Rockin' out of Newark, Delaware's growing jamband scene, Mad-Sweet Pangs is tearing up the jam-scene. This independent jamband has opened for the likes of the Hackensaw Boys, Jonathan Rice, and The Bridge, won best jamband in the Delaware Music Awards, was named best new band on Wilmington radio, was featured on ABC, and toured for the first time culminating in a July 4th bash on the steps of Boston's City Hall. Did we mention all of this happened just in one year! Actually, we stumbled upon Mad-Sweet Pangs long before In The Jam even existed. We were immediately impressed by their song writing skill. Their vocals can be described in one word, incredible. One listen to any song and you know exactly why this band is catapulting through the jam-scene at an incredible rate. They're inspiring lyrics ironically flow mostly from just observations of daily events and feelings. This explains why audiences are so readily able to connect with their songs. These daily observations coupled with the member's love for reading and their close examination of the relationships in their lives, lead to very refined lyric crafting which can be rare amongst jambands. We really can't state it any better then bass player and vocalist, Dustin, of MSP put it, "We…strive for strong, progressive composition. Lyrically, we put a lot of time in because every word is very important. Lyrics aren't arbitrary; they are very loaded language, often of strong feelings. Finding the right word for a strong feeling isn't always easy, but the songs wouldn't be rewarding any other way". In short, the lyrical mastery of Tom Waits couples with Phish's instrumental prowess and The Band's song-writing genius to allow a MSP song to rise above the music out there. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for their new album coming out soon and check these guys out at a live show. If you miss them you will definitely start suffering from some serious mad-sweet pangs.

Mad-Sweet Pangs were recently featured on 6ABC (Philadlephia) as part of the tuned-in series.  The network has been featuring the region's emerging bands and showed us some love.  You can check out the interview (as it was seen on ABC) and performances at Grape Street Pub by clicking here.

In the beginning…………………………………………………………………………………………..    Zeus was ambling out of his house towards the street when he noticed the boot on his front driver's side tire.  Without saying a word he opened his passenger door, reaching for the crowbar under the seat.  He moved quietly, and set to work.  Four minutes later, he opened his trunk, and threw the obtrusive metal instrument atop a stack of say, a dozen, others, similar in design and color.  This was June of '76 and ten minutes later he would be rear-ending D-Man's Toyota, totaling both their cars, killing both their full, nine-to-five workdays ahead…. It was the fog that blurred Zeus's already poor vision.  D-Man had neglected to replace his taillights.  Events coinciding, they stumbled out of their respective "cars kaput," and began to walk into the thickening fog….An hour later, lost, they heard the earth vibrating, thudding, now shaking as they approached the source, still blind in the fog.  A wild-man, thick-bearded and grisly, was beating mercilessly on a djembe.  "How Goeth your name?" Zeus boomed at the wild-man.  "Jordy's the name, earth-tones are the game."…   "Jeez Louis," said D-Man, "Anyway, wanna form a band?"…. "A Band?" Jordy replied, "I can dig, I can dig."  But in fact, he couldn't dig…he didn't even have a shovel…but he did have a keyboard, so they started a band...They pressed onward through the fog together….Minutes, no, seconds later they met a interesting little creature….well maybe not so much interesting and little as special and little…. "Hey buddy!" said D-Man…and the creature said "I am called J Funky Money, but you may call me Junky for short.   So God created Junkies and we are forever thankful.  Anyway Zeus yakked somewhere in there and needed a doctor.  "I'll call Dr. Beat," Jordy replied.  But Dr. Beat turned out to be a robot, so Jordy called up his boss, the boss, the boss's boss, THE BOSSMAN.  Legend has it that Bossman found his current drum kit in his attic, a skeleton seated in the throne, mid-drum-roll.  Later, out of the fog, they all called a number in a bathroom stall.  It turned out to be a trombone player's , and together they lived dapperly ever after.

Current mood:comfortable

This past month has been most excellent.  First, we made our New York City debut @ The Cutting Room which was loads of fun.  Thanks to our family/friends/fans for hanging out with us until the wee hours of the morn'.  We had a great time.

This past weekend was our UD Homecoming Show @ Deer Park.  There were so many good-lookin' faces from the past.  It was cool to see all you mature alumni.  Thanks for letting us share our new stuff with you.

And lastly, if you are "hip", then you most probably have an Ipod and/or Itunes.  You can now buy "Stumbling Through Blydepoort Canyon" (our debut album) off of Itunes by clicking here!!

Stay tuned for SkidFest, 8x10 club, and acoustic shows!

We'll see ya soon.
