ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | STACY CLARKArtist Spotlight | Stacy Clark | photo: T. Long
More and more bands start popping up in our local music scene, there is definitely a need for more female-fronted bands. This leading lady needs no introduction. She’s one of Orange County’s best female artists. Stacy Clark, who moved from New York to Newport Beach several years ago, creates electro pop/rock ballads that can make guys and gals of any age want to sing along. In fact, her music has been a hit in Canada. Stacy’s new song “Touch & Go” was placed in Sprint’s Canadian Palm Pre commercial just a few months ago. Now, we are anticipating her new album “Connect The Dots,” which will be released early next year.  Click here to read more »

PETA 2 STACY CLARK INTERVIEW

Stacy Clark Interview! December 11, 2009

Don't you love random coincidences? I discovered Stacy Clark through a friend of mine who met her at a guitar store when she first moved out to Southern California from Buffalo, NY. My friend told me, "Dude, I met this amazing musician today" and I didn't think too much of it. Soon after I listened to her song, "Unusual", my mind was blown! It was a great mix of Meg & Dia and Death Cab For Cutie with an electronic twist. Her music is all over shows like The HillsOne Tree Hill and the strangest, Palm-Pre commercial so get into her before you get left behind. What's even cooler is that she hates fur and loves adopting animals which makes us here at peta2 even more stoked.

1. Do you own any companion animals?
Yes, Oliver Twist (he is a silky terrier rescue) and Koko Chanel (lappsa-apso). They are my best friends and constantly show me love. I think we can learn a lot from animals. Their love and affection brings joy to my life. Their ability to always be happy makes me in turn, more happy.

2. How did you appear on the cover of Pet Home?
Three years ago I performed at National Dog Day's "Fidopalooza" Concert in Malibu. National Dog Day celebrates the love of dogs and helps to promote public awareness of abandoned and abused dogs, annually on August 26th. Through this event, I became close friends with Colleen Paige, the founder of the day, who is also the author of The Good Behavior Book for Dogs. The SPCA was there among a large variety of other animal rescuers trying to find homes for their dogs and the minute I saw Oliver I fell in love and adopted him on the spot. Colleen sent me home with a copy of her book to get us started off on the "right paw". When I brought him home, he seemed very cuddly, however I could tell something was not right. I immediately took him to the Pet ER as it was a holiday. He was sick from a bad neutering job. He had an infection and a fever. After staying overnight, I brought him to the vet for a follow-up and they discovered he had pneumonia. The left side of his lungs were filled with fluid so they had to keep him for another few nights. Although financially it was straining, I was so glad that I rescued him when I did or he would not have made it. Colleen respected me for that rather than getting another dog or bringing him back. She really supports my music and my love of animals and aside from wanting to promote all I am doing, she also wanted to show Pet Home Magazine's readers that no matter how busy you are, you can be successful at loving and rescuing an animal.

3. Every year there are over 8 million animals that enter shelters and half of them end up being euthanized simply due to a lack of good homes. How do you feel about animal adoption and what would you say to a person thinking about buying from a breeder or pet store?
It breaks my heart how many animals do not find a home in time. I support animal adoption 100%. I understand and acknowledge that each person's pet situation is different. Some people fear getting an animal with "issues". However, if you don't have a pet and want one, then why not adopt? Why not save a pet's life? There are so many different types of breeds that can fit the companion you're looking for. When you rescue an animal and show them love, they love you right back. There is a bond that is truly unique and different than buying from a breeder or pet store.

4. I understand you feel very passionately about the Canadian Seal Slaughter and even bought one of our "Save The Seals" shirts . Tell us why these annual killing sprees bother you?
This form of cruelty is simply inhumane and a terrible way for people to earn a "living". I understand that every country has economic struggles, but to make money by torturing helpless baby seals is terrible. Maybe it's time to relocate and find another job? How sick and twisted of a person you must be to wake up every morning just to torture a helpless animal. If we are not a voice for the seals, who will be?

5. What are your feelings about the many people who still wear fur even though it's been shown that animals are often skinned alive on fur farms?
I think it's terrible. There are enough resources to create fashion without torturing animals. I think people who wear fur for fashion or as a status symbol just show their lack of compassion, ignorance and creativity as an individual.

6. What advice would you give to someone trying to be fur-free?
Check out fashion alternatives, like fabrics and resources that are animal cruelty-free. There are some really great green/animal friendly lines out there from every price point such as Zoe and Zach, Toms and Stella McCartney.

7. What do you have coming up that we can be looking forward to?
My new album, Connect the Dots, will be coming out in Spring 2010, along with more touring, cool new art, and music videos. I am really excited to get this new album out into the world.
