i am so excited about the upcoming food and family that i started my gravy 3 weeks ago...gravy is a serious thing in my family.  my grandmother made it completely from scratch and then she passed it down to my uncle and now i've started making it because of my food allergies.  but, it's still fierce and full of flavor.  my honey and i made a late night run to the grocery store last night and stocked up.  so many collard greens that we had to put them in the downstairs fridge.  oh yeh.  gotta represent north carolina.

the insanity of the last several months is going to screetch to a nice hault this week as our family trickles in from across the country and we all sit together thursday evening to give thanks.  we're hosting this year!  football, fake fireplace, ping-pong in the garage, maybe even christmas carols around the piano (which i WILL video and post if it happens)

then, friday, after everyone sleeps half the day, we'll load our gear up and head down to the taproom for a show!  it's gonna be a blast.  please come if you live in nashville or are going to be in town.  come see the 10 pounds i will gain this week!

i'm thankful for you!

sarah

somehow, i always seem to have major life things i'm trying to figure out.  today was clarification day.  i am a planner, and now i have more plans.  i like it.  you'd never know by the disaster that is my office, but i like things to be in order.  at least big life things.  today i turned a corner on moving forward with some  things.  isn't that what mondays are for?  that and monday night football.

i also used coconut oil for sauteeing for the first time tonight, which was heavenly.  lemon coconut chicken over steamed bok choy.  trying another suggestion from last week's red wine twitter poll.  tonight is leese fitch cab from cali.  it's nice!  the coolest thing about it is that it has a "zork" instead of a cork.

in august, i retreated to a trailer in florida and wrote a bunch of songs.  this one came out like a screaming baby, needing to be heard...really just by me, but i hope by you too.  :) one day i hope to put it on my next record   LISTEN

it's not as bad as it sounds...it's actually funny.  i was just in the local healthfood store, and as i was passing by the meat section, i saw a little girl, jumping up and down, grinning and clapping, saying to her mother in delight: "Yay! Dead chickens!  Yay!"  in that moment, i chuckled to myself at how funny that sounded, but it got me to thinking about how something that could so easily be scarey or gross, was fun and happy to this little girl.  i was inspired.  by dead chickens.  i've been to meeting after meeting this week, wedged between co-writing appointments and business dinners.  emails  and voicemails aren't returned and i haven't had a chance to go to the gym.  i find myself daydreaming about actually having a minute to wash the dishes in the sink and how fun that would be to feel in order.  my guilt over not being able to do even more in the hours i have in the days seems to have overpowered me lately.  but, what if i turn it around and decide i'm going to love it, be grateful, and jump up and down and clap at it.  i think i will.  oh, and is it ironic that after i saw that little girl, i ate chicken curry without a second thought?

hey folks,

if you are a napster user, or are considering becoming one, they just released an exclusive track of mine this week.  it's not available anywhere else and is called "One Ray of Shine."  i wrote it with the wonderful viktor krauss, and he plays bass on the track, along with lex price and matt chamberlain.  go get it here

i had a blast at the belcourt the other night.  thanks to all of you who came and said hi at the merch table - i enjoyed meeting so many new folks in a town that i've lived in for almost 12 years.  sometimes i feel like i know every single person here, and then i have a night like that where i meet a whole new bunch!

stay tuned for new concert dates...we are trickling them out a couple at a time.  but, in the meantime, if you live in nashville, mark your calendars for nov. 27, the day after turkey day...the duo you saw at the belcourt will play a FREE show at 12 south taproom!!  SO FUN!... we can't wait.

time to pack up and head to the office where i'm writing with one of my favs stephanie chapman.!!

love,
sarah

last night at a party, my friend said to me that she associates me with fall.  my birthday is in april, so why is this?  well, for one, i'm obsessed with pumpkins.  i love scarves.  the smell of cinnamon and cloves instantly brightens my mood, and i lay awake at night dreaming up new soup recipes.  ah yes, fall is upon us.

i'm excited about a show coming up in a couple of days, opening for the fab sara watkins.  she has a new solo album out, produced by john paul jones, and her band is rockin.  we'll be at the belcourt theater in nashville on tuesday.  travis on upright bass and harmonies!

writing with other writers and artists lately has been wonderful.  ideas are just meshing.  i love it when that happens.

today's soup?  some kind of sweet potato, if i can tear myself off the computer!

love,
sarah

so you awesome fans, you...you made it possible to win at the nashville music awards for americana album of the year!  thank you!!!  now go to http://www.sarahsiskind.com and get your free EP download!  even if you didn't vote, it's yours....

