in Sweden right now.

Maximum Rock'n'Roll(#317 "The Queer Issue"):
POPPETS - "Trouble" 7"(Bubbledumb) ~ This is maybe the 3rd or 4th record I've been able to get my hands on by this band. A duo from Sweden, these guys are just rock fucking solid. If you're into catchy punk rock that is delivered with a sense of urgency, and raw but well played, this is absolutely for you. Oh, and it's got the male/female vocal trade off that I like. Fans of THE DIALTONES and THE PLASTIQUES will recognize half the duo. Image early TELEVISION PERSONALITIES mixed with some BUZZCOCKS and thrown into a garage blender. Yeah.
- Kenny Kaos
Here's one too for the "Utmarken" LP(FDH/PTrash) ~ Eight tracks of squeaky, lo-fi new wave-inspired punk rock. It's brief, it's catchy, it's got the hooks, the charm, and that dancefloor-filler appeal. DIGITAL LEATHER without the digital, hints of BOBBY UBANGI with a heavy helping of the nerds-without-diplomas polish of the NODZZZ.

Get into "Trouble" with Sweden's Poppets
Literally moments after dropping the needle in the groov of Poppets new "Trouble" seven-inch from Bubbledumb Records, my wife called to let me know that the rugged brown hills overlooking our house were engulfed in flame. Sure enough, a look out the window revealed a thick plume of yellow-gray smoke rising toward the twirling blades of half a dozen media helicopters. Far off, at the base of the hill, you could see the bright orange cough of flame at the heart of it all.
Ironically, the "Trouble" single pictures Lina and Magnus standing in front of an A-bomb mushroom blast, arms around each other as the world goes up in flames. Trouble indeed. Summer is here and it is hot. So is this record, which features three jangly, pop-garage treats, the aforementioned title cut plus "Cosmic Rebell" (a Nazis From Mars cover) and "Police! Police!" This Swedish duo has won the hearts of garage punk fans with a string of no-frills honest-rockin' records, including last month's 12" EP on FDH Records and a recent stateside tour. This latest single continues the band's upward trajectory. It's limited to a mere 500 copies, so scoop one up before they're but a memory, like the charred trees and shrubs overlooking Eagle Rock.

Go to a “Dance Party” with Sweden’s Poppets: new vinyl release on FDH Records
Lina and Magnus have scored another win with their latest twelve-inch EP from FDH and Currently in the midst of a US tour (they played LA on Sunday and are in San Franciso tonight), the band has a knack for composing offbeat, catchy lo-fi garage pop that will climb into your ears and stay there for days.
The eight songs on the EP jump out of the grooves with energy and good vibrations. Song titles like “Spit Out My Gum,” “Cherry on My Sunday” and “Break My Heart In Two” give you an idea of what you’re in store for.
This is the second of three recent 12” releases from Philadelphia’s FDH Records, which also include the mind-bendingly good Earthmen and Strangers debut LP and Mac Blackout’s dazzling synth-pop express ride to hell, “The Western Blue.” All three are well worth the price of admission and can be ordered directly from FDH Records. -Jason Gelt

Los Angeles Times Music Blog:
Magnanimous Collector's pick of the week: Poppets' "Get Back" EP
May 9, 2008
Sweden has been pumping out great underground rock 'n' roll for quite some time now, including guitar noodlers the Hellacopters, garage punk experimentalists Regulations and hardcore purists Amdi Petersen's Arme, not to mention its most high-profile punk rock export, the crowd-pleasing Hives.
Add Poppets to the list, a lo-fi, drum machine-based duo that consists of former Heartattacks front man Magnus Andersson and his girlfriend, Lina. Over the course of four tight, catchy tunes, the fearless pair serves up a stripped-down, pop punk landscape that is definitely one of the best releases yet from Sacramento's primo Plastic Idol Records. With another seven-inch available on Austria's Bachelor Records and a forthcoming one slated for San Francisco's Bubbledumb Records, Poppets are one hard-working band. Reward them for their efforts by picking up a copy of the latest EP – after all, only 300 copies were pressed.

