Taken from an interview on how we started

"there was a bit of a mods and greebo thing goin on in our school, you eitha wore hoodies n listened to metal shite, or grew ya hair, got a parker and listened to oasis and the jam, there wasnt much middle ground so we chose the latter. So it was by fluke that we started listening to that sorta music really, i went out and bought 'morning glory' and 'beat surrender' and listened to 'em non stop for a coupla weeks, then decided i wanted a guitar for christmas"

"to be honest it just sat in me room for a year or so, i could play 'wonderwall' n stuff like that but that comes as standard really, i didnt start writng my own songs or think about startin a band 'til i heard 'the libertines', id known lofty for years, he'd bein pissing about on the drums since school but that was about it really. Then he got a job working as a joiner on a rehearsal room / drumming studio, and from a conversation in gatsbys in castle we decided go down for a jam. It became a regular thing, and we had a few of our own songs we thought were decent so we decided find a lead guitarist. None of our mates could really play so we put an advert in Bridge Street music, that was when me met liam, from the first ten minutes of his first practise we new he was the guitarist we needed."

"We practised for a few month then got a bass guitarist in from another music shop advert (ant), he was a fair bit older than us but he new his stuff so we got him on side for a while. We played 1 gig with this line - up under the name 'the suspects', it was a battle of the bands at the bell n bear in shelton (mid 06), i was only 17 n ended up getting bladdered 'cos i was that nervous, the gig was a shambles but it was as we expected, Ant then left the band, shortly followed by Liam, but me and lofty continued rehearsing and auditioned a few lead guitarists, non of which were very good. "

"Ant got back in touch with us a few months later, he had half a band on the go and so did we, so we joined forces for a while. We werent geting much done so me and Lofty left  to pursue our own project. Early 07 and following a conversation with liam he was back on board and 'the rough charm' was born, we had stacks of material and quickly got back into rehearsing, we played a few small gigs with no bassist, then by chance really i saw nixon on myspace, we were in school together and i knew he played bass so he pretty much joined straight away, n thats how it all started really, weve pretty much gone from strength to strength since then, now alls weve got do is wait n see how it all ends up . . . . . . "
