"President Obama is being called a “socialist” who seeks to destroy capitalism. Why? Because he wants to raise the tax rate on the highest-income Americans back to, um, about 10 PERCENTAGE POINTS LESS than it was for most of the Reagan administration."

If you want to "protest" that, the chairman of Exxon-Mobil thanks you...!

Conservatives cherry-pick 1930s unemployment figures in continued assault on New Deal.

Columnists Mona Charen and George Will continued a trend among conservative media of responding to comparisons between the current economic situation and that of the 1930s and between Barack Obama and FDR by attacking the New Deal.

In separate columns, both Charen and Will cherry-picked unemployment figures to assert that the New Deal did not reduce unemployment.

But historians and progressive economists have noted that unemployment fell every year of the New Deal except during the 1937-38 recession; further, Nobel-laureate Paul Krugman has said it was a reversal of New Deal policies, not a continuance of them, that contributed to rising unemployment in 1937 and 1938.

Palin's Project List
Totals $453 Million

Last week, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain said his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, hadn't sought earmarks or special-interest spending from Congress, presenting her as a fiscal conservative. But state records show Gov. Palin has asked U.S. taxpayers to fund $453 million in specific Alaska projects over the past two years.

These projects include more than $130 million in federal funds that would benefit Alaska's fishing industry and an additional $9 million to help Alaska oil companies. She also has sought $4.5 million to upgrade an airport on a Bering Sea island that has a year-round population of less than 100.

Sen. McCain has made the battle against earmarks and wasteful spending a centerpiece of his campaign. He has never sought earmarks for his state of Arizona and vows to veto pork-barrel spending bills that come to his desk as president, saying these projects should go through normal budget review. And he derides the argument that states often make: that they're funding important projects.

"If they're worthy projects they can be authorized and appropriated in a New York minute," he explained on his campaign bus earlier this year, before Gov. Palin joined the ticket. "If they're worthy projects I know they'd be funded."

During an appearance Friday on ABC's "The View," Sen. McCain said Gov. Palin shared his views, and hasn't sought congressional earmarks. "Not as governor she hasn't," he said.

In fact, in the current fiscal year, she is seeking $197 million for 31 projects, the records show. In the prior year, her first year in office, she sought $256 million for dozens more projects ranging from research on rockfish and harbor-seal genetics to rural sanitation and obesity prevention.

When pressed about her record as governor, she said: "We have drastically, drastically reduced our earmark request since I came into office. This is what I've been telling Alaskans for these years that I've been in office, is no more."

Alaska's success with earmarks is due in part to the power of Sen. Ted Stevens, the top Republican on the Senate Appropriations Committee. The state's earmark requests stand out in part because its state government is among the wealthiest in the U.S. Flush with oil and gas royalties, it doesn't impose income or sales taxes. In fact, money flows the other way: Every man, woman and child this year got a check for $3,200.

The McCain campaign has also come under fire for saying on the stump and in TV ads that Gov. Palin killed the controversial "Bridge to Nowhere," a $223 million earmark linking the mainland to a sparsely populated island. In fact, she supported the project initially and killed it after it was widely criticized and Congress allowed the state to use the funds for other projects.

On the campaign trail, Gov. Palin has repeatedly attacked Sen. Obama on earmarks. "Our opponent has requested nearly one billion dollars in earmarks in three years. That's about a million for every working day," she said at a rally in Albuquerque, N.M.

Sen. Barack Obama requested a total of $860 million in earmarks in his Senate years, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense. That doesn't include $78 million for projects that were national in scope and had been requested by many lawmakers. Sen. Obama halted all earmark requests in fiscal 2009.

It is difficult to compare Sen. Obama's earmark record with Gov. Palin's -- their states differ in size, for instance, and the two candidates play different roles in the process. But using the same calculation that the McCain campaign uses, the total amount of earmarked dollars divided by the number of working days while each held office (assuming a five-day workweek, every week, for both), Gov. Palin sought $980,000 per workday, compared with roughly $893,000 for Sen. Obama.

" She then sacked the creamery board and replaced it. The new board, headed by one of her childhood friends, ordered the creamery kept open....."

