Current mood:  nostalgic
Check out our website: www.PortHuronStatement.com for a re-cap of the Man of the Match gala.  We can't thank everyone enough for the surprisingly huge turnout and the overall incredible vibe of the night.  What a night.

We hope to have some video footage in the coming weeks to help everyone with their PHS withdrawal symptoms.

Speaking of video, I'd like to personally thank Matt Williams for all his hard work on the movies projected behind the band for this show.   By the way, this is not the former 3rd baseman for the Giants and Indians, but rather our bassist's brother, a darn talented video editor and finder of surreal and creepy archival government footage.   Thanks Matt!

Hello, I Must Be Going

You are cordially invited to join us on Saturday, April 19 at The Pour House Music Hall in Raleigh for The Port Huron Statement's farewell show.

I know, I know, settle down, this is gonna be rough on all of us.  But there are benevolent forces pulling the 4 astronauts of the PHS in many directions and as a result we've decided to take one final voyage on this ship.

The show will be a celebration of our finally completed third album, Man of the Match.  We're playing the album start-to-finish and have some great treats in store for the show.  We've added some musicians (piano, horns, cello, banjo) and we've added the visual element of a movie screen behind us.  It is unclear what will be shown on the movie screen but it will probably be some combination of NASA footage, and home movies of the early days of the PHS playing in the Cavern in Liverpool.

Everyone that comes to the show gets a FREE Man of the Match CD.  We also have some tasty new T-shirts, and depending on alcohol intake, they may end up being free as well.

So come on out!  We've got our great friends Richard Bacchus, Wembley, and Regina Hexaphone on the bill as well.  Richard gets things started at 9pm.  Cover is five measly dollars.

 Godspeed PHS,
Mr. Neutron

As members of the PHS continue to teach the youth of America, turn the Denver restaurant scene on it's ear, tour with Maple Stave, and have children, we would like to assuage the masses with 4 recently mixed songs from our forthcoming album.

For now, dig the tunes as you patiently await a 2008 release, replete with maudlin songs of astrounaut love and one man's place in the cosmos.  We're planning a CD release party that will make a Pink Floyd show look like a junior high band concert.  Watch out fuckers.  We love you.

Thanks to all that rocked with the PHS in Raleigh and Boone.  Both shows were fun, but as Matt so succinctly put it:  in Kung Fu terms, the Raleigh show was "Enter the Dragon" and the Boone show was "Beverly Hills Ninja."

PHS is sort of like Tom Waits in that we hardly ever play out, so if you want to see us, ya better do it in April.  Unlike Tom Waits though, tickets should be relatively easy to come by and we will probably not render our greatest hits unrecognizable with jazz-y improvisations.

As an aside....we are saddened by the closing of Kings Barcade.  If we had a "home" venue, it would be Kings.  We first played there way back in 01 when it was just me, Todd, and a drum machine.  Those guys were always good to us and have been the most important local music venue of the last 10 years.  Grayson Currin wrote a nice piece in this week's Independent. Word has it they're looking for new digs to re-open soon.

Warm Regards,
The PHS

ps....recording for new album is done.  Mixing and mastering next.  Eventually.

I know it's not much, but the PHS is giving all of our friends two new songs for Xmas.  I know, I know, we shouldn't have.  But it's better to give than receive, right?  So, please, don't worry about giving us any songs in return.  Seriously.  Don't.

The two new ones are ROUGH mixes from the new album.  Not EQ'd, not tweaked, not manipulated, massaged, or mixed.  So, if you don't like these songs, I'm sure this is due to the primitive state they are in.  I think even the lyrics and song structure will improve once we throw a little reverb on it.  So....dig in!  We look forward to your glowing reviews and/or awkward silences.

We love each and every one of our MySpace friends and we are just sick that we don't get to spend more time with you all.

Peace, love, and pistachio nuts,
The Port Huron Statement

For the first time ever, the PHS is cancelling 2 shows.  Many apologies to our fine friends at Local 506 and Kings.  I know they were counting on us to sell tons of beer for them.  Our guitarist Todd has been shipped off to a work related gig in Indianapolis for six weeks.

Perhaps not coincidentally, on the night T arrived in Indy THIS went down.  None of this is surprising to Todd's fans who know of his love of guns, tittie bars, and the NBA.  Hopefully it will all settle down before he returns to NC in November.

In the meantime, the remaining 75% of the PHS are gonna continue recording our new album and by god, we're gonna put some new songs on this site by Xmas.

The PHS acted like a real rock band last week and left our town.  A bold move, I know, but the public was clammoring for it.

Many thanks to Hymns.  Those kids (i can call them kids) were impressive to EVERYONE that saw them.  Please seek them out.

The Never played with us (and brought all the people) on Friday night.  Love those guys.  Brian Wilson would be proud.

Playing back in Boone was a bit surreal.  I reckon I've played 40+ shows in Boone over the last 12 years....and I've developed an appreciation for the "vibe" there.  I could expound upon that "vibe" ad naseum, given a few beers.  But suffice to say that Boone was a lot of fun....nice folks all around.

In the most exciting news of the weekend, I am happy to report that I was issued a nickname.  You may call me "Old Man Stink-Eye."  We even came up with a theme song:

(Sung to the tune of Old Man River in a deep baritone)
"Old Man Stink-Eye
He Don't Get Out Much...."

that's all we have for now.  We are working on nicknames for everyone else.  I'm pretty sure Matt is gonna be "No Beats".

Once again realizing a lifelong dream of playing for burritos, the PHS will rock out our old haunt The Black Cat in Boone, NC this Saturday night.  From 2000 to 2002, when we were but a 2-piece, Todd and I would set up our crappy PA, amps, and drum machines and rock The Black Cat every couple months.  Ah the good ol' days.

We made some good pals back in the Boone days, including some Brooklyn based NC transplants called Hymns (Pency Prep / Player Piano back then).  We couldn't be happier to be sharing the bill with them for two nights.

Tonight we play the Raleigh Music Hall with Hymns and the Never.  Should be fun.  Last time we played there it was sold out!  (we were opening for Of Montreal though.....)

Hope everyone's fantasy baseball team is doing well.  Mine's called The Aristocrats, and we're terrible.

Being relative new converts to hockey, I must say that it is quite an accomplishment that the PHS has partied with the Stanley Cup multiple times over 2 decades.  Check out the pics here (and at www.porthuronstatement.com)

In other news......we're hard at work completing our new LP "Man of the Match."  I'm running a little behind on it because I've re-written many of the lyrics to include references to Rod Brind'Amour.

We'll post some new tunes soon.
