Current mood: sad
My sweet bunny baby Zeus passed away on friday, Aug. 8th.
He was the inspiration for this page and it's because of him that I was able to (or at least attempt to) help other bunnies and bunny owners.
I toyed with the idea of deleating this site. Reminders of Zeus break my heart. But I know it would be much more fitting to keep it open, in his honor.
So I'm going to take this month off. Next month, Sept., we'll put up a new spotlight shelter.

Since no one nominated a shelter for this month, I just picked one myself.
The spotlight shelter for June is the Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group. http://www.longislandrabbitrescue.org/index.htm
From their website: "Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group is an all-volunteer organization based on Long Island, New York. Our mission is to rescue abused, neglected or abandoned rabbits; have them medically treated and spayed/neutered; and place them in loving, indoor homes. We educate the public on the special care and health needs of domestic rabbits, and are sustained by your donations."
You can donate here: http://www.longislandrabbitrescue.org/wish_list.htm

I'm so sorry this is a few days late - I've been pretty sick for the last couple of weeks and haven't been on the computer much lately! ----------------- There was no nominations/votting for the March spotlight shelter since we had a tie in Feb., and since I couldn't convince anymore people to vote, I decided to spotlight one shelter in Feb., and the other in March. -----------------
So the spotlight shelter for March is the original and current headquarters of the House Rabbit Society.
I'm sure the House Rabbit Society website or rescue has helped all of us at least once! The HRS Headquarters website has links to a donation page: http://www.rabbit.org/rabbit-center/donate/index.html
They also have a sponsorship program where you can pay to have care packages sent to the homeless bunnies: http://www.rabbit.org/rabbit-center/sponsor/index.html
They also have a store where you can buy supplies for your bunny, and a cafe press store where you can buy rabbit related stuff for yourself: http://www.cafepress.com/hayward_rabbits

Ok so we had a tie for this months spotlight shelter, between 3 Bunnies Rabbit Rescue and the House Rabbit Society International Headquarters & Rabbit Center.
So since it was a tie, and I couldn't convince anyone else to vote in time, I decided to pick 3 Bunnies Rabbit Rescue as the spotlight shelter for Feb. for a couple of reasons. First, because chapters of the House Rabbit Society have already been featured numerous times, and secondly, because 3 Bunnies has incured some recent medical expensizes that they could use help with. But because it was a tie, the headquarters of the HRS will be featured next month. :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So here's the information for 3 Bunnies Rabbit Rescue!
Here is their website: http://www.3bunnies.org/
Their feature sponsorship bunny, Mango, had to undergo expensive absess surgery after she was dropped off at the shelter. You can read more about her here: http://www.3bunnies.org/mango.htm
Other bunnies that you can help sponser can be viewed here: http://www.3bunnies.org/sponsor_us.htm
Here's a quote from the site on how to donate: "If you would like to help some of these buns on their road to recovery, please consider sponsoring one of our buns in need, to help defray medical expenses. If interested, contact us at: info@3bunnies.org, subject heading: Sponsorship"
They also have a paypal donation button and more information about donations on this page of their site: http://www.3bunnies.org/donate.htm
3 Bunnies Rabbit Rescue, Inc. P.O. Box 380605 East Hartford , CT 06138-0605
So please browse around the site, and donate what you can. They have a great website with some of the shelter bunnies stories, and rabbit care information.
Remember that the whole point of this page is that if everyone gives what they can, even if it's just a little bit, we can have a huge impact on the lives of shelter bunnies! Most people in this group own rabbits of their own, who have great homes and great care, but not all rabbits are so lucky. This is our chance to try to make a diffrence in the lives of shelter rabbits who are still waiting to find their forever homes!

Magic Happens Rabbit Rescue is our first spotlight shelter for 2008!
They have a page here on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/magichappensrescue As well as a normal webpage: www.magichappensrescue.com
You can view their wishlist, and also donate via paypal from this page on their site: http://www.magichappensrescue.com/wishlist.html
There is also a paypal donation button on their myspace page.
As well as the wishlist on their site, I talked to the founder of the rescue, Wendy, and she informed me that they would like to start building a new indoor faculity for the adoptable rabbits. Here is part of the message she sent me:
"It will include sturdy shelves for holding cages (which will be easily accessible to be cleaned), concrete floors for easy sweeping & sanitizing, room for the ex-pens so that more buns can get out and exercise regardless of weather (and we can leave them for longer since if they jump out when we're not around, they're still contained!), air conditioning for our hot & humid Louisiana summers, storage area to keep our 50lb sacks of feed and bales of hay dry and out of the sun, and a bunny-proofed "reception" area with a desk and sofa (already donated!) where adopting families can sit comfortably and interact with their potential adoptable to see if they are truly a good match instead of an adult sitting uncomfortably on the floor in an ex-pen. We have yet to find an affordable and acceptable pre-fab building from Lowe's or Home Depot, so we are most likely going to be building & customizing it ourselves, which is great because we can build it EXACTLY like we need it, only it will take some time to put it all together... but then again, doing it over time will help us do it slowly but surely instead of having to raise the funds all at once!
...if folks would like, we will gladly accept Home Depot cards as well as Paypal because we will be buying quite a bit of lumber to build shelves and gates!"
Here is the address to the shelter: Magic Happens Baton Rouge, LA 225-572-9735
And an email address: Wendy@magichappensrescue.com
You can also contact Wendy by sending a message on the myspace page for Magic Happens - I'm sure she'll be more then happy to assist you with any questions you might have.
Also - one last thing - Magic Happens offers a sponsor-a-bunny opportunity as well as sponsor-a-snip for neuters and spays.
(again this info is from a message Wendy sent) "Each sponsor for a specific bun gets a certificate (or if on myspace, an image to display on their page, example of one on our page) with a photo of their sponsored bun. If they would like it to go to something specific (such as a toy, treat, or hideaway), then of course we will grab exactly what they want their bun to have. Their sponsorship is also noted on our sponsor-a-bunny webpage and on their bunny's profile page on petfinder. If it is a general donation, it goes towards our overall funds... we go through about a 50lb sack of feed each week ($12 after tax) and a 10lb bag of hay ($10 thanks to a generous local store who lets us buy wholesale!), and $9/month for our website. To save costs we use only hay and newspaper for bedding and litter unless a bun needs something special, like carefresh for after surgeries or for the 2 guinea pigs that we have right now. We also have a wishlist online (updated monthly or as needed)..."
This is a great opertunity to sponser a specific rabbit from a shelter and you can get a cute little banner for your myspace!