Jim Carlton  jim.carlton@wsj.com

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin promotes herself as a small-government conservative. But when Alaska government officials wanted to shut down a money-losing creamery, the governor overturned the decision after dairy farmers near her hometown complained the loss of subsidies would cripple them.

Gov. Sarah Palin overturned a decision to close a money-losing creamery.

On June 16, 2007, Gov. Palin attended a rally by dairy farmers near her hometown of Wasilla who pleaded that the creamery stay open to help them and other members of the local dairy industry. "Things are kind of a mess right now with what's happening with Mat-Maid, and we're going to clean it up," the governor said at the event.

She then sacked the creamery board and replaced it. The new board, headed by one of her childhood friends, ordered the creamery kept open.  Six months later -- after the business racked up more than $800,000 in additional losses, according to state officials -- the new board ordered it closed again.

The candidate's handling of the matter has been fodder for some critics challenging her credentials as a self-proclaimed fiscal conservative. She has also been criticized for securing federal earmarks as mayor of Wasilla and, as governor, for raising taxes on oil-industry profits. "I think what happened here was her personal desire to satisfy a local constituency, versus what is right for the state," says Lyda Green, president of the Republican-run state senate and a political rival from Wasilla.

The McCain-Palin campaign wouldn't make Gov. Palin available for comment on that. But Brian Jones, a campaign spokesman, said Gov. Palin is a proven cost cutter who has vetoed more than $500 million in "wasteful" government spending and ordered state officials to cut back on earmark requests, among other things. "We will gladly match her record of reform and fiscal responsibility to either Barack Obama or Joe Biden," Mr. Jones said. Mr. Jones also defended her action on the creamery, saying the governor was acting prudently.

Supporters of Gov. Palin say she was motivated primarily by a desire to save the creamery's 70 jobs and help the handful of local farmers reliant on it. They say she helped keep the small dairy industry from collapsing by giving the farmers time to find new places to sell their products. "It takes good leadership to say, 'Wait a minute. Let's take a look at this before we shut this down,' " says Kyle Beus, a former local dairy farmer.

Matanuska Maid has had a checkered financial history. Formed by a farmers' cooperative in 1936, the creamery was taken over by the state in 1984 after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection following a legal dispute. One of the employees, Joseph Van Treeck, was named chief executive in 1985 and went on to run a mostly profitable business for the next two decades.

But financial conditions at the creamery deteriorated rapidly in 2005. The creamery, 20 years ago, depended on local dairy farmers for most of its milk. To meet growing demand for its milk, yogurt and other dairy products, though, Mr. Beus, who used to sell milk to the creamery, said the factory had to import most of it from the Pacific Northwest over the past decade. Until about two years ago, milk and fuel prices were low enough to support profits. But a 50% run-up in milk prices between 2005 and 2007 -- combined with soaring energy prices and increased competition -- sent Matanuska Maid into a tailspin.

After the state board ordered the creamery closed, Gov. Palin -- with an entourage that included her husband, Todd; daughter Piper; and representatives of the news media -- showed up at Matanuska Maid's two-story plant and requested a tour. Although the governor's office said at the time that the visit had been scheduled, plant officials said they got little advance notice. Workers told her she would have to be accompanied by Mr. Van Treeck, who was in a Creamery Board meeting at an Anchorage hotel about two miles away. After he declined to leave the meeting, board member Rhonda Boyles says she, Ms. Boyles, warned him, "Joe, this will be on the 10 o'clock news."

Within days, the governor replaced the entire Board of Agriculture and Conservation, which oversees the Creamery Board. The new agriculture board then appointed itself as the Creamery Board and named Kristan Cole -- a grade-school classmate of Gov. Palin -- as the chairman. The new board reversed the closure and removed Mr. Van Treeck as CEO. He filed a suit in Alaska Superior Court charging he didn't get what he was owed. The case is still pending.

Ms. Cole declined to comment on the suit. She blamed mismanagement by the past regime for part of its financial problems. She said the creamery failed to rein in spending, for example, as milk prices were rising. Officials of the old creamery board dispute that.

