A shout out to Neale for creating this piece of art in my bar.

Unfortunately only short lived as it'll go with the refurbishment... but cool stuff never the less!

cheers, Ferdie

I'm looking to build up a team of energetic and passionate people around me who get what Barrio North is about.

There are several positions available: from part-time to full-time, day shifts to evening shifts, bar tenders to bar managers, event management to marketing & PR.

DJs, musicians and artists are also welcome to drop me a line with relevant proposals.

Please send your CV and a pic of yourself together with a short covering letter stating the kinda role you're looking for, how you will contribute towards making the bar a great one and your salary expectations.

In return, I'll send you a full job description together with details on employee benefits.

Cheers

Ferdie

May 10th 2007... that was the day my I.T. career died and I was handed the keys to my bar!

You may already know it: The Warwick, 45 Essex Road, Islington N1 2SF ( www.thewarwickbar.com ) - it's literally a minute down from Islington Green opposite the machine that is The Old Queen's Head.

I've been running the bar just as Sarah and Dan (the previous owners) have been.  It's a great little bar, with a nice vibe and a cool and loyal crowd.  I've kept the same staff too and fortunately they're a great bunch.  I couldn't have asked for more and what a good base to build upon!

It's a long narrow bar, which could be seen as an awkward space, but just look to Barcelona, Lisbon, New York, etc. for great bars that work in this kind of space.  The layout just needs a bit of a shuffle and it's there.

Hey there,

Thanks for stopping by and checking out Barrio North's MySpace blog!

In my first entry, I thought I'd share with you where I'm coming from, where I'm at and what you can expect to find in this blog as I move from ideas born out of years of day dreaming to realising Barrio North in London's bar scene.

After getting through Uni, I got caught up in the tech boom and eked out a career in I.T. working for large faceless corporations.  Over the years I grew to hate my job, hate working for the boss man and started looking for an exit.  It had to be my own thing and it had to incorporate all the things I'm passionate about in this world.  Music, food, the odd drink, travel and immersing myself in different cultures.  It had to be my own bar naturally!

The concept came pretty easily.  I've been lucky enough to travel and party it up in many great cities.  I drew from these experiences and looked for something that tied all these places together.  I love the neighbourhood community vibe, I love the soul and spirit of these places and how music, art, food & drink all combine so uniquely and effortlessly.  Why can't I have some of that in London?

Well here I am, I've got my bar and I'm ready to apply some paint to the canvas!

I'll be adding to this blog along my journey and I'd welcome comments, opinions and ideas from anyone.  I'm all about collaboration and ultimately the bar is nothing without the people.
