THE SLICK RICK SHOW from the eyes of R.E.U.B.(after you read this, feel free to leave your comments on the show, and or react!)
Okay, first things first: The Ruler's jewelry is even more ridiculously gaudy in person than it is on MTV; if that is even possible.
I walked into the VIP room guarded by 3 of Ned Divine's biggest and most "eager-to-beat- your-ass" bouncers, with a big silly ass smile that I was trying to wipe off my face but couldn't. The school boy grin was a permanent fixture, for obvious reasons, but also because of what had just happened moments before.
I had got off stage and made my way to the bar to drink my beverage of choice, a "
Heaven on Earth" or "
Mother's Milk" as I have recently renamed it. Pretty Tony ordered the drinks as people came by and showed big love to me about my set. It was a great moment for me indeed. We grabbed our drinks and strolled for no more than a minute or two before we bumped into the show promoter. He dapped me up and showed love for my performance then asked me if I wanted to meet Slick Rick. The question was obviously rhetorical but I still said something to the effect of "DAMN RIGHT!" On our way upstairs, I was told that The Ruler watched and was really feeling my performance. I nodded in agreement, but I also kind of took it with a grain of salt. I figured that he was gassing me up a little bit because of the debacle that took place at the beginning of my set. It was one hell of a disaster, involving Serato, microphone feedback, misplaced bass amps, and just plain confusion.
Short and Sweet! I'm not sure why I was only billed to do a few songs but it is what it is, I guess. The crowd wanted more and the promoter apologized to me afterwards; so it's all good. At any rate,
the energy in the air was more powerful than the perfume at a Baptist Church on Easter Sunday.
I stood on stage waiting! Waiting anxiously, waiting on the world to change (which I didn't perform that night), waiting for the crack head lady on stage to get yanked the "F" off (even though she had me damn near in tears laughing); waiting for what seemed like forever, as I tried not to look annoyed. In my experience most crowds would have gotten tired of waiting and quickly left the stage area, but not them; they were troopers. This is the type of crowd you love to rock with. From the second that they gave me the green light to start my show: it was on! I gave them 200% and they gave it right back; with 20% interest! They sang the hooks, they chanted the chants, pumped their fists, and they even danced (imagine that)! Despite the sound man being straight out of Amateur Night at the Apollo, It was a great time! I couldn't even stay heated about the sound fiasco. I was just happy that it all got worked out before
Slick Rick hit the stage and crushed the building with the classics! Plus for real for real, they brought SLICK RICK to Virginia, right after he was spotlighted on the VH1 Hip Hop Honors; that's a great look for VA!

Big love my team (Ajani, Olawale, ROE, Version 21, Brose, Scoob), to Slick Rick, to the promoters, Team Demolition, Flex Mathews, and last but certainly not least: everyone in THE CROWD!