The decision to keep the creamery open at first looked good. In June 2007, it posted a small profit. But the next month, Matanuska Maid posted a $300,000 loss -- its biggest ever in a month. Ms. Cole attributed that, in part, to the cost of going through a near-closure. The losses kept mounting until the new board in December decided to close the business down.

When even Republican arch-mudslinger Karl Rove criticizes the McCain - Palin campaign's lies and distortions, now that is something new... ;)  Looks like ole' Karl taught his disciples a bit too well, the disciples now employed by the McCain-Palin Truth-Optional circus...

Rove says McCain ads fail 'truth test'
Former White House adviser Karl Rove said Sunday Republican U.S. presidential hopeful John McCain had gone overboard in some of his attacks on Barack Obama.

McCain has gone one step too far in his criticism of the Illinois senator who is the Democratic nominee, Rove said in an appearance on the Fox News Sunday program.
Rove said some of the Arizona senator's ads don't pass the 100 percent truth test.

New name for John McCain and Sarah Palin:

The Amnesia Twins...!

After all, John McSame couldn't remember how many houses he owns and his sidekick McSarah keeps  "forgetting" her initial support for the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere."
So, perhaps they do have their own real plan for change...?  Just give everyone amnesia, and we won't remember the recession, the lies leading us into Iraq, tax breaks for ExxonMobil, trade deals shipping American jobs overseas, etc., etc...

Think about this. You are the head of personnel in a big company. Doesn't matter what kind of business you're in. You are in charge of hiring a 2 person team to head up a very important project. You have narrowed it down to 2 pairs of applicants.

Let's look at the educational background of your two options.

Who would you hire, after comparing the shocking disparities in Educational Achievements?

Barack Obama:
Occidental College (Los Angeles) - 2 years studying Politics and Public Policy.

Columbia University (New York) - B.A.

Political Science with a specialization in International Relations.

Harvard Law School - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude, and also where he became the first African-American editor of the Harvard Law Review.

&

Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and a B.A. in Political Science.

Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Docto
r (J.D.)

vs.

John McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 of 899.

&

Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester

North Idaho College - 2 semesters - General Studies

University of Idaho - 2
semesters - Journalism.

Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester.

University of Idaho - 3
semesters - B.A. in Journalism.

AFTER ALL:
"Only in Republican America would a black man with a law degree from Harvard, 12 years in politics, four years on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and manager of one of the most impressively flawless and forward thinking presidential campaigns ever not be ready for the presidency while a white female evangelical with 19 months in national politics and a bachelors in journalism is considered "ready on day one.

Perhaps the best example of how phony the GOP's complaints were: the McCain campaign's cancellation of an appearance by McCain on Larry King Live because, they said, CNN anchor Campbell Brown had behaved improperly in interviewing campaign spokesperson Tucker Bounds the night before. They didn't really say what Brown had done wrong -- probably because all she had done was ask simple questions that Bounds couldn't answer. After Bounds said that as governor of Alaska, Palin leads the state's National Guard, Brown asked him for an example of a decision she had made in that capacity. He didn't answer. So she asked him again. That isn't inappropriate; that's exactly what she should have done -- that's journalism.

And that drove the McCain campaign crazy.

So, did all the complaints work?

Consider this: Wednesday night, Sarah Palin falsely claimed she had told Congress she did not want funding for the "bridge to nowhere." She didn't; that was a lie. Congress had said a year before Palin became governor that Alaska need not spend the federal funds on the bridge. And Palin had initially supported the bridge, not opposed it. And once she became governor, Palin kept the money. Palin's false claims Wednesday night were not new: She had said the same thing in previous campaign appearances since McCain picked her -- and several media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times had debunked the boast. But when Palin told the lie during her convention speech -- after days of McCain complaints that the media had been too hard on Palin -- those newspapers ignored the lie.

That wasn't the only false claim in Palin's speech that went un-debunked by the media. She falsely attacked Barack Obama's legislative record -- and media uncritically quoted the false claims.
She lied about Obama's tax plans -- she said he "wants to raise" them, even though John McCain's own economic adviser has admitted that is false -- and, again, the media repeated her claim without debunking it.

