Current mood: disappointed
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Legendary pinup queen Bettie Page died of pneumonia at the age of 85 in a Los Angeles, California, hospital Thursday, a week after suffering a heart attack, according to her agent. Pinup queen Bettie Page was credited with helping to usher in the sexual revolution.
"She captured the imagination of a generation of men and women with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality," said agent Mark Roesler in a written statement. "She is the embodiment of beauty."
Page, said to be one of the most photographed people of the past century, became a recluse in recent decades. Yet, her images continued to be used around the world to market Bettie Page action figures, clothing lines and other merchandise.
"Her popularity as an underground, guilty pleasures phenomenon has continued to soar despite the fact that the reclusive Page disappeared almost a half century ago, leading many to believe that one of the most photographed individuals of the 20th century was already dead." Roesler said.
The Web site, BettiePage.com, logs about 20 million hits a month, Roesler said. A TVGuide.com poll recently placed Bettie Page as the "ultimate sex goddess," outscoring others such as Marilyn Monroe.
Page was born to a poor family in Tennessee on April 22, 1923. While her birth certificate spelled her name "Betty," she changed the spelling later in life to "Bettie."
At a time when few women pursued a college education, Page earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from Peabody College in Tennessee in 1944, according to her official biography.
Her teaching career, however, was hampered by her looks, she said.
"I couldn't control my students, especially the boys," she is quoted as saying.
After her modeling career ended, Page returned to Peabody College to work on a master's degree, the bio said. Her Southern drawl and a refusal to sleep with a Hollywood producer hampered her acting career, according to her bio.
"I didn't like his looks," Page said. "I wouldn't have gone to bed with him anyway. He was a creep. He drove off in his big car and scolded me, 'You'll be sorry.' I wasn't."
Page said she regretted not accepting studio boss Jack Warner's offer of another screen-test, but it came while she was trying to save her marriage to her first husband, Billy Neal.
Her modeling breakthrough began after she divorced Neal in 1947 when she met a police officer whose hobby was photography. He suggested the black bangs, which became her trademark, her bio said. Not long after, her images were everywhere, gracing magazine covers and locker pin-ups.
Page wore nothing but a Santa hat in Playboy's January 1955 centerfold. Playboy founder Hugh Hefner said her appearance in his magazine's first year was a milestone.
"She became, in time, an American icon, her winning smile and effervescent personality apparent in every pose," Hefner said.
"A kinky connection was added by Irving Klaw's spanking, fetish and bondage photos, which became part of the Bettie Page mystique," Hefner said. "They were playful parodies that are now perceived as the early inspiration for Madonna's excursions into the realm of sexual perversion."
Perhaps the most memorable photos of Page were her bondage poses, which she said were all pretend.
"I never understood how anyone believed those poses were sexy," she later said. "To be tied up? I don't get it."
"She was a remarkable woman, truly someone that changed the social norms, not only here in this country, but also around the world," Roesler said. "While Jackie Robinson was changing the racial attitudes, Bettie Page was changing our attitudes on sex. She became a James Dean type of 'rebel' figure as she allowed people to be less inhibited and look at sex in a different way."
Saucy photos of Paige in skimpy clothing or none at all helped to lead the way for the sexual revolution of the 1960s.
Page suddenly disappeared from the scene in 1958. It was only decades later revealed that she re-emerged to explain that she underwent a religious conversion and moved to Florida.
Her life took a dark turn starting in 1978 after her third marriage failed, Roesler said.
Page went through "some mental instability, violent mood swings, and serious trouble with the law" and was eventually diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, according to her bio.
Page reappeared in public in December 2003 for Playboy's 50th anniversary party, where she made a grand entrance with Anna Nicole Smith.
It was the only time in the past 50 years that Page allowed her photograph to be taken, Roesler said.
A private funeral service is planned for Tuesday. Page will buried at Westwood Cemetery in Los Angeles, just a few feet away from Monroe.

Current mood: blessed
As you all know, our older sister Rachel, had a kidney/pancreas transplant. She's a diabetic and this was the leading cause of her kidney failure. (On a positive note she has never needed, and hopefully will never need dialisis) The pancreas didn't last more than a day and had to be removed so unfortunately she is diabetic again. But the kidney is still kickin and doing great!
However, if you, yourself have ever had an organ transplant or you know someone who has, then you know that the medication (some must be taken for the rest of your/their life) is beyond expensive. Rachel does have insurance coverage but more than 3/4 of her medication/insulin coverage for the year is already used! Now, rachel has to take almost 30 pills daily along with her insulin! Stacy and I will be throwing a Benefit party celebrating Rachels wellness! All of the proceeds will go directly toward our sisters medication and home care. All are invited to celebrate with us! You're coming to support her will be greatly appreciated! The Date, Location, and Time will be announced as soon as possible!
Unfortunately we have been shopping around for nice places to have the benefit and places that are big enough to hold the amount of people that we expect show up. We found a good handful and have been sending emails to get price quotes. I'm not sure if we are just not getting our point across as to what we wanted to do (beef and beer) but the people running the bars are trying to charge us as if we were having a fucking wedding. Im thinking our best bet might be to wait til after xmas and new years and go to a local bar that won't charge to rent the space and cater it ourselves. We are VERY disappointed because we wanted to have really good food and top shelf alcohol for everyone. We'd have to get a third job!! LOL Bartending and Modeling just would'nt cut it.
Thank you!
Stacy & Megan

