I was honored to be a part of Berklee's forum on GarageBand!  It was great being able to see how GarageBand can be applied to real life musical situations.
Check out this awesome paragraph written about the evening.
Special thanks to Chris Fitzgerald for having me!

Trainer Chris Fitzgerald had to be a jack of all trades as he put together a demo based around vocalist Krysta Youngs' song "Silly Lives" during tonight's forum. First he gave a short background talk on some of the hardware and software necessary for working inside of GarageBand. Next, he sequenced drums and bass using the midi keyboard, which were subsequently quantized to tighten up the timing. Plugging in an electric guitar, Chris dived into the new amp and stompbox simulation feature in GarageBand called "Guitar Tracks". With the rhythm section in place, Krysta recorded her vocal part on top. Having reached the mixing stage, the tracks were blended together via volume and panning adjustments as well as the application of reverb. Chris even had time to go in and apply some creative audio editing and effect techniques to various tracks. Many thanks to our guest, Krysta for singing and also allowing us to use her track "Silly Lives" from her album Stories for the forum.

'Pretty in Pink' concert to benefit cancer society

by Timothy Flynn | The Flint Journal

Friday May 08, 2009, 9:57 AM

FLINT, Michigan -- The folks who brought you "Beauty and the Beat," the local fashion and music extravaganza, are at it again.

This time, organizers of the annual festival are ready to take on breast cancer. To that end, they're presenting "Pretty in Pink," a multi-band benefit concert, today at the Loft.

All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society, said local musician Babatunde Olaniran, who helped create the show as a member of the "Beauty" planning committee.

Fashion will once again play a large part in this weekend's gathering, via the participation of local businesses like Somerset Salon Day Spa.

Filling out the musical side of the bill is Olaniran's R&B electronica act Stereoluxxx, along with Detroit rapper Invincible, local DJ Wilfred Cyrus and Grand Blanc native/Boston transplant Krysta Youngs.

Tickets for the 9 p.m. show are $5 and $7. The Loft is at 515 Buckham Alley.

When: Thursday, April 2, 2009 @ 9pm

Who says you can’t have your cupcake and eat it too?  Cupcakes and Cocktails, an entertaining and delectable event, will be held at Johnny D’s in Somerville on Thursday, April 2nd at 9pm.  This favorable mixture of music, sweets and eye candy will include a box of Shadwell, a spoon full of Vanessa Kafka, a shot of Krysta Youngs and a few fiery surprise ingredients.   In a tart world, Cupcakes and Cocktails will definitely help the medicine go down.

Vanessa Kafka is all about taking chances and her Brewhouse Records debut, Into Place, is no exception.  Kafka fearlessly leaps into uncertainty and triumphantly lands right on her feet.  With a velvet voice and sturdy lyrical armor Into Place embraces broken love, recklessness and infinite hope.  Her lush melodies are as soothing as a milk bath and in this complicated time, her songs seem to simplify it all.  Equipped with an acoustic guitar, a flowery personality and a much needed message, Vanessa Kafka is ready to toast to new beginnings.

Shadwell is all about creating sophisticated rock and roll and they do it very well.  With Pulp Fiction-esque songs like By a Thread, their unpredictable sound creates an interesting intrigue unlike any other.  Channeling a bit of Brit- rock mixed with the band next door appeal, Shadwell blurs traditional genre boundaries but somehow manages to maintain perfect sing along choruses.  Their self-titled EP is just a quick preview of what’s to come. The band is currently in the studio recording new material for their much anticipated full length album.  With a loyal fan base and pure dedication it won’t be long before you’ll need binoculars to catch a glimpse of this rising band.

Krysta Youngs is a colorful, creative and complicated character, qualities all perfectly captured on her stunning debut, Stories. Youngs, fresh out of Boston via her native Detroit, is Beantown's answer to straight-shooting artists like Madonna, Pink and Katy Perry, only without all that superstar baggage. Krysta was recently a finalist on New England's very own Community Auditions Star of the Day and she's quickly making a name for herself through song placement on television shows like ESPN's Inside the Big East. Her songs—rockin', heartfelt, and literate—often pack devastating impact. Frankly, you have to see her to believe it.
