Taken from Do The Dog’s page:

We are very happy to announce that the latest addition to the Do The Dog Music kennel of bands is the superb Newbury, Berkshire based outfit The Lockup!

This 8 piece crew boast a powerful 4 pronged vocal attack who deliver unstoppably catchy sing-a-long choruses, backed up by killer swirling keyboard & brass melodies laid over a great mix of highly energetic & pulsating 2 tone ska beats & more chilled out reggae & dub grooves.

Due out soon on Do The Dog Music is The Lockup’s new 6 song CD mini album.

You can check out a rough demo version of one of the tracks from the upcoming CD, "Comatose", on the Do The Dog Music Myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/dothedogmusic & also 3 tracks from the band’s excellent debut "French Kisses & Chinese Burns" on Riot Music at http://www.myspace.com/thelockup

Current mood:  accomplished

So – that was alright????

We sold out within half an hour of opening the doors on Friday – that's right up there with the Spice Girls selling out!!  Tee hee.

Seriously though – Friday night was a massive success.

Soozi Spin set the music going on the decks, ahead of the first band of the evening – Skybabies.  This was sadly Skybabies last gig, due to Chris leaving to follow other musical paths.  Their set was pounding and the crowd loved every second.  The highlight of their set was their final song in which Chris delivered a fantastic monologue, making direct reference to the whole reason for this particular gig taking place – Uncle Henry's pub (formally the Captain's Cabin) in Newbury.  The punters cheered at each reference and were set up ready for Junction XIII to take the helm.

Junction XIII delivered their usual hard rockin' set with front man Adam owning the stage and captivating the audience attention.  These boys certinaly deliver a show, and give you your money's worth......one way or another!

The headline band for the Uncle Henry's Phoenix from the Flames party had to be The Lockup!  With each member either having been a member of staff, resident or punter of Uncle Henry's, there was no other choice for the main band.  With frontman and Landlord of Uncle Henrys at the time of the fire, Ben Holden, taking to the stage, the crowd flocked to the dance foor and the music started.

Not once did people leave the floor.  Not once did people stop dancing.  Speaking to one of the punters about the gig the following day, The Lockup were described as "45 minutes of fun".

There are no more words to say about the evening – the fact that we filled the venue throughout the evening, with  no let up speaks for itself.

HUGE thanks to Laura behind the bar at AFC Newbury.

HUGE thanks to Sarah Richardson who was taking the door money for the evening who had to jump behind the bar for part of the night to help out!

Massive thanks also to Pete Branch and his security staff.  We made Liquid look a tad quiet!

Thanks also to Soozi Spin, Skybabies, Junction XIII, The Lockup and also Lee Wickens.

Finally – thanks to you all for coming along, especially our special guests for the evening; Sherrie Ann Stephenson and Dan Norris.

Who knows what we may have up our sleeves for 2008............

Rock yer socks off!  This was a musical delight all round with the Crawlin' Kings kicking off a toe tapping night of sweaty blues n rock...!

These guys deliver such mature music at such a young age.  They handed the baton over to Kamikaze Test Pilots who never fail to deliver a stonkingly good rock show.  These boys are gaining quite a reputation in Newbury at the moment, so it's good to see them picking up new fans at each gig.  If you missed them at Pooka, see them again at the Late Lounge on my birthday (pressies please....) which is the 4th October, hosted by our Newbury colleagues T.N.T (they're in our top friends, so check it out!).

White Sunday finished the night with a stupidly tight set.  I saw these boys play Caversham last summer, and my, how they've grown!  They've developed into quite a band, and fair play to them!  They've certainly earnt it over the past year.  They're currently working on their debut album with Dave Allen (Producer – The Cure) and Mark Ralph (Massive Attack & The Others) pushing all the big buttons on the mixing desk.  Can't wait to hear it.

Foot fall wise, wasn't the busiest of nights by a long shot, but I blame post holiday blues and High Voltage for that....tee hee.  Thing is, everyone who was there enjoyed themselves and went home as a new fan of one of the bands!  Can't be bad.

Next month is the Phoenix from the Flames party.  We've been asked a lot about advance tickets, but have decided against this.  It will be a strictly first come first served night, and doors at 8pm, no sooner.

Until then!

Well.....what can we say?

August 24th with Babar Luck, Julian Tulk and Jewels was truly an unbelievable success.  Thank you not only to the artists who played, but also to all the people who came to watch.  There were even some faces we've not seen for quite a while in the house that night!

Jewels blew people away with her beautiful voice and acoustic set.  We have every intention of bringing her back to Newbury very soon with her full band, Jewels and the Jacuzzis - watch this space!

Next up - the more than welcome return to Newbury for Julian Tulk, who was supported by (an almost) full band.  Sadly Pete was missing from the line up due to a family bereavement.  Our very best wishes go out to Pete and his family.  We hope to have you come down and play soon.  In the words of Freddie Mercury....the show must go on, and Joolz with Will and Griff delivered an outstanding set to an audience who had clearly been waiting for this homecoming gig.

Headline?  Who possibly could after this little lot.....but yes, Babar Luck was ready in the background to take to the stage.  This guy really is talent personified!  His ability to tell a story, get a message across in a song and improvise to the vibe of an evening without detracting from his job of entertainer is outstanding.

Of course, we should also mention the success of two of our very good friends, Winnie and Laura who travel to Uganda in October as part of a charitable group who will be supporting the local community during their time there by installing water tanks, building essential structural buildings including school rooms.  Winnie and Laura collected £195 (including €25).  Aside from the money, they also spread the word about the aid required to help in the Mityana Diocese.  CDs were kindly donated by the artists, as well as signatures on a "Team Uganda 2007" T-shirt to go with the Fair Trade produce and other goodies as part of a hamper which was sold at a silent auction.

We'll be keeping you up to date with details of how things go!

In the meantime, thanks once again to all involved (including Grant, our sound man and dabaDanselecta who worked the decks between sets) for making this a fantastic evening.

Until next time.......

Tuesday, August 21, 2007
For those of you who are attending this weeks Pooka Promotions gig to enjoy the rather spectacular line up, we have a little request to make of you.

Winnie and Laura are heading off to Uganda in October as part of a group who will be installing water tanks and building and decorating school rooms in the Mityana Diocese.  To aide this project, not only is cash required to help, but the little materialistic things that we all take for granted; old reading glasses (any condition!!), pens, pencils, notebooks, colouring books, crayons, hand tools...........the list goes on.

Winnie and Laura will be setting up an information stall at the Babar Luck, Joolz & Jewels gig on Friday night with collection buckets for cash and crayons.  Have a dig around and see if you have anything you may be willing to donate - even if it's just a pen or the price of a pint in the cash bucket!

See you all there!

Doors at 8pm
Entry £4
