Current mood:  frustrated
So I have this anxiety dilemma with MySpace. I love what it does for us socially as well as for our businesses but I suffer anxiety every time I have to return to MySpace. Seems confusing but it's really not. The challenge is because I know MySpace tends to suck me in, I try to avoid it. I log in like once a month to do something real quick and get sucked in to people's profiles, latest blogs and bulletins. By the time I finish leaving someone a comment, I forget what it was I came to do on MySpace that was suppose to be real quick. Oh and don't let there be a technical difficulty, then I have to sit there, refresh and make sure whatever I posted actually goes through while huffing and puffing about having no patience. Don't make me have to find a friend. I have to go through pages and pages of people because the email address or name that I use in the find friend filter doesn't match.

Then I dislike the way people don't email you information and just refer you to their MySpace page. Like someone will say, Jodine I'm performing at such and such on Thursday. So I say, oh ok where is such such located? Then they respond, It's not far, just go to my MySpace page and the flyer is posted. Oh and another one that annoys me is when you meet an artist and they say, I don't have CDs but you can go to my MySpace page and listen to my music. Nooooooo.....I don't want to go on MySpace. I have MySpace ANXIETY!

Since I've been diagnosed, I've been instructed to only check MySpace on an as need basis. My therapist told me it's okay to get lost one the site once a quarter but nothing more. I've also been told that I must refrain from looking at people funny when they tell me to go to their MySpace page for information.

I feel like I should write a blues song called, My MySpace Anxiety!

This is the letter that I read at the funeral for Ken Batie:

2/17/07

Ken,

My words will echo the words of many others.

During your stay, you were able to touch the lives & souls of many including myself. Not just musically but just by simply being the man that you were intended to be. I didn't have to know you long or go way back to feel and be moved by your genuine spirit. You always had a big picture and never made our talks about you but about we and this community; and I thank you for that.

I thank you for being so in tune with your purpose that no battle with any type of illness was able to hold you back. I thank you for being such a light that you were able to identify the lights within ourselves. I thank you for trusting me and giving me words of inspiration and motivation. I thank you for allowing me to experience the best hugs from such a beautiful person. I thank you for planning the seeds of passion, determination, hard-work & loyalty simply by walking the walk.

Ken, I've been wondering lately if we're going to continue your walk. Are we going to do what it takes by just being just as selfless, passionate, driven, strong yet humble to keep this community you helped create move forward? Will we continue to keep the flame of Ken Batie burning in our hearts?

I feel that the answer is yes. I find comfort in knowing that now that you are an ancestor and you won't let it crumble or let us drift apart. The family and friends that you touched, helped, hugged, inspired, motivate, challenged; will forever keep the vision and flame of Ken Batie alive.

And to Lisa, your husband didn't live his life in vain. He was so powerful that he created this extended family, this community so that just in case he transitioned before you did, you were taken care of. We have your back!

Love you,

Jodine

Jodine's Corner Newsletter Let's Celebrate Life!
November 2, 2006

Greetings!

Some years ago on this day I was born to a beautiful mother and fantastic father. From then to now, I have blossomed into this woman with a lot of energy, compassion, love and happiness for life. For the most part, I think I came out okay.I have my issues as we all do but my life, my reality is alright. I am blessed with some amazing family and friends. If I am a reflection of the people around me, then I am DYNOMITE!

On my birthday I want to thank you for reading this passage. For taking the mintue to not just scan this newsletter but to read my words. Thank you! I also give much praise for my family (the loud Haitians you might hear throughout Atlanta, Miami, DC, Chicago, New York and of course, Haiti) and friends. I love my friends and thank them for help shaping who I am today. You all help mold me and gave me a deeper understanding of what this life is all about. Thank you!

I also have to thank my friends for coming together and throwing me a birthday celebration at Harlem Bar tonight with DJ Larmarrous! Please come by and let me a get warm hug for my birthday. The information is below:

    Shared Inspiration by Chezon

To laugh is to risk appearing a fool.
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk rejection.
To place your dreams before the crowd is to risk ridicule.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To go forward in the face of overwhelming odds is to risk failure.
    But risks must be taken...
because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.
He may avoid suffering and sorrow,
but he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or love.
Chained by his certitudes, he is a slave.
    He has forfeited his freedom.
Only a person who takes risks is free.
