Current mood:  excited
Well, 2009 has been a strange year for all of us here at the KBSS camp. We busted out of the gate as a four-piece this season, played a couple of great shows with some amazingly cool people (Coffinsville, Tremor Christ, Azul, just to name a couple), we had a lot of fun...and then we took another break. Well, now we're back once again and we've returned to being the mean, lean three-piece rock machine that everyone knows and loves.
We'd like to welcome Jon Turley to our starting lineup this year, who has taken over bass and vocal duties for long-time friend Bob Sellers. Jon's been active on the music scene since the late 1980s and has played a multitude of instruments in a ridiculous number of bands including the late, great Frank, which my lovely wife, Rebecca, used to sing for.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to all our friends and fans for sticking with us all this time. And please check us out at the Crawfordsville Music Scene site where we have been featured as the artists of the month for October! Stay tuned for much more from the KBSS! This game ain't over by a long shot!

May 26, 2008 - Monday

Something weird happened to me on my way to rock and roll stardom, I got old. Old is a state of mind and certainly debatable to a point, but old as in being frozen in time mentally with an ever changing, fast paced world around me. There is a time in everyone's life in which they peak, now this may come sooner in life or later, but rest assured there will be a peak in your lifetime. For me, that peak of personal "coolness" came in the fall of 1991.

Something amazing happened that Autumn,  "hello  hello  hello hello".........I guess you could say that Kurt Cobain really DID have me from hello. That music was so fresh at that time, it was unlike anything else on the airwaves. We were being beaten over the head as a society with dance music and bubblegum appeal. My guilty pleasure is that I absolutely love POP music, much to the chagrin of some of my artsy fartsy friends. Nirvana had the power of metal, but delivered it with the polish of top 40 and it really hit a home run. Suddenly people were wearing flannel across the board and not pulling their hair out of their eyes. A cultural phenomena ensued and everywhere you looked, people looked like stoned loggers.

The voice of a generation was a punk ass kid who whined about everything from his parents to social norms and values. GENERATION X is what they called it, apathetic, skeptical and lazy were the tell tale signs of a new breed, a slacker generation. Nirvana took that stigma and wore it proudly all of the way to the top, finally, hope for all of us losers. What we found out was that WE were the cool ones and THEY were the sellouts. It was so good to be on the winning side finally.

We rode that wave for a couple years and then something unthinkable happened, Kurt was gone................WTF?    As weird as it may sound, that left a lot of folks without direction and questioning everything. It must be the equivolent of how my parents felt when John Lennon was taken from us. The irony of art and especially music, is that we identify with the musicians that write their lyrics as they somehow "speak to us". Music is the soundtrack of our lives. The loss of Nirvana was real.

The boys of KBSS are looking forward to our tribute to Nirvana this fall. We are going to do the album NEVERMIND and hopefully we can all remember for one night that music is forever.  We miss you Kurt.

KBSS is one year old.......Happy Birthday KBSS.
March 2, 2008 - Sunday

Current mood:  energetic
Wow, winter sucks! And I hear we still have three or four more months of it, cripes! Well, since the extreme hotness of KBSS makes us hate the cold, we decide to take some time off from lugging gear around in the snow and turn our attention to recording in a well heated space stocked with drinks and comfortable seating. So, we ripped out four of our favorite tunes in true D.I.Y. style at the KBSS studio (affectionately know as the "Pothole") and we are presenting them here on myspace.com for the first time anywhere. We'll have a CD release party somewhere down the line but now you can be the first to hear the new tracks for free right here on the web! For free! On the web! Can you believe it!?! So stop reading this blog right now and go listen to the new E.P. while we get ready to hit the road again with our gear in hand and our balls a-swingin!

Welcome to KBSS 2008!

Hey all you kickballers out there, how's it swinging? All of us here at KBSS want to send out a heartfelt "thank you" to everyone who has helped our little band out over the past 6 months, which includes: Chris Voglund & Good Vibes Recording, Chad Fording & Cific, Craig Schnarr & Steeleto, Bryan Denham & Hybrid Glitch, Fall of Nashville, The Joint Jumpers, Chad & everyone at Jerilee's (our home base!) all our friends and fans that came out and supported us, acted as camera-men, let us post on their myspace, bought us drinks, etc., and of course our families who are all unofficial members of the band. If we forgot anyone we're sorry and we suck.

We've got two more scheduled shows coming up to close out the year 2007 before we take a break for a couple of months to work on new material, do some recording, etc. The first will be Hoot Night at Hunter's Pub Down Under on November 3rd. The show starts at 10pm and we'll be going on around 11 o'clock. R.C. and the Tin Stars, who just plain rule, will come on after us. Plus, we'll be performing a very special set of tunes rearranged for the acoustic format, but ironically featuring electronic drums rather than the usual real-life ones that we use. Go figure. After Hoot Night we'll end this awesome year by playing our first out-of-town gig at Zanies Too in Indianapolis on December 14th, 10pm. The Joint Jumpers will be there so try to make it down, you will not be disappointed.

After that, well, the KBSS will be taking a short hiatus until about March when we hope to see all of you back in the crowd again, cheering on your favorite team...

Current mood:  exhausted
Hey thanks to everyone who made it out to the show last weekend, we had a kickballin' good time! Thanks again to Jerilee's for having us - in case anyone didn't already know, Jerilee's has been massively upgraded - I don't get out much so I think I was the last to know - anyway they now have a huge stage and a great little drum riser setup; they've remodeled the entire inside so it actually looks like a bar now, plus they added some stage-lights as well. Jerilee's Pub is now an even better place to hear your favorite local live music! Very cool guys! Thanks to Chad, Ron and everyone else!

Extra thanks also goes out to Chris Voglund of Good Vibrations Recording & the LML & Artisan Electric for hooking us up with his killer PA and even more stage-lights and for recording the gig and running sound! Did I miss anything? That's a hell of a guy, people! Give him a hand, please!

Finally, mucho thanks to Fall of Nashville: they were amazingly talented, super-nice folks, and they put on an fantastic show - all original music as well! Thanks loads for coming down from C-ville - let's definitely hook up again soon!

So, we've got an awesome little live recording from Jerilee's that we'll be passing out at the shows as sort of a souvenir for all you superstarrs out there!
For now, check out the pics, tunes and video from the show!

Thanks again and stay tuned to KBSS!

Well we are gearing up for summer/fall and the breakout of our band. I hope that everyone one of you can make it out to a show and we can all hang out sometime. Being in a band sucks unless you have your friends around and I feel lucky enough to have friends on stage and in the audience. I hope to see you all at Jerilee's on August 11th and we can have a drink together.
