On Saturday, July 28th, the normally quiet and perfectly manicured streets and shop windows of "downtown" Hossegor were exposed to a darker side... Michael J. Zepeda came to France with his "I Heart France-titled" Art Exhibition, which was all about. Well, we'll leave that up to the picture on your left and your imagination to interpret. And so, with the unmistakable scent of free beer being emancipated from its metal can captivity, vin rouge and sizzling avant-garde French hot dogs on offer, slowly but surely a wonderful mix of high society, tourists, industry people, girls with lots to prove and nothing to lose as well as the usual lurkers & suspects all assembled. Hell, even a few of the local homeless scavengers ascended from their subterranean prison caves, where the local gendarmerie keeps them until the last tourist leaves town come fall. Someone must have pitched a burnt saucisse (French for hot-dog) in their direction... Before long, a scene as if taken out of the "Night of the living homeless" unveiled itself around the garbage cans in our backdrop. Observing Mike Z's reaction to this, then looking at his art before turning back to Mike Z again, one needed not be a rocket scientist to figure out that this kind of audience was much more to his liking than say Mr. and Mrs. Fitzpatrick in matching golf-attire stopping by to see what all the fuzz is about. Michael J. Zepeda is a 27-year old artist from Carlsbad in Southern California, who's day job consists of working as a Senior Graphic Artist at Volcom US. His art and music preference might or might not be a direct result of growing up with the guys in Nihilist. In Europe, he is mostly known for his intricate AmsterdamnAm Poster and flyer, and for paying meticulous attention to detail. Skulls & roses are frequently featured in his works, of which many come in black and white. Thanks to everyone who came out to party with us on this night, including the homeless guys. For those of you who didn't make it, Mike Z's art will be on display at the Hossegor Volcom store until the end of August… Or check out more of his art at Volcom.com. Special thanks to Mike Z for coming to France, Suzuki for transport, the Volcom store and everyone that helped out. JP

Tokyo, Japan. 2007. VOLCOMICS art shows final stop. A great city filled with great people. This was the biggest show of the tour by far. Well over 1200 Volcom fans stopped by the smokey Claska gallery in the Ebisu district to check out our art and share a Saporo beer or seven. Too much to talk about so we'll let the pictures stir your imaginations. Tokyo from above. During our week there we were hit by an earthquake AND a typhoon. Zoinks! The Claska hotel/gallery/underground lair. Frenchzilla preps the tunes as the paparazzi wears hot pink. This is how the setup looked from a skateboard. Oh Daven, you RASCAL! Jamie doing a last minute piece outside the underground lair. French, Haccula, and Jamie. The crew eating glorious shabu shabu. Jamie and Eddie. Haccula gets masky!...masky? Jamie, Hovin, and Matt cruise through Shibuya. BOOYA! A couple days before the show, Jamie got a huge back piece from our favorite Japanese Featured Artist KANAME! And the night rolls in... Haccula get in the groove. French gets into the funk. Jamie gets into the mob. Kaname gets into the tattoos. Cute ladies. V for VOLCOM STYYYYLLEEE!!! Hovin gave away a lot of shirts to all. A very generous dude that Hovin is! "MAD PACKED, YO!" "MAD SMOKEY, YO!" "MAD FANS, YO!" After party! Daven. That man's name is Daven. Yes. Thats Daven. The next morning...shows done...hung over...greasy brunch! Thanks to everyone all over the world who helped make this first Volcomics project a success. Until our next art venture, which will probably be very soon, PARTY!