I heard on the radio today, McSame introducing McSarah at a rally in Wisconsin..., as "the most harmless looking vice-presidential candidate ever...."
Do What??? "Harmless," what a ringing endorsement that one is.
, huh?
Sounds rather demeaning, as if he was introducing his pet rabbit...
And the sad darn truth is that she is far from harmless. She is just another face attached to the right-wing prejudice, deceit and arrogance.

Harmless...? Ask Walt Monegan, the former head of the Alaska State Police, canned because he wouldn't be bullied by the governor, her husband, or her aids into firing her ex brother-in-law....

With apologies to anyone who actually believes the Obama trashing e-mails...  Oh gosh, now they've brought out the heavy guns.  The dreaded 'empty suit" allegation.  *Humming the theme from Dragnet, now the theme from Jaws*
Barack Obama is a politician, not a saint.  Show me a politician without flaw and I'll show you Mother Theresa starring on Broadway.  But Obama an "empty suit," as compared to who, may I ask…??  John McCain who wants to maintain that reputation as a supposed maverick while frantically kissing up to the hard-core right-wingers and taking his campaign right down into the Carl Rove gutter??  I admire McCain's service to our country in Vietnam, but with the turn his campaign has taken I would not endorse him for dog-catcher.  Or there's Milly-Vanilli Clinton, the phony voice of experience who couldn't tell the difference  between sniper fire or an eight year old girl reading poetry?!?  The way that the Dems in redneck nation fawned over Hillary Clinton made for a truly pathetic
sight.  That woman couldn't take a firm stand on anything if she was planted up to her tush in concrete!
After the recent passing of political journalist Tim Russert, a compilation of his interviews included very revealing clips with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.  Hillary was asked if she intended to run for president, danced all around the subject, finally saying she didn't "intend" to run.  (Heck, from the moment HillShill first ran for the NY US Senate seat, everyone knew it was a prelude to running for the Oval Office.  Then the year before running, aww shucks, she has no intention of running? Hillary makes Milli Vanilli look authentic.)   Barack Obama, in contrast was very direct and honest when asked if he was seriously considering a run, said "yes."  So whoever wrote that mindless moronic fwd. would have me believe that Obama is the "empty suit...?!?"  Get %&^*&*()(_( real.

Now for the other typical Obama bashing horse-exhaust….
If "they" were sending an individual as an enemy plant, don't you think "they" would choose someone like John Walker Lindh, the totally white-anglo California kid who was found fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan, someone with no Muslims in his ancestry to attract these kinds of questions and attacks...?!?

(In reply to someone suggesting that the media has protected Obama...)
Few things are more amusing than the conservative's World Champion Copout, blaming the *drumroll* "liberal media."  Earth to planet RightWing, come in please.  Have you paid any attention to who owns most of the "mainstream" media in America now…??  Rupert Murdoch, G.E. and other large corporations.  (Please, ask ole Rupert "Fixed News" Murdoch about that great prediction he made, the one about how invading Iraq would lead to cheap $20 a barrel oil…)

Was it "liberal media" at work when CBS edited Katie Couric's interview with McCain to cover, not one, but two factual gaffs he made regarding Iraq…?  A couple weeks ago, the CBS Evening News spliced video of an interview with Sen. John McCain, resulting in the removal of a statement in which McCain falsely asserted that the 2007 U.S. troop surge "began the Anbar Awakening." CBS replaced the false statement with an answer McCain gave to a completely different question. CBS' actions are especially troubling given yesterday's revelation that CBS also did not air another false statement McCain made during the interview, in which he said that Iraq is "the first major conflict since 9-11" -- apparently disregarding the war in Afghanistan and the price paid by thousands of servicemen and women from the U.S. and other coalition countries who have been or killed or wounded there. If McCain is the experienced expert on "national security issues," he shouldn't need help from network news to cover up his misstatements.
http://mediamatters.org/items/200807230001?src=cbs-0725-2

