Hey!

We're playing on Friday. With Fired for Walking. And Mr. Gnome. Show is at Rudyard's Pub (map). We're the first band, and we go on around 10 pm.

And later that night, we hear there's potential for snow.

There's nothing quite like the tradition of leaving the house all bundled up to see the Bright Men of Learning, and then the next morning'snow covers the earth like a warm blanket of rock 'n' roll goodness. You tip toe downstairs, reach deep in your stocking, and grab two asprin before sitting down in a soft chair to remember the previous night's catchy-as-hell musics.

Yep. We're playing twice this coming weekend.

Saturday, November 7th, we're opening a set at Rudz for two bands that generally rock a lot harder than we do'Ghost Town Electric and 500 Megatons of Boogie. To match their intensity, we're planning to play a set with a bit more giddy up than you're probably used to seeing from us, so definitely come out for less kind and gentle BMOL.
Cover is $5 and the show starts at 10:30. We're the first band, so don't dawdle.

Ah, but what if that's too late? Then check us out at Big Star Bar the next day. One of Jman's friends is having a party there and inviting all her friends to hang out. She also invited us to be the entertainment. This being a public place, you're invited, too. At this second show, we're planning to give listeners a preview of our upcoming record. We'll probably play all but one or two of the 14 songs we've recorded. Because we're the only band we might actually play a couple of sets. And our pal ADR is going to be spinning records, too.

Thankfully, the Sunday show should start in the early evening. Doors open at 4 pm, and admission is free.

FInally, I should note that if you miss us this weekend, you can catch us at the Westheimer Block Party on Sunday, November 15. We're scheduled to play the 5:50 pm slot at Helios upstairs.

If you're reading this in your feed reader or on Myspace/Facebook, you can't really see it. But we've redesigned our Web site to merge our old site with our Blogger blog into a brand-new, Wordpress-powered wonderland. If you were a subscriber to our old blog, you won't have to change a thing. The feed remains the same. We've also imported all the posts from the old blog.

Everything else is new, including our swell new banner and logo (good job, Chris!). This comes only a few days after our guitar genius, Ben Murphy, gave our Myspace page a good scrubbing and added some new jams. Because we've recorded a ton of new music and started playing more shows, we figured it was high-time we treated ourselves a facelift.

Finally, we've confirmed two new shows on back-to-back weekends in early November. You can get those details on the new Shows page.

As always, we hope to see you there.

Current mood:  focused
so after much debate and hullabaloo the bright men have offered up to you a taste of what we've been up to in the last few months of our semi-self-imposed hiatus. we've cleaned up the place and we hope you'll accept our invite to come by for a visit.

we've posted a track off our new john sears (grey ghost/carter brown) recorded EP. it's a three track disc recorded one afternoon more or less live to 8 track in our rehearsal space without much planning, effort or attention to detail. it was quick and fun and we think it shows. it was done quick dirty and simple from the recording all the way to the final product. a simple 3 song CD EP with homemade artwork you can pick up for a whopping $2!

we've also added a little taste (an early rough mix ) of a track off our upcoming 12" LP. mixing is wrapping up and we hope to have something in a warm vinyl package to put into your hands, should you be so inclined, by sometime after the first of the year. if you like what you hear, trust us, you'll love what ends up on the record even more! we've got 14 tracks in the bag so you can expect a few bonus tunes to pop up before long on our myspace page, stuff that might not make it onto the final 12".

additionally,  thanks to everyone who came out to our last show at rudz. our first in nearly 8 months!  best turn out i think we've ever had and of course a great deal of that is directly thanks to our buddies, the jonx and side arms who joined us that fine evening.

so drop on by, check out the tunes and say hi. we hope to be "getting out of the house" a little more now so we'll be posting shows as they develop.

thanks!

It's been a long time since we've played a show. It's been an even longer time since we released any music. This Friday, we plan to end both droughts with a show at Rudyard's celebrating the release of our new Champion Sound EP. This is what it will look like.

As for what it will sound like, well, it was recorded live to 8-track with my former roommate and recording savant, John Sears. So it's going to sound like three lo-fi, classic-rock jams. Two of which we've never, ever played during a show.

And speaking of the show, we're pleased to be playing with some good friends: The Jonx and Al Hendrix's new band Side Arms. Plus, our pal ADR will be supplying jams before the show and between sets. You must attend this show, right?

What's all this gonna cost? Well the EP is $2. The show is $3. For $5 you get the full BMOL experience. Can you do any less?

I look forward to seeing you there.

Note: The above mentioned EP does not include any of the 14 tracks we recently wrapped up recording in Austin. That will come early next year. We hope.

Steven Garcia is sick, so there's no Something Fierce, but I'll still get to see Ramon and the Linus Pauling Quartet play. That's really all I need. That and some Lone Star.

See you there.

The Bright Men of Learning have finally completed our first full length (second if you count Chasmatic's Kicker Wisdom. We're excited to finally let other people hear it. We've uploaded four songs from our self-titled debut to Myspace.com, where you can listen to them and iPod them or whatever.

There are eleven songs in all, but the hard copy won't actually be available until our CD release party at the Proletariat on May 13. CDs will be $5 at the show and $10 thereafter. We're issuing 100 copies initially. And we'll buy more if we're lucky enough to run out. Chris, our very talented and enthusiastic guitar player has also designed some CDs, buttons, and tee-shirts to mark the occasion. So we'll have those on hand as well.

Finally, I want to note all the really hard work Chris Ryan and Rene Cruz contributed. CR did a lights out job recording and mixing the record (with a little help from Eric Faucette). And Rene donated the superb artwork for the CD, and put up with all our changes and suggestions.

We hope you like it.