WHOA! Where have we been? We all just woke up from a coma a few minutes ago and have NO idea how much time has passed. Then the phone rang and the voice on the other side said "Hey this is the Volcom Art Loft ghost of Christmas past and we're partying here in San Fransisco and it's like, waaaay in the past! It's probably the future over there so you should get up from your ass and post these photos that we are taking now but would be already be considered yesterdays news over on your end. Ahhhh....Los Angeles. A fine town. Fine enough to host stop #2 of the Volcomics show. Hopefully you and your cronies were able to make it out for the festivities. Lots of great artists, skaters, partiers, and all around good people were there to get their free copy of the Volcomics comic book. Heck, even Neil Hamburger got his. And if you dont know who Neil Hamburger is then you best try to make it to the San Fransisco Volcomics show. That man puts on a mean act. But hey, thats enough of our blabberin'. We'll let the photos take over from here! The crowd in front of 126 La Brea. HI MARTY!! Xtreem signage. Dollin and Remy debate the significance of the Rococo movement. The man who made it all happen...Ethan F. Anderson. Check the color coordo of his bandanna with the art above his head! Color theory, BAY-BEE! Man, girl, Bratrud art. A plethora of visuals from corrupted minds. Travis Fudge art. Thats tight! Appleyard art from one of his many days on the road. Dubai? The lovely Dana and Mike Aho enjoy each others company. Aho and gang just got back from NYC. Judging from the smiles on their pale, hung-over looking faces this morning, I think it would be safe to assume that the show went well. Hopefully some of you got to make it out there. But don't worry if you didn't. Four more shows to go after this one! The hand screened 12 color Volcomics poster by French and Phillips. Setting up for the show. Bratrud looking pretty Samurai these days. Travis and Mel Travis Fudge drawings Mel Kadel drawings VCJ and a letter to Ethan Sieben 33, Emily, and Hovin art More 33 hijinx More Sieben hijinx Aho-jinx Mike Zepeda Ozzie Unknown, Fudge, Aho, and Sieben get interviewed. Actually, I think Unknown was asking the questions. But thats neither here nor there. Free freshies ready to be given out. The art lovers roll in And the Sieben drinks Isn't it akward when you are trying to take a photo but your camera is set to video and you had no idea? Nobody wins in that scenario. And more art lovers roll in Fudge creepy stares to his left The kids fight each other... ...and it's all Fudges' fault. One more crowd shot for good measure. Even the skate dudes made a cameo. Check their blog. www.volcom.com/news/article.asp?sid=&articleID=1881 Get ready for stop #2 on the Volcomics art tour. Next stop: LOS ANGELES Friday, June 1st @ Volcom LA Store, 8pm 126 South La Brea Los Angeles, CA 90036 323-933-2442 B DER!

Ok, ok, ok. So OBVIOUSLY this is just a scan out of a Japanese magazine. Our man 33 went to Japan last month with snow teamers Brian Iguchi and Jamie Lynn not to snowboard, nay, but to do some art shows. So what we lack in photographic evidence, we made up for in editorial evidence. Hopefully you can read Japanese cause this article is the Shittake! And if your actually in the fine country of Japan, go to your nearest mag stand and pick up the new issue of WARP. The one with the mean looker on the cover as pictured below. *First 3 people to tell us which frame 33 is in wins something ka-rayzie from us. Mean looker. Donde 33?

VOLCOMICS ISSUE #1 - INTERNATIONAL ART SHOW AND COMIC BOOK Volcom lauches a world-wide artshow tour and 60-page comic book in support of the biggest Volcom Featured Artist Series line ever. The project was born from Volcom VP Creative Director Ethan Anderson's love of the underground comic movement and looked to capture its raw energy and low-fi means by creating a comic book that is authentic down to the paper stock and page count. The comic book is over two years on the making and features legendary skateboard artists Jim Phillips and VCJ as well as some of the biggest creative contributors to skateboarding today - Michael Sieben, Todd Bratrud and Travis Millard. In addition to skate-art heavyweights the book features artists/athletes from the worlds of surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding such as Mark Appleyard, Ozzie Wright, and Jamie Lynn. There will be artists in attendance and a limited number of t-shirts and books to be given away for free at each opening reception. Volcom will be producing fifteen thousand copies of the comic for free, with worldwide distribution. The art show series will begin May 19th at Fuse gallery in New York City and will continue through the summer with stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo and London. The openings will include drawings by all Holiday 2007 Volcom Featured Artists, as well as scribblings by all twenty-eight artists that contributed to the book. The book and shows are an Art Loft release being curated by Volcom Senior Graphic Artist Mike Aho.