Does the "liberal media" include right-wing flunkies like Sinclair Broadcasting, the company which pre-empted a Nightline broadcast that was merely to show photos of the first 1000 Americans killed in Iraq, nothing more, nothing less.  Was the right wing that terrified to let us see the price of their arrogance??  Sinclair owns WCHS – Ch. 8 in Charleston, WV, God help us…

More "liberal media" on the local level…?  A group of stations in WV including WOWK are owned by a company called WV Media.  The husband of Kristin Farley, a former anchor and reporter at WOWK-TV told some friends of mine about a series his wife produced.  These were reports documenting the health and safety problems experienced by several area residents as neighbors of Massey Coal.  But WV Media owner Bray Cary is a buddy of Massey boss-thug Don Blankenship.  So Kristin's series was greatly watered down.  Parts of it ran, but it was in great part censored, not for any valid journalistic reason, but because of boardroom buddies scratching each other's back.  This case happened on the regional level here in WV, but do you seriously think the same think doesn't happen on the national level, with so much media ownership in a very small circle?  And of course Republican cronies on the FCC have gutted the rules that used to limit the amount of media power that could be held in one set of hands…

Obama too liberal?  Shoot, if anything he is not liberal enough...!  His health care plan relies too much on those blood-sucking leeches otherwise known as "the insurance industry" or "HMO's."  He is kissing up to the all-powerful-in-Florida Cuban exile lobby by abandoning his former belief that we should end the Cuban Trade Embargo.  (If you say that Communist Cuba deserves that embargo, I'll go along, but only when we also have an embargo against the brutal communist regime in China! instead of a $230 Billion trade deficit with the so-called People's Republic.  Embargo vs. one communist country, importing everything including the kitchen sink from another..??  The glaring lack of moral consistency in our foreign and trade policies is truly frightening.)

Obama isn't perfect.  Hell, he is a politician.  Last time I looked, neither Mother Theresa nor Jimmy "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" Stewart were running for office.  But the alternative to Obama...?  If you want more of the immoral favor the rich tax policies, if you love the trade policies that actually reward "American" companies for closing factories and shipping jobs overseas, making Communist China stronger and us weaker everyday, if you're all aboard with staying in Iraq for the next 837 years, then by all means, knock yourself out, vote for the Republican…!!  As for me and anyone else who wants an end to these travesties, well Keith Olberman isn't on the ballot and Ralph Nader has no realistic shot, so Obama is the only real choice.

One fwd. had a letter from somebody named Rich Carroll, with a reference to Iran, shortly after the fundamentalist mullahs took power...?
Perhaps many aren't aware of what actually led to the current government in Iran and all around mess in that region.  Iran was, for a brief period after World War II, a promising democracy...!  What happened to that democracy?  Well the democratically elected government of Iran dared to think that their own citizens should receive a greater share of the countries oil riches - instead of British and American oil companies making like robber barons.  The British plotted a coup in Iran, only to be found out and booted out.  Harry Truman, God bless him, refused a British request for the US to do the dirty work.  But then Eisenhower took office, and Ike's Secretary of State was a former oil corp. attorney...  So, in 1953 an anti-democracy coup was organized by the United States government, returning the Shah to power.  After another twenty-six years of the Shah's abuses, the religious zealot Ayatullah crowd were able to exploit the population's anger and seize power, the hostage crisis happened, etc.  But imagine for just one minute how much better the political and security situation could be if our own government had not once acted to destroy democracy in Iran - all in the name of oil company profits.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat

What blows my mind me about the traditional values right-wing is just how selective and narrow their application of "morality" frequently is.
I saw a flyer distributed by WVForLife, anti-abortion group, endorsing recently disgraced (and now defeated..) WV Supreme Court Justice Elliot "Spike" Maynard for re-election.  You know, that Spike, the jurist who was off having champagne breakfasts in Europe with Massey Coal thug Don Blankenship not too long before ruling on multi-million dollar cases involving Massey.  And yet the dear folks at WVForLife would have me believe that Spike represented "Southern WV Values" because he supposedly supported their stance on one issue.   A supreme court judge's champagne toasts in Europe with the state's biggest influence peddler are not in conflict with "Southern WV Values..???" How pathetic is that?  If that is Southern WV values, then please get me someplace that actually does have values, heck maybe the Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco...!
Obsession about abortion, but no concern whatsoever for simple ethics, how typical of some "traditional values" hypocrites.

