I'm pleased and honored to announce that Your Wounds was voted best pop song of the year by the Portland Songwriters Association! The PSA has a yearly song contest where hundreds of songwriters submit their music to one of 10 different genres: pop, country, rock, contemporary christian, blues, folk, childrens, and instrumental. Songs are judged on lyrical composition, melody, overal strong structure, vocal ability, etc. The top ten from each category are then taken before a panel of judges and only one song is selected as the winner.
The winning songs from each genre are now competing for best overall song. Keep your fingers crossed! :)

Current mood: excited
Picture this: 3am mixing sessions in New York, nodding off in my chair while drool escapes the side of my mouth. Attractive, I know. Well, that's what happens when you try to cram a week's worth of work into a couple of days.
So, please check out the song that David (incredibly talented producer and all around great guy) and I have labored over for so long. It's called The Bird Song and it's the fourth song on my little player.
If you're a Suzanne Vega fan then you'll be pleased to know that her bassist is playing on these tracks. She let me borrow him as long as I promised to give him back.
And Joseph Arthur fans? His drummer man is playing on the full band tracks as well.
enjoy.
PS new pictures are coming soon! check back often :)

I just signed a petition to ask Congress to demand President Bush seek congressional authorization before considering military action in Iran. He is out of control, and we have to stop the war in Iraq from escalating into a regional crisis. Congress can do this, but they need to hear from us. Can you sign? PetitionThanks!

Momma says I have "different" talents as I stare at a blank screen, writing my resume from her computer. She says I’m not like other people. This makes me laugh on the inside. No, I was never very good at academics because I only cared about soccer and music. I was a crappy waitress: I had trouble reading my own chicken scratch and a horrible tendency to spill things on customers. I never measured my own intelligence by how well or how poorly I was doing in school. I never measured my success by the money left on the table at the end of the night. I never felt that my own self-worth rested upon somewhere between an A and an F or a nickel and a dime.
A: congratulations, you are a fucking genius! B: excellent job, give yourself a nice round of applause! C: ehh, you’re just like everyone else D: are you dumb? Or would you prefer the term “intellectually challenged”? F: You are a fucking idiot, there is no hope for you. Please jump off of a cliff right now! Isn’t that standard grading? It seems so. 10ip: You suck and I am a cheap bastard. 15ip: You forgot about the Vinaigrette, HOW could you forget about the Vinaigrette? 20ip: You have very nice “assets” *wink* call me sometime. Those were the tipping standards of my days as a waitress, of course from a sarcastic point of view.
The truth takes a little digging. Until you get out your little garden trowel and scrape beneath the surface, you won’t know fake from real. Once you do know what truth looks like, it’s easy to see what it *doesn't* look like and it may seem like common sense, but that awareness is crucial.
I thought it was time for a new blog, but this is far too much incoherent rambling for 3am. I hope everyone is happy and in good health. Goodnight.

Current mood: pensive
in my humble opinion it's a wee bit too early to start talking about Christmakah. But the season to be buying far more than a human could ever possibly need has begun. The holiday is inescapable; balls of folly are now overflowing in the aisles, 'fa la la la las' are being played in every store, sending subliminal messages to consumers: "BUY! BUY! BUY!" and it works. Maybe this is just me, but I was raised to appreciate hand crafted gifts more than some shiny object with a price tag. A gift that takes effort and thought has more sentimental value than a manufactured object stamped with a bar code that is scanned across a laser and bagged in one of the millions of glossy, garish red christmas bags, which look identical to everyone else's bag who is walking around in the mall, bumping into eachother like an angry game of bumper cars. Phew. talk about a run-on sentence. The best present I ever recieved was a mix CD. It was a mix complete with the gift-giver's favorite Ani DiFranco songs. At the time, I had never listened to her and I often referred to her as "Annie" (only in conversation with that friend because I knew it annoyed her and she made it a point to correct me, as much as I made it a point to mispronounce Ani's name). The gift was simply one CD-R, titled "Naked Little Me" with a handmade CD cover. On the cover was the righteous babe logo and a picture of the gift-giver (don't know why, but she thought she belonged on the cover). "Naked Little Me" was a well thought-out compilation which introduced me to one of the most talented singer-songwriter I had ever heard. The songs were arranged in such a way that made sense to me. Which brings me to my point: a hand-made and well thought-out gift that involves the giver's participation and requires creativity is the best kind of gift anyone can recieve.
PS- I really really want seasons 1 & 2 of the L-Word. Please have it wrapped in festive snowflake wrapping paper and mailed to me by Christmas. Thanks!

Got myself a brand new Taylor and she sings so sweetly! It was an emotional purchase, only my second guitar, and now my pockets are empty 'cept for a few light pics and some lint. This beauty will be played for recording and at-home use only, I've got another guitar that has taken a few beatings that will accompany me on the road. Oh, i just thought i would share!

Exciting news! I will be signing with record label AEIC which also hosts a non-profit organization designed to keep teenagers away from drugs and violence. When you buy my CD or one of the other artists' CDs, a portion of it will go to charity. As soon as we finish a CD, you will be able to download me on I-tunes, CD baby, or directly from the website.

I found this powerful message in a friend's profile. Feel free to repost.
I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.
I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.
We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.
I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.
I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me.
I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.
We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.
I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because of my sexuality.
I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.
I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.
I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.
I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.
I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.
