Hello Friends,

We are sad to report our upcoming European tour has been cancelled due to illness that has affected someone very near and dear to us.  For the moment our energy will focus on remaining strong and positive with an eye towards a healthy and swift recovery.

We look forward to getting back on the road as soon as possible and hope to see you all very very soon.

Sending Love,

Hey Friends,

2010 appears to be shaping up very well for us so far!  We're so excited to announce the first confirmed dates for our upcoming European tour taking place between mid January and the first part of February.  We'll have stops in Germany, France, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Hungary, Italy, Spain, and a few other spots soon to be announced.

This trip is particularly exciting for a couple reasons... firstly, because it marks our first tour with dear friend and bassist Trevor Montgomery.  Many of you many not know, but Trevor was our original bassist, so in many ways we've come full-circle!  We plan on playing a bunch of new material written with him as well as some oldies as well.  Trevor will also be opening a handful of dates under his gorgeous and haunting Lazarus project.  We're also super happy to have been invited by the kind folks from the amazing Tanned Tin festival in Castellon Spain...

The following dates are CONFIRMED:

20.01.2010 Hamburg (DE), Hafenklang (NEW!)
21.01.2010 Leipzig (DE), UT Connewitz (NEW!)
22.01.2010 Ebensee (AT), Kino w/ Lazarus (NEW!)
23.01.2010 Murska Sobota (SI), Mikk (NEW!)
25.01.2010 Zagreb (HR), Teatar &TD (NEW!)

Lot's more to come, so please keep an eye out... hope to see you out there!!!

Much Love ) ) )

Hey everyone,

We have some significant news to share with you.  Safa Shokrai is no longer playing with us.  It's woth noting that it was a very positive and natural transition on both ends with lot's of hugs exchanged!

It has been an incredible run (6+years!!!) and we are so grateful to have shared so many creative experiences together, spanning two full-lengths "Noumena" (2005) & "Memory Drawings" (2008), the "Streets/Nozomi" ep (2005), extensive touring in Japan, Europe, Canada, US, and essentially shaping and growing together as a band.  Please visit his page on myspace to follow his current and future creative happenings, as I'm sure they'll be amazing.  He'll be very much missed!

There is a resolve to all this though... please share our excitement in welcoming Trevor Montgomery back into the fold on electric bass.  For those of you who may not know, Trevor helped start the band with Rich, Jeff, and myself way back in 2001 and is actually featured on our very first ep release as part of the mail-order series "Travels In Constance".  He has a long lineage with us and will no-doubt be a huge creative force in the band.  We are currently holed-up writing new material and so far the experience has been incredibly inspiring and productive.  We cannot wait to share the new material with you!!!  Expect perodic updates on that in the near future.  In the meantime, please visit Trevors beautiful solo singer/songwriter project Lazarus and tell everyone you know to go see him in Europe this Fall opening for the Castanets!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

On another note, we are thrilled to have our music featured on the amazing Moth radio podcast series.  It's currently running as pilot and has hopes to eventually be a regular program on NPR.  Safa also has some original works featured as well so please visit the link for all the details.  It's really interesting portraits of everyday life told very candidly, much like what you might hear on Ira Glass's popular program This American Life.

Well... thats the news for now.  Thanks as always for listening and supporting what we do!!!

Much Love,

The Drift

Hey all,

I wrote this melody yesterday in honor of a dear friend named Henry, who passed away last Sunday. His humor, warmth, and light is eternal. He lived a long and rich life and I'm grateful to have known him.

Hi friends,

The kind local music supporting folks at The Deli SF have nominated us for "band of the month".  It's a harmless plug to help spread support for them as a great site as well as us as a band.  Please visit their website here to cast your vote if you find a moment.

Thanks and sending much love from the bay)))

Hello and Happy New Years everyone!!! 2008 was a spectacular year for us. Many thanks to those of you who've listened and supported us along the way. Here's a brief list to recap some of the highlights of last year:Releasing our second full-length "Memory Drawings" on Temporary Residence, Special thanks to the kind folks at The Silent Ballet for placing us at the #2 slot of their top 50 of 2008!, We had the great fortune to reach across continents and play in Europe for the first time in May of 2008, ending the tour with a spot at the amazing and surreal All Tomorrow Parties curated by our dear friends Explosions In The Sky. Thanks to our friends at Paper & Iron Booking and Tout Partout for making the trip possible!, We also had the honor to take part in the Lola Fest, an annual music & art's festival based in London Ontario. It was a dream! And last, but certainly not least... OBAMA became a reality and for that we are most grateful. Here's to a new year full of positive and peaceful change. We've got a couple exciting show updates to share.... >>>>>>>>>For those of you in and around the San Francisco/Bay Area, it is our great honor to be sharing a bill with one of our all-time favorite bands, The Necks from Australia! We hope you can join us in welcoming the band to SF, as they rarely tour here and put on notoriously ecstatic live shows - not to be missed! They'll be doing a number of US dates, so if your living elsewhere we encourage you to visit their website for a full list of tour dates.>>>>>>>>>Spring is not too far off and because we had such a great time touring Europe last year, we thought we'd come back and do it all over again! This time with shows in Germany, France, Belguim, Spain, Switzerland, and hopefully Holland. Please visit our show listings for all upcoming shows for details. Hope to see you out there very soon!!!Love,((((The Drift))))

Hello hello!

We are super happy to be a part of this years 12th annual Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival right here in our beloved San Francisco.

//////////////////////////////

Festival Mission Statement:

For the 12th year in a row, San Francisco's premier independent music festival continues to present the finest local music and art. Close to a dozen venues, both big and small, will host the festival from July 16th – July 20th, 2008. In previous years, the festival has been spread out over 11 or more days, with more than 180 acts. By scaling back the length of the festival, we have honed in on what we consider truly crucial, providing an opportunity for record labels, radio representatives, agents, publicists, press, and music fans to discover the best of San Francisco's up-and-coming performing artists.

Created with the intention to foster community and nurture local arts, MCMAF continues to expand with the inclusion of literary events, art shows and alternative performances, with notable guest curators to facilitate this evolution. This year we're excited to feature an expanded Latin rock module, taking place at Balazo Gallery in the Mission. Visual artists, performers, and musicians will again converge at Collision, brought to you in partnership with New Langton Arts; defined by the spirit of collaboration, Collision brings together local and international music acts with artists working in sound installation, experimental music, dance, and music based sculpture.

Mission Creek Productions exists to promote local musicians, artists, writers, designers, and filmmakers, and is a fiscally sponsored partner of The Intersection for the Arts. This year we are very pleased to add Berkeley's Fantasy Studios to our family of presenting sponsors. Other sponsors include The San Francisco Bay Guardian, KUSF, and Rainbow Grocery.

//////////////////////////

Our show takes place Thursday July 17th @ Gray Area Gallery

It's an incredible line-up with...

Tussle
Christopher Willits
The Drift
Eyes
Mi Ami

It should start around 8p and will be in conjunction with some lovely art viewing so I suggest getting there a bit early to take it all in. Really hope some of you can make it out!!

Please visit the festivals site for more detailed information on this event and the many many other amazing shows going on.

Sending LOVE)))