If abortion is murder, then so is the use of deliberate deception to start a war, that is murder on the grand scale.  Murder of the brave Americans put in harms way by those lies, never mind all of the other victims of war.  Most of the traditional values cabal utter never a word about the immoral arrogance and deceit of an administration whose fmr. Undersecretary of Defense admitted that "Weapons of Mass Destruction" was chosen "for bureaucratic reasons*"main issue to use in promoting a war…?  Bureaucratic reasons…???  People are dying, and have been for over five years due to the world's most unsuccessful Easter Egg Hunt, and our nation's causus belli was chosen for "bureaucratic reasons"?  If that doesn't raise the bile in your throat, just go ahead and tell those six well-dressed men to go ahead and lower your casket...
* "WMD Just A Convenient Excuse for War, Admits Wolfowitz.". The Independent 30 May 2003. Rpt. at Global Policy Forum. 25 Nov. 2004 <http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/issues/iraq/unmovic/2003/ 0530wmdexcuse.htm>.

So much for their the high and mighty crusade against gay rights and anything bleepable on TV.  When the conservatives, (someone in addition to Chuck Hagel and Ron Paul) address the immorality of sending truly our bravest to fight and die for neo-conservative lies, then and only then do they deserve to be taken seriously.  Enough with the family values pharisees.  The next time someone you know starts to go down the pious cliché alley also known as "traditional values," please, take my advice and… run – like – hell…!   Hagel and Paul are among the very, very few current conservatives who do remember the old ideals of limited government, instead of being an accomplice to the Bush gang's expansion of government powers without limit...

I am sad that some of those medieval Obama bashing forwards have come from people whom I respect.  But I will pull no punches in rebutting any and all versions of these ugly, ignorant, useless, and pathetic smears, whenever they come my way.

Last time I checked, the Spanish Inquisition started five hundred thirty years ago.  The Salem Witch Trials ended three hundred and fifteen years ago, and Senator Joseph McCarthy's fascist fishing expedition ended fifty-four years ago.  How sad to see the same old ignorant commie/jihadi/heretic under every rock mentality surface again with these garbage anti-Obama forwards.
This whole "Obama is a Muslim plant or enemy agent" theme and all the rest of the vapid anti-Obama e-mails are just plain ignorant redneck nonsense, even more idiotic than believing that Bill Gates would send us each hundreds of dollars for forwarding some silly chain letter....

Gracias!

As Christians, we find John McCain's recent ad "The One" incredibly offensive. This ad tries to portray Senator Obama as some kind of Messiah and mocks those who support him as cult-like followers looking for a new Savior. Even more troubling, many view the ad as a dark attempt to portray Senator Obama as an anti-Christ figure.
Join us in calling on Sen. McCain to repudiate this ad and take it down immediately. Sign the petition.

Earlier this week, CBS Evening News spliced video of an interview with Sen. John McCain, resulting in the removal of a statement in which McCain falsely asserted that the 2007 U.S. troop surge "began the Anbar Awakening." CBS replaced the false statement with an answer McCain gave to a completely different question.

This misrepresentation of what McCain said left viewers with a distorted view of what the apparent Republican nominee for president believes about one of the most important issues facing the country. CBS' actions are especially troubling given yesterday's revelation that CBS also did not air another false statement McCain made during the interview, in which he said that Iraq is "the first major conflict since 9-11" -- apparently disregarding the war in Afghanistan and the price paid by thousands of servicemen and women from the U.S. and other coalition countries who have been or killed or wounded.

Hold CBS accountable for covering up Mccain's gaffs. If he is the expert on "national security issues," he shouldn't need help from network news to cover up his misstatements.

The next time you hear some conservative whine about the liberal media, please, sit down so that you don't fall and hurt yourself from laughing too hard.

Liberal media...?? Look at who owns the major media in America.... Rupert Murdoch..., G.E. Corp... "Liberal" media..??? CBS covering up McCain's gaff....?!?
Anytime that someone talks about the liberal media, ask them to give your best regards to the tooth fairy... For "Liberal Media" is on the same par with "Tooth Fairy" as far as myths go.

