Yes, and yes.
edit I suspect elaboration is
expected here. Mostly due to the difference people will state between
'killing' this person and providing them mercy. I for one do not
believe that the human spirit just stops. I mean, really? Any Christian
who is offended by 'mercy killing' (or whatever they want to call it)
should really reevaluate their faith; don't they believe in heaven
after all? Couldn't you say that, in a time of such exquisite and awful
pain that will deplete this person anyway, God is possibly testing you?
(Mostly this is my cynicism for how everything in life is apparently
just a 'test' from God; sometimes, shit just happens).
I believe
in something not-absolute. Christianity feels absolute. You die, you go
to heaven. Bam, done. Check please. I do not believe that souls or life
forces or spirits have set pathways. I do not believe we weigh eight
grams, and I do not believe that helping someone terminate their
mortal, physical body does any harm on the beautiful spirit within.
Instead, we are relieving them of a cage that has grown old, twisted or
is repelling the life within it. Release it, and let it be reborn.
