DVS1

Organically grown in Los Angeles, DVS 1's first passion has always been music. She began writing her own rhymes at the age of 9. After coming back from college she was introduced to the legendary Project Blowed workshop, and soon after began hosting weekly emcee battles. Through this encounter she was able to start the most sought after event, "Female Perspective", which spawned the all female collective, The (SIS)TEM. DVS 1's commanding presence and confident "swagga" rhyming skills set her above a lot of female emcees in the game. Be on the look out for the Hip Hop Powerhouse.

The Oracle Jayne Doe has formulated a musical style that sets her apart from many artists today. Her mellow, laid-back melodic tones catch the attention of everyone who listens to her music. Her family oriented topics allow her to be related to by a variety of listeners. The influence of her idol, Nina Simone is very apparent in a lot of her music. Her poetic rap abilities can be compared to those of Mshell Ndegeocello and Lauren Hill. Oracle is an accomplished producer with a style that mirrors her melodic ability. Ultimately, The Oracle is in a class of her own. It is apparent that she is prepared for the music world, and she is definitely ready to reveal the unmistakable identity of The Oracle.

Every Week we will be featuring a Member from the (SIS)TEM in the Blog. We figured there are questions that some people might wanna know about us. So we are X-posing some facts about The (SIS)TEM.

This Weeks First Feature is Tee Lynn

Photobucket

As we've all heard plenty of times, one should never judge a book by its cover. And if anything, Lady Tee is the best example of that saying. Just like many other top selling rap artist, Lady Tee raps and performs all of her own lyrics. Reciting ghostwritten rhymes is completely unacceptable, and in her own words, "shows a tremendous lack of talent". Not only does she write her own lyrics; Lady Tee makes it a priority to stay away from the materialistic, violent, degrading, brainless rap. Instead, while using a straight to the point, non-preachy approach, Lady Tee focuses on sending a more positive message. With Lyrics like- Guys be confused. They got game and life twisted!/ Think cause you stack big figures that you gone hit this?/ That's ridiculous! Guys get dismissed!/ You couldn't get me if I was on your Christmas list - Lady Tee makes it known that she is far from your average, everyday, materialistic girl that can be bought. In another she says - I aint never shot nobody, never robbed nobody/ never stood on the block and served rocks to nobody./ But you know what? Hood boys still feel me/ and everywhere I go, I still get respect in these streets. There, she downplays the glorification of violence, and lets the listener know that regardless of what others say; you can still get respect without being a so-called gangster. With Lyrics like these, Lady Tee is guaranteed to give Hip-Hop of today's generation a facelift. Opponents will be forced to either step their game up, or respectfully bow down.

I know  we are all hurting, but if you can spare a extra $1 out of your budget it will be gladly appreciated.  If you need more details, please hit us up so we can explain. Jamaa Pende: Peace Kandi, how are you Queen?

Kandi Cole: E verything is love. It's been a busy year. That is a great thing. So I am very well these days.

Jamaa Pende: I met you on myspace almost two years ago and you were ready to change the rap scene back then. I could appreciate that you were striving to positively teach our people thru your rhymes.

Kandi Cole: Wow! It's been that long already hasn't it? Seems like yester-day. Well thank you for even pay-ing attention to me. I'm just ex-pressing myself. I'm glad to hear its being posi-tively received. I'm just someone who's always known the true origin of Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop was at one point the voice of our people used to reach out to our people and speak the language of our people. Now it seems Hip-Hop is simply speaking green. The Hip-Hop culture is so power-ful in guiding the influence of the young ones and our commu-nity as a whole. Right now we are experiencing the result of that power falling into the wrong hands. I just write and make music because I want to take my power BACK!

Jamaa Pende: So now you're in-volved with another project right-The(SIS)TEM . What is the (SIS)TEM and what prompted its forma-tion?

Kandi Cole: The (SIS)TEM is a collective of female emcees and pro-ducers. About a year ago a female artist, DVS 1, from the legendary Project Blowed in Los Angeles wanted to throw an all female show call "Female Perspective." Being a female emcee she saw that on the main stream, as well as underground, the women were-n't getting their just due. She de-cided to organize an event show-ing off the ladies' talent. By the time she reached the second one the roster for performers doubled. This prompted the idea to create an album of all female emcees because apparently there was an untouched fan base out there for it. We never knew there were so many hungry, motivated driven women all on the same grind. The (SIS)TEM is about 15-20 solo artists all coming together to push one goal; For women to gain the respect they deserve on the mic. You can call it "the female Wu-Tang" if you like.

Tru: That's peace. Project Blowed….the hip hop haven in LA. Yall taking it back to the root. A lot of dope mc's have passed thru there. Who are the producers of this project?

Kandi Cole: The production for The (SIS)TEM? You guessed it. Queens represent there too. All female production by 3AM and Oracle.

Jamaa Pende: Good to see the Queens working the entire pro-ject. What kind of music is repre-sented?

Kandi Cole: This is what we would call "classic" Hip-Hop. We don't have clothes and degrading themselves on the tracks. It's basically good music. There's so many sistas on the project that you can't help but have such a wide range of talent. We have singers, emcees, women who want to make the club bangers, those who want to speak a message....such a variety of talent.

Jamaa Pende:Who are some of the artists in the (SIS)TEM?

Kandi Cole: D.V.S, Me-dusa, Kandi Cole, Madam Brown, Miki Vale, Bliss, 3 AM, Shania D., J Roz, Jade Ross, J. Mitchell, Jade Ross, J. Natural, Oracle, Imiuswi,Rogue Venom, Ricoshade, Lady Tee...(if I missed anyone I still love you. there's just so many talented artists!)

Jamaa Pende: Dope, we need more positive Sistas in hip hop setting an example for the youth. Is there a tour in the works and if so when should we be looking for the (SIS)TEM?

Kandi Cole: We just had our first major show 7.29.07. It was the release party for our first mix-tape, "Female Perspective Vol. 1." The album will be out 2nd quarter of 2008, so a promo-tional tour will be in the works later this year to spread the word. Sistas coming together. definitely. I have heard or seen most of the Sis-tas on the project (most of them are Sista Ci-pher Queens) and they are all hot. So where can we go to purchase the CD?

Kandi Cole: You can pur-chase the cd atwww.myspace.com/the sistemishot OR www.projectblowed.com

Jamaa Pende: Thanks Kandi. Much success to you and the other Queens. Represent us well!

Kandi Cole: Thank YOU for shining a little piece of the spotlight on us. That's what The (SIS)TEM is all about. Queens working together!

Jamaa Pende: Peace!

For all who are inquiring about being part of The (SIS)TEM, first we'd like to say THANK YOU!!! Thank you for thinking this collective is worth being apart of. We try very hard to push the boundaries of where those think women in Hip-Hop should go. We plan to make our own way.

Second, we need to know if you have what it takes to be part of this collective. The (SIS)TEM is a host of female emcees who came together to put out FIRE projects full of originiality, creativity, and GOOD MUSIC. Do you have what it takes? Can we count on you to have the same drive as the other sistas on the project?

We'd like to hear from you. Keep in mind that The (SIS)TEM is not a group. We are all individual artists who decided to come together to make some great music. With that being said, we are branching out with (SIS)TEM chapters all over the country with the headquarters based at the legendary Project Blowed here in Los Angeles.