With apologies to anyone who forwards those "beware of Obama" e-mails....

If ""they"" were sending an individual as an enemy plant, don't you think ""they"" would choose a totally innocuous convert, someone like the totally white-anglo California kid who was found fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan, someone with no Muslims in his ancestry to attract these kinds of questions and attacks...?!?

Last time I checked, the Spanish Inquisition started five hundred thirty years ago.  The Salem Witch Trials ended three hundred and fifteen years ago, and Senator Joseph McCarthy's fascist fishing expedition ended fifty-four years ago.  How sad to see the same old ignorant commie/jihadi/heretic under every rock mentality surface again with these garbage anti-Obama forwards.

Right-wing flunkies like Sinclair Broadcasting, the company which pre-empted a Nightline broadcast that was to show photos of the first 1000 Americans killed in Iraq, nothing more, nothing less.  Was the right wing that terrified to let us see the price of their arrogance??  Sinclair owns WCHS – Ch. 8 in WV, God help us… Another group of stations in WV including WOWK are owned by a company called WV Media.  I have some friends who are close relatives to the husband of a former anchor and reporter at WOWK-TV.   She told them about a series she produced documenting several area residents and the health and safety problems they were experiencing as neighbors of Massey Coal.  But it just so happens that WV Media owner Bray Cary is a buddy of Massey boss-thug Don Blankenship.  So her series was greatly watered down.  Parts of it ran, but it was in big part censored, not for any valid journalistic reason, but because of boardroom buddies scratching each other's back.  This case happened on the regional level here in WV, but do you seriously think the same think doesn't happen on the national level, with so much media ownership in a very small circle?  And of course Republican cronies on the FCC have gutted the rules that used to limit the amount of media power that could be held in one set of hands…

What gags me about the so-called traditional values set is just how selective and narrow their application of "morality" often is.
I saw a flyer distributed by WVForLife, anti-abortion group, endorsing recently disgraced (and now defeated..!) WV Supreme Court Justice Elliot "Spike" Maynard for re-election.  You know, that Spike, the jurist who was off having champagne breakfasts in Monaco with Massey Coal thug Don Blankenship not too long before ruling on multi-million dollar cases involving Massey.
Obsession about abortion, but no concern whatsoever for simple ethics, how typical of many "traditional values" hypocrites.

Undersecretary of Defense admitted that "Weapons of Mass Destruction" was chosen "for bureaucratic reasons*" as the main issue to use in promoting a war…?

When the conservatives, (someone besides Chuck Hagel and Ron Paul) address the immorality of sending truly our bravest to fight and die for neo-conservative lies, then and only then do they deserve to be taken seriously.  Enough with the family values pharisees.  That act has gotten old.  The next time someone you know starts to go down the pious cliché alley also known as "traditional values," please, take my advice and… runlike
hell!   Hagel and Paul are among the very, very few current conservatives who do remember the old ideals of limited government, instead of being an accomplice to the Bush gang's expansion of government powers without limit...

The Rich Carroll letter's reference to Iran, shortly after the fundamentalist mullahs took power...?

But the alternative...?  If you want more of the tax cuts aimed primarily at the rich, if you love the trade policies that actually reward "American" companies for closing factories and shipping jobs overseas, if you're all aboard with staying in Iraq for the next 837 years, then by all means, knock yourself out, vote for the Republican…!  As for me and anyone else who wants an end to these travesties, well Keith Olberman isn't on the ballot and Ralph Nader has no realistic shot, so Obama is the only real choice.

I am sad that some of those medieval Obama bashing forwards have come from people whom I love and respect.  But I will pull no punches in rebutting any and all versions of these ugly, ignorant, useless, and pathetic smears, whenever they come my way.

This whole "Obama is a Muslim plant or enemy agent" thing is just plain DUMB, worse than anything I've ever seen on the internet, yes even more idiotic than believing that Bill Gates would send us each hundreds of dollars for forwarding some silly chain letter....

Gracias!