Rachel was moved to a different room today. Shes in Intermediate Intensive Care. Shes doing great, they had her walking today, she was a little dizzy but thats expected! She was back to her funny self again today and we actually saw her smile, which was something we've all been waiting for. They told her that she might be able to come home tomorrow and she said shes ready! Rachel won't be ready for visitors at home until she gets settled in but we'll be sure to let all of her close friends know when that is! Thanks again for all of your prayers and positive thoughts, they've helped a lot!

Current mood: optimistic
The surgery ended remotely successfully Sunday morning. Within a day or so the kidney was functioning well, however, the pancreas transplant was not working so well. By monday evening, Rachel had to go back into surgery to have the pancreas removed. Unfortunately, only 1 in 3 pancreas transplants will be successful in a new body. The bad news is, Rachel is diabetic once again. The good news is, the kidney is working well.
Today, Rachel was in a lot of pain and was having a lot of trouble with her NG Tube (Nasal-Gastro Tube: Enters through the nasal passage and goes down into the stomach) This has been days now shes been suffering, trying to accept the tube and finally today she got a new nurse who pushed to have the tube removed. The tube is gone. We cant begin to tell anyone how much of a relief it is for us and our family to see her finally relax. Although she is still not feeling well, she will be on pain medication. She should be starting physical therapy tomorrow to get her walking and moving, which will also help the kidney work. (Blood flow etc.) Please continue to keep her in your good thoughts and prayers, its working! We greatly appreciate all of you who sent good comments and e-mails. You really are helping us get through this a little easier. Thank you.
We will post more updates soon.

Current mood: anxious
Our family and us were due to leave for sunny California in 2 days. We have never been more excited about a vacation. We've never been to Cali. but had heard We'd fall in love with it. We had talked about moving our asses out there just for a new experience. Thank god we didn't pack yet...... As most of you know We have an older sister. Our older sister (Rachel) is a diabetic who's health has been going downhill over the past few months. In the winter Rachel was told that her kidneys were in the 3rd stage of kidney failure and that she would need a kidney, as well as a pancreas, transplant. (For anyone who doesn't know the pancreas creates insulin in your body which keeps the sugar in your blood at a balanced level, with a disfunctioning or non-functioning pancreas you become diabetic, hense why they have to take insulin) Up to today Rachel has been on the transplant list and is now at the top of the list. Her kidneys are in the 4th stage of kidney failure, there are only 5 stages. Yet, still everytime We see her she is smiling. She doesn't look sick and she doesn't act sick. Other than this she is in perfect health! But anyway, lets get to the point...
This morning we got a phone call from the transplant doctor claiming that they may have a possible donor for the kidney and pancreas! We all got excited, but at the same time...upset. We'd been waiting to go to California for so long and now here it is two days away and we won't be able to go. :( At the same time we all realize that this is meant to be and is something that needs to be taken care of ASAP. So here we are today, its 2:30pm Saturday, July 26, 2008. Rachel and our mother just left for the hospital and we will be behind them shortly. Rachel will be getting her surgery today both a kidney and a pancreas. This means when she wakes up, she won't be diabetic anymore! Life is changing by the minute, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers! Thank you! <3

One thing we have always loved about MetalHeads... most of us are open minded, accepting and NOT judgemental. We don't ask anything of eachother, but to be true. One of the best things I have ever read was a quote on a bathroom wall in a bar that read "BE WHO YOU ARE AND SAY WHAT YOU WANT. THOSE WHO MIND DONT MATTER AND THOSE WHO MATTER DONT MIND" That is SO true. The people who matter to YOU won't care that you have tattoos or crazy hair or listen to insanly heavy music because they care about you. The last thing you would ever expect is to be judged by one of your own. Right?
You were wrong. Now I'm sure we are not the only young Metal Heads who have been subject to this criticism. One of us was approached the other night, at a metal show. Not naming names this guy started questioning. Quizzing, almost. "What is this bands first albums name.. who originally played guitar for this band?" yadda yadda yadda. Metal Twins? Pssssshhhhhh.
At first I thought to say "Wow are you the author of the Metal Encyclopedia? I'm sorry I havent read your book yet!" Under the title "The Metal Twins", we never knew that our contract automatically states that we must know every in and out about metal as well as every known artist, their albums fav. food, color of their bedsheets, social security number! (yes I'm being sarcastic) ha ha!
The point is, MetalHeads...don't let people judge you for not being an expert on Metal. It doesn't make you less of a fan or even less passionate about then others. It makes you, YOU! No one is perfect and no one will EVER BE perfect! Be yourself! Don't EVER let someone question who YOU are and YOUR preferences!! Stay Brutal!!!
