So our "Vaudeville Spectacular" begins this weekend (sat 15th and sun 16th) and in addition to the already stunning lineup we have amassed, we've pulled a bit of a coup and managed to rope in the rather hilarious Perrier Award nominee, beardy Scotsman, Mr Phil Kay!!!! No excuses, get yourself along! Tickets are available on the door and when you consider a beautiful lady by the name of Cat Aclysmic is going to do a burlesque striptease while playing with fire you'll understand the £8.50 entry is a small price to pay... of course there will also be many other delights to entertain and excite you. Do it!!

You can't buy the whole band unfortunately... But you can get 'Jack' for only ten pence from the revolutionary TenTracks site. www.tentracks.co.uk is the place to go to get 10 brand new tracks from established and up-and-coming bands for only £1!!!!!! And they will be putting up 10 new tracks every month which you can then get for £1!!!!!! Now, I've already bought the first installment which basically means you cannot get better value for money. And you get a Diamonds track which is worth well more than £1 on it's own so it's win win win. So go check it out and support this innovative way to sell music online at a cheap price for the listener while making money for the artists. www.tentracks.co.uk
Cheers Andy

A couple of weeks ago the Jack of Diamonds got a last minute call to support Edinburgh blues legends Missing Cat at the Ark in Edinburgh. He called on his fellow Diamonds and took the 3 that were available to play. You can sneak a peak of the quartet playing two of the Diamonds' newest creations by copying and pasting this wee link here:

I was standing in 99 Hanover at the bar when a red haired man came over, he had an honest face and in his soft Canadian voice he said "this is going to be a bit random..." I smiled, intrigued as he continued "...Do you remember about ten years ago you were walking across the meadows at dawn singing your song 'Rainy Day Money'...And some guys drove by with a camera...?" It was suprising to me that I did indeed remember this meeting, not because it was a decade ago, but because I had been celebrating my birthday and had been utterly wasted on the night in question, I had left a party to collect my guitar and was on my way back when this big 4x4 van appeared and called me over. As I walked towards them I could see a big camera poking out of the window, so I just hammered out one of my rockingest tunes 'Rainy Day Money'. They seemed to like it and I went on my way, not expecting to ever see the footage. Ross Trip was the man with the camera and when we met in the bar, he told me how his flat-mates had seen the footage they made (driving round town after midnight with a camera filming random people) and had really liked the song I played. Months later some random girl comes up to me and starts singing my song at me, I couldn't understand how she had learnt it? She says "I saw you on that video my freind made". I can;t imagine what it must sound like as I was higher than Richard Pryor, but it will be pretty freaky seeing my young self now...Ross tells me his mother has the tape so he's going to send me over a copy when he gets home, mad how things go around... I was sitting in my living room the other afternoon having a quiet moment, when a Red Robin just flew in the window and across the room - landing at the edge of my hammock. He proceeded to fly from one side to the other surveying the space, and was keen to make the aquaintence of the two fake - yet brightly coloured birds who nest in my tree. (they and he were mutually unimpressed) Once tired of examining his image in a convex mirror for the first time he came to settle on the bookshelf at my side and we listened to Tom Waits sing..."HELP ME KEEP THE DEVIL WEIGHTED DOWN IN THE HOLE"...Like a whiskey soaked preacher who just made bail....The bird seemed to enjoy this the most, as I always say...Any bird who likes Tom Waits is alright by me.

This record is a belter, I was lucky to see them play it a few years back at the Tryptich gig...They are so dynamic with thier sound, big fuck off crescendos and sonic assault...and then oceanic silences and calm spells - They blew me away...I think this is their most focused album, it is a sort of musical tribute to the men who died on the Russian submarine (Kirsk) a few yers ago...they were trapped on the sea bed until they ran out of air...not as much fun as you'd think. At least someone made a thing of beauty out a tradgedy. I heard the new one but tis nowhere near as good.

Ayeeee, just re-read this killer book, anyone needing an escape from the mundanity will apprciate this one...there is dugs and adventure and card games and danger from all sides...teachers and false prophets, and it reads like milky, is like Kerouac meets Hunter S...and more, Dodge also writes poems - you can get them in 'Rain on the river' which has a collection of his work: The acceptance of death, clear down in our hearts, is the faith we bring to life that love may go on...The lustrous umber of decaying ferns, belled vermillion of the gooseberry bloom...Rain on the river..............................................Nice!
