We have released the 4 songs off our upcoming split CD "Low Country" with Blacktusk.  On our Myspace page and our website ASGNATION.COM, you can downmload mp3 versions of the songs through SNOCAP.

It's safe and you are buying the music directly from us, which helps us out. The audio quality of the songs will also sound better once you have downloaded them onto your computer.

If you are not already registered with Snocap, it will take a few minutes but you can then download the songs directly into your itunes or desktop.  The physical release of the record in CD and Vinyl is soon to follow!!!!

This past March, we (ASG) recorded 4 new songs for a 10' split with sludge metal band Blacktusk from Savannah, GA.  The Blacktusk boys are good friends of ours, so we decided to combine 4 tracks a piece in order to create one album/split/record etc...whatever you want to call it.  We recorded the songs live at the Jam Room in Columbia SC, under the supervision of producer Phillip Cope (Kylesa, Baroness, Withered etc...).  The idea was to keep the songs raw, attempting to capture a live feel, including whatever mistakes, fuck ups, and human tendencies in the recording.  The end result was just that- as you will hear.  Blacktusk and ASG have titled the split "Low Country", and it will be released on Hyperrealist Records in June of 2009.  The artwork will be done by John Baizley of Baroness fame, and will be released on vinyl, compact disc, and digital formats.  ASG will be on tour all summer long in support of the new songs, so please check out Blacktusk and ASG as they are sure to hit your town in the hot  summer of 2009!

ASG will be recording February 21-26 with Phillip Cope of Kylesa at the Jam Room in Columbia SC.  We plan on recording 3 or 4 songs to be a part of a 10 inch split vinyl (and cd) with Blacktusk of Savannah GA.  Phillip has recorded Kylesa, Baroness, Blacktusk, and Unpersons to name a few.  John Baizley of Baroness is on board to do the artwork so it should be visually stimulating to say the least.  It will be released on Hyperrealist Record late spring or early summer, whichever comes first:).

WIN US OVER

by Kevin Sellers

Was I missed? Your dear Solitary has been neglecting his duties, and his punishment, although not severe, was just. Now after the wounds have healed, I finally return to give you, dearest readers, more of what you need and what you can live without. But I digress, we're here to talk about ASG (short for Amplified Self Gratification) and their new album of whiskey soaked southern stoner metal, "Win Us Over."

The record dropped on my birthday (Jan. 22), and it marks one of the first albums I've heard in the new year. Let me say that it's been a pleasing introduction to a new year of music. The boys in ASG have been together for about 5 years now, and have a cohesive musical mindset working in their corner due to the experience and road work. Their songs are bombastic, epically written with the almighty riff the centerpiece to just about all of their songs. Deftly mixing some punk angst and sludge into the mix, ASG leave little room in their sound for screwing around.

The first half of the disc is the more choice section, featuring four of my favorite tracks back to back to back to back. "Right Death Before" is a punchy mid-paced opener, utilizing sharp harmonics and a superb, melodic bridge and chorus to build sweet tension. Vocalist Jason Shi (who also represents 1/2 of the band's guitarists) has a hell of a voice, perfectly crafted for this style of melody-driven stoner metal. "Dream Song", 2, is hands down the best song present, full of balls and extreme energy.

I can't find much fault in "Win Us Over", not much at all. When they drift off into softer, acoustic-driven ballads, their quality drops just a touch. It's not that they don't deserve credit for trying; this album definitely needed the variety in songwriting. They'll just have to keep working on their low-tempo material. They've got the heavy down, and they bring it with enough passion and creativity to leave you wanting more and more. Fans of the Sabbath, Kyuss, and any stoner/sludge/southern metal deserves to hear this solid album.

ASG - Win Us Over

Amplification of Self-Gratification or ASG is back with album number four of their Southern-fried riff-driven rock and – of course – it's once more a treat. I'm a fan of these surfer dudes because A. you can't classify them under metal, stoner, psychedelic or whatever… they're a bit of everything and B. they're in the habit of writing killer riffs and then throwing catchy choruses over 'em. And that's pretty much all I need to have a good time!

Things are once again no different on "Win Us Over". Take a little Queens Of The Stone Age and a lot of CKY and you're on the right track. This time around they added a little bit of Mastodon (check out "Dream Song") as well but overall these guys are still very radio-friendly. Which makes me wonder why they aren't more well-known… might it be that they are somewhat caught in the skate/surf scene? Whatever the reason, it's a damn shame because "Win Us Over" is definitely worth a listen along with their previous albums.
Score: 7.5 out of 10