sheesh...where to begin...just got off tour with TOT and it was amazing, exhausting, challenging, loving, thrilling - i was sick from beginning to end, spent a day in the hospital with 104 temp and bronchitis.  flew to austin in the middle of the tour to do ACL fest, which rocked my face off.  got to see john legend and them crooked vultures.

i had intentions of vlogging as often as i could on tour - i tried several times, but it wouldn't upload, so know that it's the thought that counted.  i wanted to show you my tiny little dark bunk on the bus...but, alas.  i guess it was just for me to experience. :)

if you are in nashville, i play tonight with my band at 10:30 at the basement as part of NBN!  then, this wednesday, i reunite with julie lee and we play a duo show at the station inn with special guests.  so fun.

my head is spinning, my heart is radiating.  i am so grateful to be able to share music and stories with you.  new tunes are starting to flow out, so stay tuned for that!  in the meantime, enjoy the free EP and the fall air.

love!
sarah

i blogged last week, and it wouldn't post...so i'm back to try again.

wow...where to begin?  i'm on the road with 10 out of tenn, an amazing group of ten artists from nashville.  there are 12 of us on a tour bus, including the drummer and tour manager.  they have all been patient with me as after my first show back with them after missing 3 shows, i came down with a wicked sinus/ear/throat infection.  this doesn't mix with bus life, or much else.  so, i've been the sickly one curled up in my bunk...but have still loved rocking out at the shows.  i'm full of antibiotics now and feeling better, but my cough is still echoing through the bunks at night. :-/  my oh my...what timing!!

however, all that aside, it's a real treat to be going to all these cool cities with these cool folks.  jedd hughes shreds my face off every night on 'dress me up.'  mikky ekko brings me to tears every night with his song 'i love you'.  and trent dabbs, i discovered last night in a disco bar, is a top notch dancer!  (check out video about - sorry it's so dark!) madi, your perfect pitch!  kyle, your infectious hooks!  ashley, your honey dripping vocals!  joy, your smile and gorgeous piping lungs! k.s. - where do i start? geez. andrew, your hair hat and songs that won't get out of my head!  i love you guys.

sitting in a starbucks in richmond now about to head back to the bus and find something i've heard of that sometimes exists...a shower?

love,
sarah

i just got home from my AMA show at the basement and man, do i feel lucky...to get to play my tunes with such a shredding band.  i always loved rock music, and folk, and celtic, and traditional country, and fusion, and jazz...but to just shred on some rock makes the blood pump through me!!

i'm waking up super early tomorrow (within hours, really) to go to knoxville to do the radio show 'blue plate special.'  matt morelock makes it really fun...then i'll hopefull nap, and then it's the first TOT show - which i CAN'T wait for...i don't know that i've ever been this excited for a tour.  this group of artists is magical.  everyone is so nice and funny and silly.  look for lots of video from this tour.  i will try and vlog as often as possible...from the bus, from the venues.  check this video out of us all being goofy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETBhf-V4FpY

we will be touring all over the east coast and more.  check it out!!  http//www.10outoftenn.com

more soon!

sarah

i told someone today that the colorado sky is like tennessee sky lying on your back looking up.  i just finished 2 days of driving from nashville to denver.  why drive, you ask?  1) we have a lot of gear 2) it will save us from renting a car 3) i have eustachian tube disorder (ears) and don't fly well...um, and because i like to not have to pack lightly :)

anyway, by the grace of priceline.com, i am in a 3 star hotel in denver for dirt cheap...just had a cobb salad and cheap cabernet that's actually delightful.  had a quick workout before dinner and plan to hit the hot tub after i digest.

the tour this week will be like no other.  i will be with my dearest best friend husband, who also happens to be a sick-ass bass player and singer http://www.travisbook.net
he was raised in CO so we have a built-in audience just salivating to see him live...lucky me! :)

the tour ends at my favorite festival in pagosa springs, co, where the likes of tim o'brien, darrell scott, the greencards, and more are playing.  PLUS, my uncle is flying in from LA for it which tickles me pink.

long drives are one of my sacred times to listen to music.  today, i shuffled between 3 jane siberry albums that i know by heart but every time i hear them, they are like brand new solid gold.  her melodies, her bravery and her personilty translated into song just kills me.  i love her!

i am trying to do a daily vlog...today's vlog will not upload for the life of it...so i might do another one, just reall short and sweet.  can't wait to share more of this tour with y'all.

love,
sarah