VICTIM OF TIME - BREAKING SOUNDS: Poppets 7"
by Todd Killings
posted Tuesday Feb 19th, 2008
Just as the ice and snow is growing to epically depressing proportions around the Midwest, it's nice to know that over in one of the most eternally frozen parts of the planet, there are the first rumblings of a spring thaw that the Swedish can appreciate just as well as everyone else buried in frigidity. And by-god, this little record may be all that we need to break the ice. This week's Breaking Sounds feature record is one of the heralding releases that will usher in warmer weather and better times for all of us frozen in action, and just so happens to be the debut 7" on Bachelor Records by Swedish party punks, the Poppets. With all of the silly and unanimous praise that the Sneaky Pinks' debut garnered back in 2005, the dumbed-down drunken infection has swept into the Scandinavian countryside and festered in the newly formed Poppets, who just so happen to include Magnus from the extremely prolific Heartattacks, along with his partner, Lina.
What you get on the 7" are three hot-blasting party songs ripped off the right way (check out "Pre-Party" for a wretchedly delightfully inept pop swipe at The Spits' "She Don't Kare") that are done unabashedly off-the-cuff, and devoid of the annoying trappings that usually accompany the bulk of today's modern punk music that's rammed down our throats. Available in a ultra-primitive screened sleeve, it's another nerdy necessary party record for ushering in a new year with nothing in the way of your good time at stake, and another reason why the Sneaky Pinks 'legacy' is seriously more real than you might ever have imagined.
Look for two more follow-up singles from the Poppets to effervescently pop up in the next few months on Plastic Idol and Bubbledumb Records, and in the meantime, check out tuned-in mailorder spots like Floridas Dying, Boom Chick, and Bistro Distro for a copy of this fine debut 7" before the rest of the world catches on and you're left crying in a dumpster with your mother's diaphragm in your mouth, just like last year.

SMASHIN' TRANSISTORS: the POPPETS "Pre-Party" 7inch EP

All those out there trying to cop that Ramones thing (and I know you still exist cause a different band you types roll through these parts every 6 weeks or so) get away from concentrating it all what you think is an awesome loud guitar tone and the beat that becomes redundant it's the only one used in your set. Stop trying to work some kind of fucking political message into some of your songs too-what the fuck is that about??? Does "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg" stick that much more in your mind than something like "I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement"??? Seriously, come on...doing it that way means you have to start to use words with more than 4 syllables. Then what? Using more than four chords. All you need is three (or if you're truly clever-two). You're doing it allll wrong!!! THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT!!! Chewing a big wad of grape flavored bubblegum on the beach and haven't yet learned that ya should close yr mouth when the wind whips of the wind sugary crunchiness and the old Tascam four track crackle that would make Supercharger proud. The best use of "Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah!" type of simple sing-a-longs since that Sneaky Pinks the Poppets take it to a part of town where a majority of the street lights are smashed-n-broken. Those are always the of places that have the types of people who truly know how to have the best of dumb fun times. The Poppets have been handed the keys to those streets.

Poppets pre party 7" BACHELOR
Pre-pArtY / StupiD town / New YeAr
Do you remember that? :-) You're invited to a party tonight but don't wanna go yet;
you don't want to be the first to be there to get drunk so you'll better wait till at
least eleven; so what do you do until then ?
You'll hang around and have a couples!
We used tequila (and other Mexican) and beer, there was always lots of beer. Then, while listening to the right music, you'll get into a feeling that it would be
nicer to stay at home and ? but that's another story... ;-)
Here's the 7inch Vinyl to it. Pre-party! The great swedish two-piece
POPPETS did it!
The POPPETS are Lina and Magnus and they name it pop-punk.
(some of you might know Magnus from The HEARTATTACKS). The recording was done with a helping hand from Zeta (also HEARTATTACKS).
It's simple, it's easy, the guitar is swinging, not too clean not completely
buzzed, it's got this sing-along melody and everything it needs. There?s
nothing too much in it. Less is more and that's it. Not too brutal, not too fast, not that much noise but catchyness and melody, yet just scratchy enough : lofi recorded! It's Rock'n'Roll with party action in it, so what are you complaining about?
Get some beers, get some smokes, put the record on and funning preparty!
Stupid town and there we go again. I like that. The guitar playing the same
cord just as long as necessary. Simple but enough. It works. That's it, that's garage.
That's how it should be.
New year then, another good song. Nice guitar phasing effects. Works again
son ! I like the way the guitar keeps uptempo and creates the rhythm of the
song. All good things are three songs on a 7". Turn around again and start
over!
Also watch out for the next two 7"es the Poppets will have out on Platic Idol and on Bubbledumb!
But first make shure you get this Bachelor 7" and be quick. I thinks it's only 150 with red printed cover and another 150 with a black print on the cover!
If you failed write Elmar at bachelor and tell him to go for a second press! Alright.
