Yes, it's that seasonal time again (nearly) & what could be more snuggly & homely than a night of being battered to bits by a tonkin' big PA, a blinding extravaganza of a lightshow, Snowstorms, Burlesque Dancers, a flurry of yuletide pyro & some bloke talkin' shite for a few hours? Tickets (tenner each) go on sale from Fri 9th Oct at Hark to Towler, Tottington & Vibes Records, Princess Parade, Bury. There may be a small booking fee at Vibes - not sure yet. Alternately, you can live dangerously close-to-the-edge & pay on the door, on the night. If you need any more info please feel free to message me (Jon Hanson, Manchester) on Facebook, message me on this myspace, email hark2towler@aol.com or even txt or ring: 07976 480523 Job's a good 'un! Much muchness & a thousand hugs Jonny (Captn) Brent

As far as 09 is concerned we are almost booked up - that's that. There are plenty of Thursdays free but unless you've got a local following or are a 'name' there's little point in taking one. If you're interested in playing here in 2010 please email me (Jon) at: hark2towler@aol.com around Sept/October - just send your web address - that's all I need. Please don't ring us - can you believe I've had bands ringing for a gig at 9pm on a Saturday night?!!! What is that all about? So, we're a venue & it's Saturday (or Friday) ...what kind of mind thinks that'd be a good time for me to nip upstairs (while I'm doing the sound for the band) & check through our dates & organise a gig for them? It bloody beats me I'll tell ya. If you really want to play here, please also take the time to suss what we're about - much like you'd do if you were going for a job interview. Read the Gig policy, read the "Barred songs" Blog, understand that we are not a cabaret pub or some kind of 'wedding' venue! We want good, original music or good, well presented tributes or good, well thought out covers. We don't want under rehearsed bands that sound great on myspace but can't quite carry it off when it comes to playing Live. This is our livelihood - we're not a rehearsal studio. I'm going to be far pickier when it comes to our 09 shows so don't be offended if you put a request in for a gig & I don't get back to you - it just means I don't think that particular act is suitable for our place & with the number of requests we get I obviously can't be replying in detail to everyone. I hope you can sympathise with all this - it's really becoming quite a task. By the way, to save everyone a lot of time: we don't do... Dance, Rap/Hip Hop, Intense Metal with lots of gutteral growling, Cabaret. We do do: Rock, Metal, Folk, Soul, Reggae, Indie, Alternative, Punk, World, Pop, Blues, Jazz & anything else that's tasteful :) Ta for reading - Jon X

Hark to Towler stages shows regularly - every Friday & Saturday nights. Sometimes on a Sunday or even a Tuesday & maybe a Thursday but always Friday & Saturday. We only pay the Saturday bands (& name bands on other nights), as we know, within reason, that they will fill the place & as we don't charge on the door (unless it's a 'name' or a tribute or summat) we NEED to have the place filled so we can make a profit & carry on trading! Our overheads are massive but we soldier on because we LOVE music! As long as we get to eat, drink & have a cig - fine. But we don't want to be losing out. No. Therefore, if you're a band wanting to play here & no one has heard of you, then we are here to give you a chance & get your music across to a few people that otherwise wouldn't have heard of you...but we can't pay you because it just doesn't make financial sense. We can however supply a full, belting PA, microphones, lightshow, Sound Tech (me!) ...even fog! Then we'll do all we can to publicise your gig (not like a lot of venues who can't even be arsed to put your posters up, let alone actually design & print some for you) we'll do in-house TV ads, ads on our 2 websites, publicity in all the local papers + The Fly, Kerrang (where applicable) NME , The Mirror - wherever we can. If everyone loves you - we'll re-book & pay you next time! We did all this for The Wombats & look at em now! Yes, it's all down to us! Ha! Ha! Maybe not, but we did at least get some bods along to see them when nobody knew who they were. And designed their posters. And TV ads. So, you see, it can be worth it. Do something for the Love of it & hopefully something good will come out of it in return. I'm still waiting but y'know, I've got 'til I die :) One thing we have never done is supply Free Drinks. Sorry, again, this kind of thing eats into essential profits. I do feel a bit tight sometimes but once I bear in mind that we need every penny to keep the place afloat I realise it's not tightness - just common sense. I hope this has not diminished your enthusiasm for wanting to play at the hoariest Pirate Pub in, erm, Bury - oh & while I'm on - no DIVAS! "Rock Star" behaviour is not accepted here - tantrums, sulks, demands etc. We don't mind you being a Rock Star onstage...that's it really. :) Until the next bloody Blog...Peace, peas, pies n Pirates - Jon XxX PS: IF WE DON'T GET BACK TO YOU, IT MEANS WE EITHER THINK YOU'RE UNSUITABLE FOR THE VENUE (which doesn't mean we think you're shit - just not suitable for what our punters are into) OR YOU'RE JUST NOT READY YET. WE WOULDN'T WANT IT ALL TO END IN EMBARRASSMENT! SAVVY?
